  1. The Yanx had a 3-0 lead in Houston but gave up a run in the 5th, two in the 6th, one in the 7th, then four in the 8th ... all of which were just enough to have Cody Bellinger's 2-out/9th inning/3R-HR leave them one run short as the final was 8-7 Astros. But at least the Yanx have narrowed down the problem and, guess what?, it was the umpires!!! As has been the case for (looking up the # of games played) the 139th time this season, the umpiring was -- according to them -- stacked against them. This all led to many mad players and allowed Aaron Boone to tack on to his ML-leading ejection lead. I think that's now eight heave-hos for 'Boonie' and all, I believe, have been for arguing B/S calls. Because if a Yanqui says that a pitch was either a ball or a strike then it's not a subjective call, it's a fact.
  2. =Fman99 post_id=203211 time=1756980445 user_id=86] Mets up four in the WC with 22 games left to play.
  3. No, in large part because of the pitching results they've gotten. Those "one-game guys" haven't been the problem, they've merely been the patchwork filling in holes because the likes of Senga and Manaea, and Megill, and Montas, and Blackburn, and Minter, and Canning, and Nunez, and (more recently) Helsley, have all been injured and/or FAR below expectations. You're mixing up cause and effect here.
  4. All six Tiger runs came on three two-out hits (1 RBI, 2 RBI, 3 RBI) so it seemed that NYM pitchers had trouble getting the first AND the last outs of innings. On the plus side, the Orioles just teed off on three straight HRs [3R, Solo, Solo] in the top of the 3rd in SD for a 6-0 lead, knocking Nestor Cortes out of the game in the process. Now 7-0 and still batting.

SFG, the same distance behind us as the Reds when the day began, IS looking to gain ground and are currently leading the Rockies 4-1 in the 5th in Denver Phils have closed to 6-3, top 8th
  6. The loss totally ****ed my idea of posting the Good Rats* to celebrate a sweep. * 'Takin' it to Detroit', of course
  7. Baty - Torrens - Lindor in the 9th, and they can't hit for Torrens.
  8. Because the seasons leading up to this one he had a sub-3.00 ERA, sub-1.00 WHIP, 5.4 H/9, and throws 100+ while still in his prime (30) It clearly hasn't worked out to date whether from tipping or something else, but it sure doesn't look like something that was knowable ahead of time. In any case, we weren't going to win this game with two runs anyway so they've got two shots to get their hitting shoes on.
  9. The 5-0 Reds lead over Toronto after 2 has turned into a 12 - 7 Blue Jays lead in the 8th Also nice to see that the Brewers lead the Phils 6-1 in the 6th, and that the Braves lead the Cubs 4-1 in the 7th It wasn't a good day in Mets-land but you look for good news where you can find it.
  10. Now five innings in seven w/leadoff runners on off three different pitchers. You have to be fortunate to allow only three runs beginning nearly each inning that way.
  11. Question my choice of words, but I was right. He didn't get through the fifth. It wasn't merely a choice of words, it was your stated reason for doing so. He was pulled because he was 20+ pitches in that inning in particular with two runners on and a lefty coming up, not due to some predetermined artificial constraints. And it didn't work.
  12. I think that's five leadoff runners on own six inning for DET (at least 4 of 6). oe: 4 of 6. In the 5th inning the Tigers got a one out walk and in the 3rd went out 1-2-3 But they got the leadoff runner on in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th.
  13. None of which has anything to do with his pitch count or a 'wall'.
  14. Mize out after 5 innings/68 pitches for no apparent reason.
  15. I didn't know a 'wall' had been established. 61 pitches thru 4 is a good pace, and Holmes has had multiple games of six innings or more and pitch counts in the 80s & 90s and even 100+ this year. And are we really looking to be anxious to get into the bullpen in the middle innings?!?
  16. BoSox rookie sensation Roman Anthony*, who's been a big part of their post-Devers second half surge, goes to the IL with an oblique strain. They're saying his return date is TBD but: a) obliques are never quick and with < a month left in the season the Sawx better hang in the playoffs for a while if they want to see him again this year. With a .292/.396/.463 slash line in his first 300 PAs and a nine year contract already under his belt, he's both a big part of their present and their future. * Roman's father and brother are both named Anthony ... that's right, Anthony Anthony Sr. and Anthony Anthony Jr.
  17. Cubs won, Padres lost. So 1.0 G behind SD for WC #2, 5.0 in back of CHC for WC #1 5.0 G in front of both CIN and the suddenly streaking Giants (9-1 over last 10)
  18. Jays tack on one, 12 - 9, Reds coming up They won a game a few days ago by scoring three times in the 9th. Giants leading early in Denver Padres/O's just getting started in SD Phillies are oddly off today, will resume in Milwaukee tomorrow
  19. Jays 11 - Reds 9, bottom 8, runner on 3rd, 2 outs ... and Ke'Bryan Hayes Ks to end the inning. Going to the 9th.
  20. =Centerfield post_id=203074 time=1756860276 user_id=65] Kinda heard Gary mention something about it but I remember hating Paddack as a Padre. I think he did something dickheady.
  21. No ethnicity was indicated for Ensign Willie Keith, played by the actor Robert Francis, in THE CAINE MUTINY
  22. Didn't realize this was a 6:40 first pitch so it took me 7 full innings to catch up to real time. So in my version of tonight's game the Mets still scored the same amount of runs but they did so more quickly.
  23. So the Phils won in Milwaukee in a game which sounded maybe not unlike ours. 10-8 was the final as the Phils scored 3 in the 6th, 2 in the 8th, 2 in the 9th There were 24 total hits off 14 pitchers (7 each). Starters Taijuan Waker gave the Phils 4 innings (5 ER/85 pitches) and Les Mis(iorowski) a whopping 4.1 for the Brews (3/73) Also Reds won at home with 3 in the 9th after the Blue Jays had seemingly stole the game by scoring 3 to take a 4-2 lead in top 9th. In other NL WC news: Cubs beat the Braves in the 10th; Padres down by one to the Orioles in the 5th (game in SD); Cards lost; Giants won.
  24. All I know is that, perhaps appropriately, there was a lot of Laboring going on out on that hill in the middle of the diamond.
  25. =Centerfield post_id=202993 time=1756758225 user_id=65] Every reliever allowed a run or allowed an inherited runner to score. Except Diaz.
