Shit, for a guy who pitches his home games in Queens you figure he'd be a lot higher up on that list. And for all the talk about Kimbrel, there's a question as to whether he's even the best reliever in baseball this season. Yeah it's the other league so it wouldn't affect the NL CY race, but Tampa's Fernando Rodney as a considerably better ERA, more innings pitched, more saves, and a slightly lower walk rate. Kimbrel has more Ks and the better WHiP IPSavesERAKBBWHiPKimbrel61.2421.02113140.65Rodney74.1490.6176150.78 It all makes it a little tougher to refer to Kimbrel's year as an "historic" season for a reliever when it's being more or less matched concurrently.

Not to mention that reverse-spin pick-off move to 2nd he does on occasion. Heck, that's probably how he tore it!
  3. Oakland downs Texas and they're all tied up out west. One game for Div/WC - 3:35 this afternoon Rangers have been in 1st place every day since day 4 of the season Oakland was 13 out on June 30
  4. Cards lose ... but so do the Dodgers. So it's Cardinals at Atlanta on Friday for the WC play-in game. Bat-Time and Bat-Channel still TBD AFAIK

  6. Eh, no biggie. Tonight's result will just make tomorrow's reversal and the need for a one-game play-in to see who goes to the one-game play-in that much more satisfying.
  7. You can't get 2-strikes up on Francisco's Cervelli's 1st ML AB of the season ... and then walk him ... and then walk the next guy ... and then give up a game winning P.O.S. single to Ibanez. All of it, of course, after two were out and nobody on. Yeah, this season is Valentine's fault.
  8. Yanx go quietly in the 10th Derek Lowe on for the 11th
  9. I don't like the smell of this inning: McHugh vs Reyes - Stanton - Lee
  10. Gwreck wrote: 3rd pitcher this inning. We better win this one soon or Terry's going to have to start giving relief innings to Niese or Harvey Or he gets to invoke the rule where, if the game goes past midnight, Dickey becomes re-available again.
  11. The difference with this game being played in October? The Yanx have used four relievers so far - and still have [u:34n4ldh1]eight[/u:34n4ldh1] left.

I still might hit for Thole there. Wow! We cooked our bench in September. I was just playing off of GWreck's post ... and off of Thole's complete incompetence as a major league hitter.

  14. James Shields for the Rays: CG 2-hitter, 0 BB, [u:18utdrua]15Ks[/u:18utdrua] ... and the loss
  15. Baltimore has won (1-0) Yanx are losing (2-1 in the 8th) No matter the outcome in the Bronx tonight, the AL East is going to come down to game 162 on Wednesday Both will be night games.
  16. Thick-legged Heath hearing it from the hometown crowd.
  17. That time Timmy decides to hold the runner?!?
  18. Ummmm, a hit would be nice.

  20. MLB on Tuesday announced an eight-year national media rights agreements with FOX and TBS, and combined with the recently announced ESPN deal, the three contracts will deliver a combined $12.4 billion -- more than a 100-percent increase in annual rights fees to MLB over the current arrangements. The long-predicted death of baseball continues I see. Contracts run through 2021. This is in addition to the separate and recently inked deal with ESPN Full story
  21. metirish wrote: The point Ron was making more strongly though was if Cabrera wins the Triple Crown then he is clearly in his opinion the overwhelming choice for MVP..... And, on that, I disagree. Or at least I disagree with the notion that he should be the MVP solely because of that reason. I'm not dismissing pro-Cabrera arguments, just the ones which lock into that particular 'If/Then' inevitability.
  22. No, but I've heard arguments against Trout based on the idea that, because he's teamed with Pujols, he can't be most valuable because he's not "The Man" on his own team. As Vic implies with his most recent post here: some voters and pundits seem to allow themselves to be twisted into knots digging for the most convoluted definition of MVP rather than accepting the simplest and almost certainly original intent.
  23. Agreed that it's a great 'worst year'. That doesn't mean we should base this year's MVP vote on the idea that the totality of his career makes him "more feared" than his younger teammate and therefore treat it as a mark against Trout. It's not as bad as those who argued for Jeter winning the MVP a few years back (2009 I think) as some sort of cumulative achievement award* even while admitting that he wasn't the best that season, but it's still not sound logic. * Let's save those for dying actors, OK?
  24. "Most feared"? Probably not. But he's had a better year than the 'more feared' Pujols and that's what we're supposed to be deciding here.
  25. They both got four hits last night.
