  1. With Sheff, the Giants knew that the Mets wouldn't want to keep him for next year. With Wagner, the Mets have some leverage: the Mets can keep him on the roster, offer him arbitration, and when he declines (because he wants to close but won't with the Mets), get the compensatory draft picks when he becomes a FA.
  2. Jon Heyman tweets: SI_JonHeyman#mets billy wagner has been claimed. mets have 3 days to do deal with claiming team So it's either do a deal with that team, release him, or hold onto him--we've learned that from the Sheff mess.
  3. June 7, 2009; Nationals Park; Livan continued his dominance of the Nationals with 7 shutout innings. The Mets scored 5 in the first and coasted to a 7-0 win. He was hitting the corners and beautifully mixing his off-speed pitches with his "fast" ball.
  4. Boston released Chris Duncan. I know he's not very good but neither are the current players. Would it be the worst thing for the Mets to sign him, play him for a month, and see if he could help in '10?
  5. ="Kong76"]bmfc: Jon Heyman tweets (sorry Kong) <<< I thought it was Joel Sherman? Accuracy is my motto! Sherman was re-tweeting Heyman: nyp_joelshermanstill don't understand y Mets didn't take Grade-C prospect back RT @SI_JonHeyman giants were team that claimed sheff b4 mets pulled back.
  6. Jon Heyman tweets that the Giants claimed Sheff but the Mets "pulled him back." Wouldn't any minor leaguer be better than the nothing they're going to get when his contract expires at the end of the season?
  7. moved, as directed
  8. Mets reporters haven't been posting the opposition lineups. They were earlier in the year.
  9. Wow. Was that Billy Wagner's final inning as a Met?
  10. SI_JonHeymantoo late to trade sheff, by the way. was already blocked on waivers. #mets
  11. NYPost_MetsGary Sheffield is in uniform and on the #Mets' bench despite his threat to leave the team because they turned down his extension request.
  12. http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/st/archives/2009/08/sheff_and_mets.html Sheff wants a contract extension.
  13. After Sheff was scratched, Jerry's presser was delayed so reporters speculated via tweet that Sheff was being traded--but The Post guy then wrote that Sheff can't be traded, only released. Then Jerry said that Sheff asked for a day off. 20 pitch limit for Wagner tonight. And--get ready--Redding gets the start on Saturday!
  14. METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B Gary Sheffield LF Daniel Murphy 1B Jeff Francoeur RF Fernando Tatis 3B Brian Schneider C Anderson Hernandez SS Johan Santana LHP (13-8, 3.10) Welcome back Billy Wagner. Goodbye Livan.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 19 2009 07:09 PM F*cking great! MFS62 Aug 19 2009 07:20 PM I'm calling this kangaroo court to order. Runner on third with no outs and can't get a run home? Wouldn't change the outcome of the game very much, but somebody has to ante up. Later LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 19 2009 07:20 PM Murphy triples to lead off the bottom of the sixth. The innings ends with him standing on third. This feels a bit familiar. Except worse. Kong76 Aug 19 2009 07:24 PM ny83: screw this team <<< See ya tomorrow. Frayed Knot Aug 19 2009 07:31 PM You can tell it's throw in the towel time ... they're taking calls in the booth. Nymr83 Aug 19 2009 09:23 PM ="Ashie62":lk6g0sev]This team bears a striking resemblance to the Indians in the motion picture "Major League" but without the talent[/quote:lk6g0sev] maybe they're the minor league team in major league 3? where the twin middle infielders run into each other?
  16. 4 runs are because of Castillo's screw up.
  17. Castillo's played about a bazillion baseball games in his life. How did he not automatically, instinctively, move to cover 2d on that play? All I can think of is that he never registered the fact that there was a runner on first.
  18. METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B Gary Sheffield LF Daniel Murphy 1B Jeff Francoeur RF Fernando Tatis 3B Omir Santos C Anderson Hernandez SS Bobby Parnell RHP (3-4, 3.50)
  19. http://www.3rdbasecoachoflife.com/ I don't get this website. Is it supposed to be funny? And why Razor? At least Razor is making a few bucks.
  20. Pedro Cerrano: Jesus, I like him very much, but he no help with curveball. Eddie Harris: You trying to say Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball? Pedro Cerrano (looking at golf club covers): Hats for bats, keep bats warm. And then Pedro Cerrano became President of the United States.
  21. I always get my son the Mets wall calendar and it's always outdated (I'm not making a calendar pun) by the end of the year because of player changes (e.g. this month features Marlon Anderson). The 2010 calendar is out and it's already outdated: http://www.amazon.com/York-Mets-2010-Wall-Calendar/dp/1436043204/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1250693635&sr=8-5 January--Wright Feb--Maine March--Schneider April--F. Rodriguez May--Castillo June--Pelfrey July--Beltran Aug--Putz Sept--Church (!) Oct--Johan Nov--Murphy Dec--J. Reyes (not A. Reyes)
  22. It's a shame that over 200 Phillies fans are bussing in for the game which means 200 people won't care about the ceremony. OTOH, about 200 of the shirts should end up on ebay (if Phillies fans can figure out how to use ebay). http://www.philliesnation.com/archives/2009/08/road-trip-to-citifield-this-saturday/
  23. Bravo! Let's see if Ollie can hold the lead.
  24. Good gosh almighty, how Oliver Perez stinks. Stinks to the highest level of stinking. And the Mets have to pay him through 2011. How I look forward to Omar's firing.
  25. METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B Gary Sheffield LF Daniel Murphy 1B Jeff Francoeur RF Fernando Tatis 3B Omir Santos C Anderson Hernandez SS Oliver Perez LHP (2-3, 5.97) Anderson Hernandez: your starting SS for the rest of the season. And his backup is Wilson Valdez. Holy crap. It's Lowe v. Ollie, otherwise known as "Omar's choice." Pedro is starting on Sunday. Standing O? Ryan Church wasn't happy w/Jerry's comments about him but will "take the high road." http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/mets/archives/2009/08/church_fires_ba.html
