  1. I read today that Chris Cotter will be in the studio doing work for SNY,that's what he was hired for in the first place,I remember Gary Cohen mentioning that early last season.
  2. Anderson Hernandez is doing good. ] It's been an interesting year for Anderson Hernandez. Nine months ago, he was the New York Mets' Opening Day second baseman. A back injury derailed the 24-year-old infielder, who spent most of the season working on his batting stroke at Triple-A Norfolk. He hit .249 with the Tides but seems to be back on his way to Shea Stadium after dominating in the Dominican Winter League playoffs. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound switch-hitter is second in the league with a .419 postseason batting average and 18 hits. He is also tied for the lead with 13 runs scored and has nine RBIs in 11 games with the Tigres del Licey.
  3. I got to like Cotter over the course of last season......in other Mets news we have this... ] Willie Randolph will depart the Mets' minicamp today and fly to Kansas City to be honored as the National League Manager of the Year by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Randolph was frustrated by being beaten out for the National League Manager of the Year honors by Joe Girardi, but was particularly pleased to receive this honor, the Charles Isham "C.I." Taylor Award. "This is a real honor," Randolph said. "I'm a historian of the game. "I have pictures of these guys -- Satchel Paige, Buck O'Neil, Josh Gibson -- on the walls of my office. "I wanted to take the time to go out there and thank them for thinking of me."
  4. One of the many great things about baseball is that you don't have to understand the commentry.....great catch by Endy..
  5. Mr. Brody seems like a funny guy.
  6. Well I can't defend Bonds anymore....
  7. Farmer Ted wrote: Who's the big burly guy in the background? A player or a bat boy? Is that Jim?...and that looks like Wright on the right behind the door.
  8. Pedro looks like Pedro circa 1999....some quotes from Pedro ]"Thanks to God, everything has gone perfect," he said. "I'm working hard. It's a long period of time, but it's paying off. Right now I'm good weight, good health, my range of motion is really good, so I'm very optimistic."
  9. What a fucking wanker, talking crap about Cliff like that...wasn't saying that crap abput LoDuca when he was in the NL East...
  10. I don't like Omar giving relievers of his ilk multi-year deals.
  11. I couldn't think of anything great for my Seaver post,I did find this funny though...from the Chicago Sun Times talking about Ripken ] Seaver won 311 games and three Cy Young Awards and finished with a 2.86 ERA. Great numbers, but not as impressive as Ripken's -- beginning with 2,632.
  12. I fear the starting rotation will come a cropper in the early going,or at least the older guys will be burned by July...Omar is putting a lot of faith in Glavine and Hernandez.......apart from that I think Philly will be better ,the Marlins will be good but with no new stadium again this year they will trade Willis to the Mets thus my fear for the starting rotation will be alleviated.
  13. ABG wrote: Ripken fell just short. McGwire got less than 25%. When I read this I thought Ripken didn't get in at all...
  14. George Brett on Seaver and the voting system ] Why is Tom Seaver the guy with the most? Brett says. Is he the best player ever to play? He was good, but he wasnt that good. He was Hall of Fame material, but is he (98.8) percent? And howd I get 98? I have no clue because I didnt go out of my way to be nice to people. Im sure some of them didnt vote for me because I was a (jerk) to them. All I know is it brought tears to my eyes when the guy told me I was on 98 percent of the ballots.
  15. Good, cos no one fucks with Seaver...
  16. I don't think any player will better Seaver's % any time soon, with the amount of voters it's hard to imagine them all on the same page.
  17. The Rangers reportedly have lured a second player from the Dodgers in as many days. Le Journal de Montreal reports that former Dodgers closer Eric Gagne has agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal with Texas. The Rangers reached a preliminary agreement on a one-year, $6 million contract with former Dodgers center fielder Kenny Lofton on Monday.
  18. Well Bagwell gets a $7 million buyout for 07,after making $16 million last year....nice work.
  19. Begwell expected to announce retirement this week,Astros working on a post-career deal for him.
  20. metsmarathon wrote: but then, if that were the case, you wouldn't have signed him to be your agent. if you were all about the dollar, then you would. Zito...
  21. Boras has a way with words.... ] "In Japan, he's known as the national treasure," Boras told some three dozen media representatives -- nearly all representing Japanese outlets. "Here, he will be known as Fort Knox." Great name to add pressure to D-Mat.
  22. And now with Maz joining SNY that's two.
  23. MFS62 wrote: I wonder if they'll give the turncoat a reversible blazer to wear when on camera. Later That's a bit rough don't you think...did Maz ever turn his back on the Mets to take a job with the MFY?
  24. Welcome back Lee....
  25. duan wrote: here's the thing; there was an argument SOMEWHERE that Boras could try to buy Matsuka out of his contract for $XX million if this negotiation fails and then argue that he's a free agent and go from there. the whole process is a mess; I think as much because of the sealed bid/contract element being separate. WOW,to the high court we will go....now that would be a mess...
