  1. Plus I heard the Mets medical staff includes the dentist who killed that lion in Africa!!
  2. Eh. I usually find myself more apprehensive about what might happen at these deadlines, more fraidy-scared, IOW, about what we might lose than about anticipating what we might get. That said I've been OK with the relatively low-key deals so far, and while I approved of the aborted Gomez deal I can live with four more years of Wheeler & Flores and/or having them as chips for future stuff. On the other hand I'm sick to death about yesterday's game, apprehensive about this upcoming series, and worried about our suddenly shaky bullpen.
  3. Brian Sabean takes a leak. Giants GM Brian Sabean swung a trade for RHP Mike Leake sending two prospects to Cincinnati to make the deal. Leake was supposedly on the Yanx radar but current rumors have them going after more relievers like maybe Kimbrel.
  4. Fuller would provide the trading partner (or the Mets for that matter) the full six years of control rather than Wheeler who'll be only around 3+ by the time he gets back to pitching (FA after 2020 season vs probably 2023) Balance that out with the less "dynamic" stuff and the unproven nature of never having pitched in the bigs for Fulmer and it adds up to ... I dunno, take your pick.
  5. What the Nationals will have for this series that they haven't for most of the times we've seen them this year: Ryan Zimmerman back at 1B, Jayson Werth back in RF, Anthony Rendon at 3rd, Jonathan Papelbon closing. Of their planned starters, only CF Denard Span is still out, Michael Taylor continues to sub in. These returns/additions helps out their bench as now the guys who have been starting (and for the most part succeeding) like Clint Robinson & Danny Espinosa get moved to fill-in work. And the acquisition of Papelbon allows them to move former closers Drew Storen to the 8th and Casey Janssen to the 7th -- there's 528 career saves among that trio. Same pitching trios as the last series match-up: Harvey vs Gio Gonzalez, deGrom vs Joe Ross (just saw his brother w/SD), and Syndergaaaaard vs Zimmermannnnnn All games at night (boooo) including Sunday's Last time out you will recall we lost the Harvey/Gonzalez match, won the middle game and then were winning the finale when Parnell blew up the 8th inning.
  6. Ken Rosenthal is talking about a Wheeler for Jay Bruce deal "possibly with one other player involved" (doesn't say which way). < 17 hours left.
  7. Gomez + Mike Fiers (aka the guy who hit Giancarlo in the face last year) to Houston for four prospects: LHP Josh Hader, RHP Adrian Houser, OFs Brett Phillips and Domingo Santana. Phillips seems to be the highest rated of that bunch. George Springer is on the DL right now but at some point the Astros are going to have an OF of Colby Rasmus, Springer, Gomez, and Jake Marisnick. Former KC closer Joachim Soria to the Pirates for a prospect.
  8. Our previously season-long strong bullpen is suddenly misbehaving big time. The fortifying move of bringing in Clip-Art now looks like a fortuitous act of desperation.
  9. And to bolster their pitching staff (especially with word today that Michael Pineda will NOT make tonight's start and is going on the DL) the Yanquis were able to land ... ... perennially disappointing (and former #2 overall pick) Dustin Ackley from Seattle. Oh did I mention that he's a 2B/LF ? Two NYY pro(su)spects going the other way. They also just DFA'd Chris Capuano after his disaster start the other night (the one where they bailed him out with 21 unanswered runs). At this point I think I'm 3rd in line to start their game on Sunday.
  10. They definitely used to do that last full inning stuff. Now I think their intent is to play it out and if I were the Nationals I'd make damn sure that's what happens.
  11. Nymr83 wrote: very reasonable, today's wuss relievers are trained not to come back and pitch a 2nd inning so why bring them back after a rain delay? Because he had only thrown 4 pitches, and because your other best options were already spent.
  12. Ummm, somebody forgot to close the game out. Pads offense today essentially consists of about a dozen bloops and bleeders mixed in with two fucking bombs! Now all we need is a comeback vs Kimbrel ... was he even warming up?
  13. And Morse Ks Perfect 8th by Storen, perfect 9th from Papelbon
  14. **** RAIN DELAY THEATRE**** Papelbon vs Marlins with 1/run lead - Ichiro = Ground out - Yelich = line-out Michael Morse up ... wait a minute, isn't he part of that trade?!?!?
  15. This is looking like a line of storms so it's going to blow by and at some point they'll finish this.
  16. Yeah, him. Just as I'm typing that I'm also hearing that Alex Wood is part of the re-vamped Marlins/Dodgers trade that now involves the Braves.
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Howie just said "Ruh-Roh." So he apparently monitors us just like Gary does. But I'm betting that Howie's a lot more up on his Scooby than I am.
  18. OF/1B Brandon Wood to StL from Cleveland Cards have been searching for a more permanent solution to 1B since Matt Adams was injured.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Rut-Roh Scooby! NO, NO, NO! We need to post effectively if we're going to carry the day here. It's "Rut-Roh, Raggy!" or "Rut-Roh, Reorge!" I had a feeling that was factually incorrect, but I never watched that show so I wasn't sure of the actual quote.
  20. Barmes's E on a potential GiDP ball probably keeps Niese in the game as Campbell was on deck. Don't quite understand wanting to yank Niese so early. Yeah he gave up a run last inning but 2 of the 3 hits were cheesey/lucky.
  21. Yeah, I don't Revere Ben either.
  22. In the meantime, we have to put away trade talk and win this frickin' game. With the Nats & Marlins also playing at noon today, this is not only for the series win but we're either going to be 1 game or 3 games out about 3 hours from now - and not coincidently it dictates how we go into the weekend series vs the Nats.
  23. metsmarathon wrote: 2. player(s) continue to play becuase deal not yet official This was the only odd part as usually players who are even in discussion for trades are either held out or pulled out of games for fear of an in-game injury scuttling the plans of the men working the phones. That Terry wasn't informed (acc to him) and therefore Flores wasn't pulled probably should have been the first clue that maybe the deal wasn't as far along or as solid as most if not all of the reports indicated. But of course it's easier to paint Terry as clueless and/or the front office as heartless than it is to assume that 267 different media reports are inaccurate (even if most of them are merely copying each other and giving the illusion of multiple confirmations).
