  1. Well, situations like this is the reason why we got Abreu
  2. Edgy MD wrote: What kind of strike zone is this?! Maybe that's secretly Margo Timmons back there. BHRFZFmEq9o
  3. HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS A STRIKE!?!?!!?!!
  4. Edgy MD wrote: Familia pitching like a bullpen ace. Yeah, but now he's out of the game after one batter and we have no LHPs remaining to face Rollins, Utley, Howard, Brown, so we have to tackle 8th & 9th innings of a tie game already into the 3rd level of relievers -- all because we decided that Gee had to come out after, what?, 80 pitches.
  5. Again with the early pull of Gee. Sooner or later these guys are going to have to have their training wheels removed.

  7. And we're getting an Eric Campbell sighting as the Phisl go to the LHP Somewhere, somebody has got to make an opposing pitcher pay for putting runners on.
  8. I had temporarily forgotten the part about how the Phils have traditionally hit Gee.
  9. Q, btw, has cleared waivers and will report to Las Vegas
  10. Last minute decision rules that Duda is well enough to start. Other than that, everything is the same for both teams. Juan Lagares, cf Daniel Murphy, 2b David Wright, 3b Curtis Granderson, rf Chris Young, lf [crossout:173bvddt]Campbell[/crossout:173bvddt] Duda, 1b Wilmer Flores, ss Travis dArnaud, c Dillon Gee, rhp Ben Revere, cf Jimmy Rollins, ss Chase Utley, 2b Ryan Howard, 1b Marlon Byrd, rf Domonic Brown, lf Carlos Ruiz, c Cody Asche, 3b Kyle Kendrick, rho
  11. The Philadelphia Phillies snapped out of their funk on Friday ... No they didn't, they merely sucked less than the Mets did. Duda "unlikely to play" again on Saturday, so either Campbell gets thrown right into the fire or maybe we get an EYJ/Muffy side of the infield for one night. I don't know that I'm all jazzed up over the idea of the Mets staging a Nolan Ryan bobble-head day.
  12. ... you just can't! -- San Diego was dead last in all of MLB in offense averaging barely 2.5 R/G (that's bordering on like all-time suck) Miami's Jose Fernandez went into last night allowing a total of 13 runs over 7 starts (1.74 ERA) So naturally the Pads smacked him around for 6 runs in 5+ innings all via 2 Jedd Gyorko HRs (2R + GS). Gyorko was hitting .146 going into last night's game. -- The lowly Cubs were not only down 2-1 to the Braves in Atlanta last night but were getting 1-hit in the process. But that didn't stop them from tying it up against Craig Kimbrel in the 9th. So in the bottom 10th after Heyward leads off w/a walk and steals 2nd, the Cubs elect to walk Justin Upton to get to Freddie Freeman. We now bring in Garrett Morris to comment for the hearing impaired listeners out there: THE CUBS OPTED TO WALK SOMEONE WITH THE WINNING RUN ON 2nd BASE IN ORDER TO PITCH TO FREDDIE FREEMAN Freddie predictably hit the first pitch he saw into CF for the game winner. -- Good thing that Yu Darvish no-no was broken up by David Ortiz w/2 outs in the 9th because it would have been bullshit otherwise. An untouched pop fly (also by Papi) was ruled an E-9 in the 7th inning when the 2B & RF took too much for granted and got their signals crossed. Making matters worse was that Texas's 2B was rookie call-up Rougned Odor* playing in just his 2nd ML game. Welcome to the major leagues kid, you just helped blow your pitcher's no-hitter. That's now two no-hitters that Darvish has lost with 2 outs in the 9th. * No, that's not misspelled. The 20 y/o Venezuelan apparently pronounces it along the lines of ROOG-NED OH-DOOR
  13. Wright - 1.5 Murphy - 1.0 Flores - 0.5 Granderson - 1.5 d'Arnaud - 0.5 Matsuzaka - 0.5 Familia - 0.8 Farnsworth - 0.5 Valverde - 0.5 Rice - 0.3 Mejia - 1.0
  14. Eric Campbell -- DOB: 4/9/87 (27), Norwich Connecticut Drafted 8th Round 2008* by the Mets out of Boston College 6' 3" / 205; R/R In the minors has played, in order of frequency, 1B, 3B, LF, RF, 2B, SS (twice), and has even pitched (once). Spent 2-1/2 seasons in AA Binghamton: 1,136 PAs; .271/.363/.400 and then another year-plus in AAA: 588 PAs; .326/.437/.490 * 2008 definitely turned out to be an interesting draft for these NY Mets Campbell was drafted two rounds after the guy (we assume) he's replacing and 5 rounds after the last player to get sent down, Kirk Nieuwenhuis This was also the year where they had the three picks in the top 33 (their own plus two for Glavine returning to Atlanta) all of which now are out of the picture with just Matt Thorton & PtbNL to show for it. #18 over Ike Davis (traded); # 22 overall Reese Havens (retired this winter); #33 overall Brad Holt (pitching for the Long Island Ducks after apparently taking 2013 off) Other 2008'ers include Collin McHugh (now enjoying a renaissance in Houston) 18th round, and Chris Schwinden - 22nd round
  15. It's time for somebody to be a hero. I'm not going to be picky about who.
  16. Papi just broke up Darvish's no-hitter w/2 outs in the 9th. Drove a single right through the shift.
  17. Ceetar wrote: Wasn't the most exciting game to drive to. . Shit, you could have driven to New Mexico in the time it's taken to play this game.
  18. OK, a nice job by Farnsworth sets it up for a redemption by Satin, Flores, and/or d'Arnaud for leaving all those runners on all night. Or CYoung can just bang one out of the park before we ever get to that point -- either way.
  19. And now if we can keep them off the board in the top half of the 9th it'll likely keep Papelbon in his seat for the bottom half.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Only takes one good swing at this deficit however. Yeah, but the problem is that one good swing will bring this night's total to one.
  21. Unlike the games on the recent road trip, tonight we definitely can NOT claim to be hitting in bad luck. Aside from the 1st inning hits (and now this one here by Flores) most of the ABs have been a collection of weak grounders, lazy pop ups, and poorly timed Ks. It's really only because of the walks, some seeing-eye hits, and some Philly miscues that we've even had any chances.
  22. Things this game is going to set records for 1) Futility 2) Pitches thrown 3) Runners Left on Base 4) Conferences at the mound
