  1. And at the risk of sounding like a broken record, we are now more than 2 hours into a game which is just part half over.
  2. Hey Matsuzaka, your team actually gets you some catch-up runs after you were nice enough to give up two-hits to the pitcher and about three other guys last inning, so why not try walking the leadoff guy next inning just for kicks?
  3. Two shots to get a runner in from 3rd (and tie the game) = Two failures
  4. Sunday's NY Times Crossowrd 101 DOWN: The _ _ _ _ _ _ METS I wonder how many non, or partial, sports fans they caught wondering why AMAZING only had six slots?
  5. Say goodnight Gracie!
  6. If Dice doesn't get Simmons here this game is essentially over.
  7. 2-out RBI hits in 3 consecutive innings - including one to the pitcher. I'm not sure the Mets have three 2-out RBI hits this season.
  8. They made the tough but unpopular decision not to protect him, but that's not necessarily the same thing as wanting him gone or having this all calculated to do so. The 'official' explanation (if there can ever be such a thing) that they risked exposing him because they thought he was unlikely to get scooped up due to age and salary is plenty logical.
  9. Wheeler - 3.1 Black - 0.15 Edgin - 0.15 Granderson - 1.8 Murphy - 1.4 d'Arnaud - 1.4
  10. - Oakland closer Sean Doolittle, he of the 56/1 K/BB ratio and who we couldn't touch last week, came on in Detroit last night for the 'cookie' save (3 run lead). Not only did he wind up giving up his 2nd walk of the season but then he followed that by serving up a game-losing Grand Slam (Rajai Davis) - The Padres won their 2nd game in the last month [u:2l44vc3g]in which they were one hit[/u:2l44vc3g]. Read that sentence again just to make sure it sunk in. Mat Latos and the Reds were the victims last night as a 5th inning Walk, Steal, FO, FO accounted for the only run of the game while something named Jesse Hahn and four relievers were shutting out the Reds. Back on June 4th they beat Pittsburgh 3-2 while collecting only one hit. So that's two wins via four runs on 2 hits in those games. The Mets have notched 21 hits over their last two games and have just five runs and two losses to show for it.
  11. Yeah, I wasn't a fan of the Viola deal at the time it was made and certainly wasn't on board with those who felt they HAD to do it. At some point in a team's development (like when those Top-5 overall draft picks quit falling in your lap) you need to switch gears from dealing prospects for established players to the other way around and I'm not sure Cashen recognized that as the late 80's morphed into the '90s
  12. And the lesser-known the actor was (to American audiences anyway) the more likely he was to get killed. Now who could have seen THAT coming?
  13. AAAA? That 8th inning would have needed six fewer screw-ups just to get it up to the level of Single-A
  14. What's Duda got to do with things? He's the only guy in that inning who DIDN'T make an error! IMO it would help if he knew the proper way to stretch. He actually made that play look worse. And played correctly he could have gotten that call. Except he never even touched the ball in that whole inning. There were five ground balls hit but none of them were thrown to him. Hell, most of them weren't thrown to anyone on edit: yeah there was that pointless relay throw - but the runner was about nine feet past the bag by the time the ball got there.
  15. What's Duda got to do with things? He's the only guy in that inning who DIDN'T make an error!
  16. The only remaining go-to Met move, now that they muffed themselves into a two-run deficit, is to score one, [u:wuu0dhip]but only one[/u:wuu0dhip], run off of Kimbrel,
  17. The Braves should tell Upton to hit a hard one-hopper right at an infielder - it's a guaranteed two runs minimum!
  18. I think we've discovered the cause of death for Frank Cashen.
  19. Zvon wrote: This is the kind of game that drives me crazy. This is the kind of game that shows why we're seven games behind the Braves despite having the same run differential as they do.
  20. No big deal, it's not like they have some unhittable guy in their pen or anything.
  21. Now let's see if we can walk the guy who is TRYING TO MAKE AN OUT!!!!!
  22. If you offered me the option of only being down by Five runs after this inning is done, I'd take it.
  23. Has anyone in NYM colors caught a ball cleanly tonight?
  24. Just INVENTING ways to lose games!!
  25. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Are the Mets wearing anything to memorialize Frank Cashen? They're adding bow ties to their uniforms for tomorrow night's game.
