  1. That's two 1st-to-home dashes for Grandy in one afternoon - and neither one was a gimme.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Is that a mirror behind and to the right of home plate? I can only guess that it was put there for today's game to allow fans on TV to get a view of Anthony Recker's ass. There's a camera in there from which they will occasionally show a shot. I think they've tried several types of glass over it because when they first put in out there the covering was getting broken by foul balls on a regular basis. Plus it shows a reflection of Anthony Recker's ass real well.
  3. And remember folks, if your case of Rougned Odor last for more than four hours, contact your physician.
  4. And yet another opposing pitcher who gets his first-ever hit vs the Mets this season. That must be at least five or six this year, seems like thirty. And I really hope 'Operation Shutdown' isn't in effect again today. A five run 1st inning is supposed to be a start, not the end, of your scoring.
  5. So if Tepesch were pitching for the home team here, how long do you think it would take this board to nickname him 'Tepid' ? Not long I suspect.
  6. Multiple, 2-out, RBI hits ... what a concept!!!

  9. Edgy MD wrote: Tough chance wasted in the eighth with Laggy tearing into a ball but it turning into a 4-6-3. Giving away the first two strikes with lame bunt attempts didn't help. Yeah he wound up hitting it hard, but the 0-2 pitch put him in a must-swing position. But the bottom line is that the Rangers got two two-out HRs for 4 of their 5 runs, while our bats--given a bases-loaded/no-out situation, then later a lead-off double, then later still a 1st & 2nd/none out set-up--and wound up with exactly one single and one run out of all three combined.

  11. I don't know about any shitlist (he may have been last year but his bounce back this season tends to make 2013 look like the outlier rather than the start of a downward spiral), but this deal just gives the Cubs another potential replacement for him -- Russell, Javier Baez (probably not a SS in the long run), Arismendy Alcantara (at AAA Iowa) -- which means the Cubs are likely to be open to dealing him. So for those reasons, plus the shaky defense, plus the lengthy contract (which the current mgmt didn't negotiate but inherited), I don't think it would take a top prospect like Syndergaard to pry him loose. A lesser pitcher maybe as the Cubs system is very light on arms, but not our top guy.
  12. Yeah, we're gonna regret not cashing in more runs there in the 3rd.
  13. Here's the problem with a network game: SNY would instantly show us the shift - or lack of one - with Duda up and the bases loaded, and have commentary to go with it. FOX is either content to let us guess or they just don't care that much. Turns out, as seen from the high shot, that they were playing things fairly straight up, but we found that out essentially by accident.
  14. Exactly how deep a fly ball would be required to get Bartolo in from 3rd? I'm thinking somewhere in the 5-600 ft range.
  15. Definitely NOT a catch.
  16. Maybe it just seems this way, but I think the last 56 runs the Met staff have given up all came with two outs.
  17. bmfc1 wrote: Let me rephrase so as not to slight the abilities of Ruben Tejada... if you want Mets to pursue Starlin Castro, what do you think it would take to obtain him in a trade? Noah S. too much? Yes. NS > SC, IMO
  18. I wouldn't mind seeing Nieuwenhuis starting and Abreu sitting one of these days. Get the kid some ABs Terry.
  19. Ashie62 wrote: I found it odd the Mets talked about Murphy and Astros SS Jonathan Villar... That would likely be an underselling of Murphy... The Mets talked about Murphy & Villar, or leaked notes suggested the Astros speculated about Murphy & Villar?
  20. Full details of the A's/Cubs blockbuster seem to be Samardzija & Hammel for * Addison Russell -- SS, 1st round draft pick 2012 (11th overall) out of Fla HS, 20 y/o, Top-10 in all of baseball prospect, currently in AA * Billy McKinney -- OF, 1st round draft pick 2013 (24th overall) out of a Texas HS, 20 y/o next month, currently at A+ * Dan Straily -- RHP, 25 y/o, pitched in parts of the last three seasons w/Oakland, currently at AAA * PtbNL or cash Samardzija is 29 y/o and under club control thru 2015 Hammel will turn 32 in September and can be FA at the end of this season Pretty clear that this is a classic 'Go For it NOW!!!! cuz who know when things will ever look this good again' move by Beane
  21. Yanx find an at least temporary cure for their losing ways in the same place they always find it -- the Twins; but at the same time Sabathia's rehab has been shut down due to knee soreness and swelling which not only will likely be season-ending but has phrases like 'micro-fracture surgery' and 'career threatening' being thrown around. And while there is always, even in cases involving the Yanquis, the concern about never wishing injuries on anyone, the one element of legit schadenfreude here goes back to when Johan Santana was constantly injured at a time when Sabathia was making every start and all the 'un-named MFY sources' (and by extension some of the fans) who took credit for waiting out the Santana trade in order to focus on CC the next year because they claimed to know--not THINK mind you, but KNOW--how fragile Johan was and how the much bigger Sabathia was destined to be the more durable. Knew it all along they did, going back to before either were yet available. Well now your guy, who will turn 34 y/o next week and already forced you into one contract extension beyond the original signing, has an ERA of around 5.00 over his last 40 starts going back to the beginning of 2013 and is owed some $65 million going forward despite the fact that you geniuses don't know when, or how well, or even IF he's going to pitch again. So I think I'm perfectly within the bounds of proper decorum in asking; How does THAT rancid pair of size 62-waist pinstripes taste you smug dickwads? Oh well, maybe you can work out a deal for Samardzjia? ... oh wait, no you can't!
  22. No Wright, (essentially) no Niese, facing their one big pitcher, were down on the 3rd pitch of the game, had lost a bunch in a row = Nice Win! (even if it did takes 7 hours to complete)
  23. Shades of Luis Castillo there.
  24. Freakin' unnecessary walk!
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Do we even want Starling Castro? Some dope on wfan said we should trade Muffy Niese and Montero to get him, Joe and Evan were like, good deal. Certainly not an 'At any price' kind of guy. As Keith mentioned, occasionally and lackadaisical and erratic defensively. Only 24, but a Sub-.300 OBA last year, and is signed thru 2020 (which could be a good or bad thing depending on how he plays). Joe & Evan are idiots. Benigno in particular thinks whoever ISN'T here now is the shit - and he spent years trying to get rid of Reyes & Beltran when they were here.
