  1. What anyone who wasn't watching missed: - Mejia still needs some work. He's erratic and doesn't seem to miss enough bats. The Braves fouled balls off until they got a good one and then they smacked it. - Thole got smoked in the head by a foul ball sitting in the dugout. Seemed to be OK - The few balls we did hit hard off of Medlen were at'em balls. He didn't totally dominate like it looked like the hitters had no chance, but he was still good. - Chipper's father looks ridiculously like Chipper. Or, I guess, the other way around is more accurate, hence the name Chipper.
  2. O's hang on but Toronto blows their lead all to hell and the AL East remains tied. O's then hung around on the field after their game ended as they and their fans watched as the scoreboard played the final inning of the Angels/Rangers game. Baltimore would have clinched some kind of playoff slot had Texas won but, while they were watching, LAA scored twice w/2 out in the 9th to win.
  3. Doubles in a Season 1) Bernard Gilkey - 44 in 1996 T2) David Wright - 42 in 2008 T2) David Wright - 42 in 2007 T2) David Wright - 42 in 2005 T5) Edgardo Alfonso - 41 in 1999 T5) Howard Johnson - 41 in 1989 T7) Edgardo Alfonso - 40 in 2000 T7) David Wright - 40 in 2006 T7) Carlos Beltran - 40 in 2008 T7) Gregg Jefferies - 40 in 1990 T7) Daniel Murphy - 40 in 2012
  4. - Mejia vs Medlen - Wright sitting out after last night when he got on (literally) via a base on balls in his last AB - Murphy with a one-out double in the 1st - his 40th - Davis with a two-out walk - Hairston fails to bring them in
  5. Dodgers just 2 back of StL now that the Cards have lost two straight to the Nats including last night in 10 after going through all the trouble of tying it up in the 9th Milwaukee technically still alive for a tie for WC #2 sitting 2 & 4 games behind LAD & StL All three contenders finish out at home Cards: 1 more with Washington, then the Reds for 3 Dodgers: 1 more with Rox, then host (who else?) the Giants for 3. No gimmes for them there. Brewers: Today with Houston and then 3 with the Padres
  6. Unlike previous years when there was really no difference between winning the division and getting in via the WC, now if there's a tie for Div winner/WC there [u:eapewhff]WILL[/u:eapewhff] be a tie-breaking play-off game to determine which is which based on the idea that the advantage of being the winner is so pronounced. There will NOT be play an extra game if it's merely to determine home field among the two WC teams.
  7. Orioles blew an early lead in that one but then pushed across the lead run again. Oakland also wins so are 1 game back of the two-team East tie-up Tampa also wins and sits 4 in back of Yanx/Balt and 3 behind Oakland for WC #2 - but they face Baltimore Mon-Wed so we're all going to be rooting against them anyway. Anaheim at Texas rained out. Two games tomorrow I presume. Detroit wins - ChiSox lose. 2 game Tiger lead again

  9. I suspect the cultural difference does have something to do with it, as does the idea that, by getting out of that contract, Nishioka is free to negotiate a new deal either here or in Japan (most likely in Japan) and possibly make up a decent chunk, like maybe half, of the money he's passing up. A similar move by Bay and he'd be lucky to make back 5% of what is now guaranteed.
  10. That Young, Jeter & Helton were mentioned often this week as the only other players aside from Wright to hold their team's hit record and still be active certainly made it a bit easier.
  11. Niese - 4.0 Duda - 4.0 Acosta - 0.2 Hampson - 0.3 Parnell - 0.5 Murphy - 0.7 Davis - 0.3
  12. Dickey - 3.9 Parnell - 0.5 Wright - 2.5 Davis - 1.2 Murphy - 1.2 Hairston - 0.7
  13. Hefner - 3.8 Familia - 0.8 Tejada - 1.5 Murphy - 1.0 Wright - 0.9 Hairston - 0.9 Torres - 1.1
  14. Finally got on the plus side I see. Friday: East - Yanx win, O's win, Rays lose Yanx still with one game lead over Bal'mer. Rays, who had won 8 straight coming into tonight, are now virtually dead And I don't want to say the Blue Jays suck or anything, but against the Yanx tonight they had 3 doubles, 2 singles, plus a walk in the first two innings alone ... and yet found a way not to score. Central - Sox win, Tigers lose Tigers down to one-game lead
  15. [bigpurple:2vv4auqe]YES[/bigpurple:2vv4auqe]
  16. Freeman not feeling unfettered and alive in that AB
  17. Finally and officially dead
  18. SHIT, Rusty could have scored from 1st had that ball not cleared the fence on a hop - and I'm talking about Rusty TODAY!!!

They seemed to adjust pretty well when Rauch was out there. The last two times Rauch was out there following Dickey there were very quick adjustments. Balls were getting adjusted over the fence quite easily in fact.
  20. Booooo pinch-hitter

And, really, did Hudson think Ike was going to be going on the pitch or something? He was just throwing to 1st and doing that whole fake-3rd-go-1st thing as a stall and as a way not to pitch to Duda ... except he IW'd Ike just to get to Duda which is why I say ... Fuckin' serves ya right!
  22. Two outs in Pittsburgh ...

  24. Bloops tend to get you robbed a lot (and we tend to hit a lot of bloops) although Alvarez did rob some hot shots at 3B the other day at CitiField
