  1. With the Mets now guaranteed--by virtue of Bobby Parnell pitching in one game this season, blowing the save, and now being out for the season with elbow surgery--to have their fourth saves leader in the last four seasons: 2011 - Francisco Rodriguez 2012 - Frank Francisco 2013 - Bobby Parnell 2014 - ??? the only question remains as to WHO that leader will be. So who do you THINK (not necessarily hope, although those two can certainly be the same) will lead the team in saves by the time we put this 2014 regular season to bed? (we'll consider our post-season closer at a later date)
  2. Statistically it's a virtual toss-up KF = 19 G; 17 IP; 18 H; 6 BB; 10 K; 3.18 ERA; 1.41 WHiP JV = 15 G; 15.1 IP; 14 H; 7 BB; 19 K; 4.11 ERA; 1.37 WHiP I think I said in some thread somewhere that Valverde seemed to have lost any semblance of swing-and-miss stuff, but those K-rates say otherwise. Also the Pitches throw/batter are about the same for each: KF = 275 pitches to 71 batters faced (3.87 per) JV = 257/67 (3.84)
  3. So if deGrom is already up then obviously another move is necessary to get Montero here by Wednesday's game. I suppose it could just be deGrom right back again but maybe something more is in the offing. If deGrom is up for good (however long "good" is) the logical departee is one from the fabulous duo of Farnsworth & Valverde. I'd vote Valverde but I don't know that there's a huge difference either way. I hope they stocked up on lower-case d's for their unis - although with an already crowded outfield it doesn't look like den Dekker is getting back here anytime soon.
  4. Gee - 2.5 Torres - 0.7 Wright - 2.5 Murphy - 1.2 Granderson - 1.0 Campbell - 0.7 Lagares - 0.4
  5. Didn't even realize at first that that was Wright on the turn at 2nd
  6. And you guys were worried ...
  7. 3-run saves are blown far less often than 2-run saves. Just sayin'

Not sure he had that many all year prior to yesterday. he did. he was trending near the the top of the "hard hit leaderboard" that Mark Simon was tabulating for most of April. I remember far too much air under far too many Ruben Tejada outs. And maybe that study gave him credit for 'hard hit' if the ball winds up in deep or semi-deep OF but there no way can he be an effective player getting under the ball. Either way, EVERYTHING he's hit since yesterday has been hard, even his outs.

  13. Definitely want to see Mejia return for bottom 8 at least.

  15. I've said this before, but if the Yanx are going to do this 7th inning dog and pony show every game and insist on televising it every game that time should come out of their commercial time. These games are long enough without turning a two minute between-innings break into a four minute break just because the now dead owner wanted to prove he invented patriotism.

It's been common knowledge for some time. OF COURSE the Wilpons want to keep control! Do you know anyone who buys something and declares that he hopes to lose it in a hostile takeover or by being unable to make the bills? But declaring the family heirloom line to be distasteful because it's "a gaudy thing to say" isn't accurate because that line wasn't Fred's it was the writer's.
  19. That last hit might have been the first time missing Lagares out in CF He either catches that or at least doesn't play it into a triple

  21. That could be the first HR in the Bronx by someone wearing a #3 New York uniform since Ruth retired! btw, loving that 3-0 swing
  22. Apparently medium fly balls count as runs in American League parks. I really need to better familiarize myself with their rules.
  23. Met bats have their ground balls working real well tonight.
  24. Jose Fernandez to the 15-Day DL "right elbow sprain"
  25. Especially since, unless the scoring you're doing ends in a HR, many innings in which you score one or more runs ends with scattered LOBsters in the pot. The problem with this past series, as noted elsewhere, was the high LOBs coupled with the low RCPs (runners crossing plate).
