  1. Braves get one in the 8th to tie then two in the 9th for a 3-1 win and, in doing so, evade the four game sweep [3-1 Phils]
  2. Reds win, but to the Cards who are right behind them in the standings so bad news/good news there. Cubs down 4-2 in Denver in the 6th so that could still go either way Padres lose to mini soda Yanx' 7 game winning streak just got ended with a 3-2 loss to the ChiSox (bottom 8 HR broke the tie) Bellinger K'd to end the game on a borderline called strike 3 pitch (and tying run on 2nd) so I'm sure Aaron Boone will register a formal protest of the game Phils/Braves tonight

He starts almost every batter with a 2-0 count; he didn't even get his second out (the Sac Fly) until pitch #21, and finally finished the inning with #24. And if it were only 1st innings it would be one thing but the subsequent frames just seem to continue the pattern. Brandon Sproat That's the Sproat with the 4.24 ERA in the minors, right? The point isn't to get minor leaguers up here in place of the likes of Senga & Peterson it's to get them here to supplement those guys.

  5. 4 - 2 Cardinals is your final
  6. Going to the clown car rules in Philly. Tied 1-1 after 9 Long-haired Matt Strahm facing the bottom of the Braves order. Line-out (nice play by Harper) - RBI Single - Fly Out - Fly Out (Acuna) 2-1 Braves, heading to bottom 10 Righty Hunter Stratton on for Atlanta, 6-7-8 due up, ghost runner = Bohm: 1st pitch HBP -- K - fly ball Single - - K (Marsh) - Two-out/two/strike-two RBI single (Turner) Phils win. Both the fly ball single and the game-winner were in front of Acuna who was playing much deeper than seemed reasonable and who doesn't seem to be moving as well or covering as much ground as he did before his recent (second) ACL surgery. The short fly which fell in front of him looked very catchable. So Philly will go at least 3-1 in this series while the Mets will do at best 2-2 in theirs, and 4-0 vs 1-3 remains a distinct possibility. In Cincy, the Cards lead 3-2 after 7
  7. There were a handful of disappointing ABs in those last couple innings. Not just bad results but what looked like bad approaches. Vientos (twice), the 3-pitch K by Marte, and a few others. On the plus side, the Braves just tied up the Phils in the 6th
  8. Is this (awful) Jon Cena rally video exclusive to the Mets or are there 29 other versions of it being played at stadiums not near you?
  9. Well, we probably knew that 8 runs wasn't going to be enough.

  12. Need Mullins to get on base in front of the big boys.
  13. Devinski settles things down with six outs (five batters) on 19 pitches. And still six (5-1/2) innings to go. What was that candy bar commercial slogan?: 'Not going anywhere for a while?'
  14. It wasn't from 1st base, but an example there of a runner advancing fewer bases because he tagged up on a ball that wound up Not being caught.
  15. Randy Moffitt -- 76 12 year ('72 - '83) ML reliever, mostly with San Fran after being their 1st round draft pick (18th overall) Career stats: 534 Games (1 start), 306 games finished, 96 saves, 3.54 ERA. And of course most famous for being the younger brother of Billie Jean King. Reports say "after a long illness"
  16. Tagging from 1st is rarely a good idea. The ball has to be seen as easily catchable early enough in its flight for the runner to recognize that and have time to tag, yet deep enough to where he can get to the base ahead of what is almost always the shortest throw for an outfielder. If the runner is wrong on his judgment of the hit itself and it drops for a hit then his tagging just turned his teammate's XBH into a single. And if he's wrong on his ability to get to 2nd ahead of the throw then he runs into a really stupid DP. So it's like one of those Venn diagrams where three different circles might each be a decent size but their intersection is usually very small. Plus, being wrong in any of those calculations carries a downside that's much bigger than the small upside of 1st to 2nd. Hell, given the SB success rates these days it would be much easier just to steal the base after the catch than to risk trying to finesse your way through a small window for the same result.
  17. But, right now, he's flirting with the possibility of not lasting long enough to qualify for a 'W'
  18. Edgy MD wrote: Sixty-nine pitches through four for The Tong Depressor. Which is a) somewhat high, and particularly high when you consider he was at 6 pitches after inning #1, so it's 63 over the most recent three But tonight's not the time for nit-picking. As Ronnie said a bit ago, when they review the films of the game over the next day or two what Tong is going to need to tighten up is fastball location.
  19. 2 innings / 20 batters / 12 runs / 6 outs / 2 LOB
  20. Would I sound like a whiny baby if I complain, 'Where were some of these hits last night?!?'
  21. It's their 'City Connect' version for this year. And it's not just green but 'Fenway Green' The shade which matches their famous LF wall is a registered color under that name.
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Full name (acc to BB-Ref): Jonah Reid Tin Chee Matthew Tong Gotta like that! That beats the multi-name record of Saturnino Orestes Armas (Minnie) Miñoso. But not quite up to the standard of: Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish 'Cal' to his friends.

I expect to see one of these at CitiField before too long.
