  4. From Lennon's blog , nothing good. ] Here is the updated medical information on Billy Wagner This doesn't sound like great news. The Mets just released this brief statement on Wagner's examination this morning: Billy Wagner was re-evaluated today at New Yorks Hospital for Special Surgery. He continues to have swelling and pain in his elbow. He will need additional rest before he can resume throwing. We'll see what Wagner has to say about this latest development when the clubhouse opens this afternoon. Looks like the Mets are going to need a contingency plan for the immediate future.
  5. ] Sirius XM Satellite Radio introduced Chris Russo Tuesday morning as its newest personality -- complete with a 24-hour a day sports talk channel for which he will serve as executive producer. Russo, 48, left WFAN Thursday, ending his 19-year partnership with Mike Francesa, and signed with Sirius on Monday afternoon. Russo will host a show from 2-7 p.m. weekdays, working without a partner, that will debut on Sept. 15. He will host preview shows before that, including one from the U.S. Open tennis tournament. The full slate of talk shows on his channel will be announced in the fall. Russo said he is unconcerned about appealing to a national audience. "I'll make this work," he said. Russo added, "I thought I was a little stale the last couple of years. I almost look at this as the second half of my career." ] Chris "Mad Dog" Russo, former star of the "Mike and the Mad Dog" show, has signed a five-year contract to headline a new sports talk channel available on both Sirius and XM satellite radio, the company announced this morning. Russo, who helped popularize the sports talk format, made national news recently when he left his popular show. Sirius channel 123 and XM channel 144 will relaunch as Mad Dog Radio, a reformatted channel that will include sports talk, interviews, news and broadcasts of sporting events. Russo will host the channel's anchor program, "The Mad Dog Sports Show," which will begin airing on Sept. 15. It will be the first original show available both on Sirius and XM.

  15. Astronauts Mike Massimino (r.) and Mike Good. Massimino holds up the home plate used at Shea Stadium for the 2007 season. ] Yankees sent dirt into space - now, Shea Stadium plate headed for orbit BY RICHARD SISK DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU Sunday, August 17th 2008, 9:30 PM WASHINGTON - The Yankees-Mets rivalry has really hit new heights. Months after a Bomber-loving astronaut carried some dirt from Yankee Stadium into orbit, a Mets fan has upped the ante and will take a home plate from Shea into space this October. The home plate from the 2007 season was given by the Mets to Mike Massimino to fuel his rivalry with fellow astronaut and Yankees fan Garrett Reisman of Morristown, N.J. Reisman carried dirt from the Yankee Stadium pitcher's mound on the shuttle Endeavour mission in March. "We can do better than that, pal," said Massimino, 46, of Franklin Square, L.I. "We're flying a home plate from Shea." Massimino's passion for the Mets competes with his life's work as an astronaut to the point where he ranks NASA's feat in landing men on the moon in 1969 equal to the Mets' first World Series victory later that same year. "I would say the moon landing was right up there with the Mets in the World Series," said Massimino, who took along a Mets jersey emblazoned with the name of relief pitcher John Franco on his previous space flight in 2002. So it came as no surprise to the Mets' front office that after Reisman went into orbit with Yankee dirt, Massimino came calling. The Mets arranged to give Massimino the home plate, he said, "but the deal is that I have to bring it back." Massimino will carry the plate aboard the shuttle Atlantis on a risky mission to repair the Hubble telescope, where he will be the primary spacewalker. When Reisman went aloft he carried a Yankees banner, a cap autographed by George Steinbrenner and the dirt. The items were given to the spaceman by Roger Clemens before a game at the Stadium in 2007. Broadcast on the Yankee Stadium JumboTron, Reisman made baseball history by throwing a ceremonial first pitch from outer space for a game in April against the Red Sox.
