  1. Nats & O's tied at 2 in bottom 9 at Camden. ... and Jonathan Schoop hits wo HR off Tanner Roark!!
  2. Familia kept shaking Plawecki off before that RBI single. Maybe you should listen to the kid Jeurys.
  3. Lamb lies down on a pitch right down Broadway.
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: Larger point being, I don't think Mr. Anderson can pull off that kind of sleight-of-hand shit again so I think we owe him an ass-kicking. So it wasn't a total ass-kicking, but it was at least a one-inning ass-kicking with a solid calf-whoopin' thrown in for good measure.
  5. This big Viking is pretty darn good, eh?
  6. First NYM cycle = Jim Hickman? That's my guess anyway.
  7. Mike Moustakas & Carlos Martinez are the 'last man' winners. Does that mean we're done with these silly promos now?
  8. In his case certainly injuries had some effect on things. After a good season in low-A and some prospect attention, he then had just 9 starts in 2013 then a poor follow-up year in 2014 which may or may not have been a hangover reaction to '13 and led to talk about maybe being a future bullpen-er But on that front, a follow-up question from this afternoon's Q&A from BA: Q: Do you see ultimately see Fulmer as a starter or reliever? J.J. Cooper (BA): Starter and a potentially pretty good one. Mets are producing a whole lot of pitching lately, huh?
  9. We faced Chase Anderson in the middle of the three game series out in the desert in early June. It was one of those games where we got one or more runners on in every inning (10 hits + 2 BBs + catcher's interference) but scored nothing save for a 2nd inning Juan Lagares HR; it, of course, was a solo. The Snakes then scored twice after 2-out/none-on in the 7th and we lost 2-1. It takes a lot of talent to NOT score with all those dudes on base but 8 LOB-sters [u:u6xw2yvz]plus Four[/u:u6xw2yvz] GiDPs (including ones to end both the 8th & 9th innings) is a great help. Larger point being, I don't think Mr. Anderson can pull off that kind of sleight-of-hand shit again so I think we owe him an ass-kicking.
  10. 3 runs allowed (and only 1 earned) over 2 starts brings around the second appearance in three weeks for Michael Fulmer in BA's 'Hot List' 11. Michael Fulmer, rhp, Mets Team: Double-A Binghamton (Eastern) Age: 22 Why Hes Here: 2-0, 0.69, 2 GS, 13 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 15 SO The Scoop: The Mets have always believed in Fulmer, and this year hes beginning to deliver on his promise. Scouts have seen the 2011 supplemental first-rounder sit in the mid-90s with his heavy fastball deep into his outings. He couples the pitch with a power slider and a changeup, and has allowed more than one earned run only once over his last nine starts. Overall stats at Bingo this year: 12 starts, 4-1, 2.06 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 70 IP, 63 K, 19 BB, 3 HRs
  11. A couple of interesting series as we head for the mid-season break - Yanx @ Sawx This looked like an afterthought for a while, but the Sox are the one AL East team playing well right now (even w/o Pedroia) and, while they can't catch the Yanx even with a sweep (-5.5), their streak combined with the collective slump elsewhere has closed up the entire division (2.5 from 2nd place to 5th) and a good series here will increase the drama. - Nationals @ Orioles No question where the rooting interest lies here. Nobody is announcing their pitching in advance. Be interesting to see if the Nats rearrange their rotation (had 2 straight off-days) and come back with Scherzer on Sunday, particularly if they lose the first two. Now if only the O's weren't playing like shit right now (2-8). - Cardinals @ Pirates This one is a 4-game series which got started Thursday night with a StL win. But the Pirates are 24-11 since June 1 and closed a 9-game gap down to 4.5 in just a 9 day span before giving one game back last night. Braves @ Rox Marlins hosting Cincy
  12. Can't wait for the future where every time you think of a player's name it counts towards his vote total. Or maybe they can rig it where each time a player's name is mentioned on ESPN it counts as a vote. That'll be good: Now starting, as the AL short-stop for the 2017 All-Star Game, Derek Jeter
  13. As mentioned by Gary the other day, the last NYM HR not by Granderson (prior to Campbell's) was by Travis d'Arnaud, who's now been gone so long I've forgotten what he looks like. actually it was June 20th but it just seems like ancient history. It was in the top half of the 6th inning vs the Braves and was his 3rd RBI of the night. He would be injured in the bottom of that same inning
  14. deGrom - 5.6 Familia - 0.5 Campbell - 2.4 Lagares - 0.5 Plawecki - 0.5 Tejada - 0.5
  15. Colon - 2.5 CTorres - 0.4 ATorres - 0.4 Plawecki - 1.2 Granderson - 0.75 Mayberry - 0.75
  16. Niese - 5.5 Familia - 0.4 Nieuwenhuis - 1.2 Monell - 1.4 Cuddyer - 0.8 Lagares - 0.7
  17. I think we've just found our new all-purpose acronym: QVH - a Quality Veteran Hitter Definitions of such will be a little tough to pin down although after the fact vision of one will be 20/20 as always.
  18. When Gary was talking about this yesterday it seemed like he was dying to say how cheesy he thought the whole thing was but was forced to read it straight because it was essentially an on-air promo sent down from above rather than a topic he & Ronnie just chose to talk about. And in addition to the Twins thing I mentioned above, the Yanx were playing with VOTE GARDY lettering behind home plate last night. He'll probably get in anyway seeing as how starting LFer Alex Gordon went down with an injury last night, but the whole thing just smells so bush league.
  19. The Jays also have a serious +/- in runs scored (+84 !!!) for a team that's only a game over .500 Mainly they win a ton of blowouts so their almost Cardinal-esque 'Pythagorean' projection of 51-36 is probably unrealistic, but they're by far the best in that division from a RS/RA perspective. Yanx +18 Balt +42 TB -10 BOS -37 But the biggest Pythag oddity this year has to go to Oakland, 9 games under .500 (39-48) and in last place despite a [u:222vtww2]+49 RS/RA[/u:222vtww2] Their problem hasn't been winning blowouts as much as it's been losing virtually every one and two run game they've played. In their first 22 one or two run games of the season they went 3-19 Pythag says they should be 49-38 instead of 39-48 and that disparity is thought to be what's keeping them on the fence as the trading deadline approaches.
  20. Anytime the teams in the AL East would like to stop sucking it would be OK with me. The Yanx are 7-9 over the last 2-1/2 weeks but have gone from 1 game out to 2-1/2 ahead because the rest of the pack has decided to take July off so far Balt: 2-8 over their last 10 games Toronto: 3-7 and TB has 3 wins in their last [u:1rn4tbnp]17 games[/u:1rn4tbnp] Only Boston, a full 10 games out on June 26, has a winning record lately (8-2) and have cut their gap in half although are still in last place. But suddenly the three game series in Fenway vs Yanx this weekend might actually be semi-relevant. Yanx got both Ellsbury and Andrew Miller back off the DL as of last night.
  21. Zvon wrote: Ashie62 wrote: THEY DIDN'T NEED TO PULL deGROM. The joys of modern baseball... not. ^ great seeing Familia rack up another save but as a fan I would have enjoyed seeing a complete game even more. If they had gone into the 9th still just 2-0 and deGrom's slot in the lineup not come up I would have been very disappointed -- mad even -- had he not at least started the bottom of the 9th. But once they went up by 4 and then his spot came up in the batting order when you were going to bring in Kirk* for defense anyway, I had no problem with it. * although, as Gary said during the telecast, the difference in output between NYM pitchers and NYM pinch-hitters isn't all that much
  22. OK deGrom, there's your run. Now make it stand up.
  23. I still don't get the NYM/Twins connection here. Gary just mentioned it about an inning ago. It sounded like something he was being required to mention but was trying very hard not to sound that way while doing so. Meanwhile the Twins were playing an afternoon game today at home with a 'Vote Dozier' message on the back of the mound where team logos have been popping up in recent years.
  24. I see it's another 'Baserunners Optional' day in Met-ville.
  25. Centerfield wrote: Fuck this. Going to bed. Why? Other than the getting two-hit part, and getting another runner thrown out at the plate, and allowing them baserunners four separate times on balls that didn't leave the infield ... I think things are going pretty well.
