  1. Would Tim Wakefield be fair to look at and compare? Here's the coin he made through the years http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/wakefti01.shtml
  2. I'd want him pitching the clinching game for my team.
  3. Edgy DC wrote: Eighth-inning guy. Duh. We need to know first if he feels comfortable in the eight inning, can he get up for it?
  4. Heyman SI_JonHeyman #jays asked #mets for top OF prospect kirk nieuwenhuis plus another for scott downs. mets saying no on nieuwenhuis Good , wtf would we want Downs?
  5. Edgy DC wrote: Trading for another starter, a la Ted Lilly, would likely hurt more than it helps. I agree, for me he's not a difference maker , not on this Mets team at least. I don't know that there is any one player on the market that would make the difference.
  6. For a resurgent team he's a nice addition, should make for a great race between the Phillies and the Braves.
  7. Oswalt to the Phillies just about done according to my various internet sources , and yes, you can quote me on that and this.
  8. WOW.....ah , I guess we won't get that 2 wins in a row thingy going tonight
  9. WOW....it's all gone pear shaped on the mound and the field. 5-0
  10. Johan looks decidedly human tonight .
  11. Great read , I thought Woods did a good job of setting the stage and talking us through K-Rod's outing that day. I was feeling a little pumped actually. Is Whiteside the goat here or is Frankie that smart a pitcher?, if he is that smart then I don't think I have been giving him the credit he might deserve , 'cos he never seems to have a fastball. Thanks for the link.
  12. Yeah. But what gutless POS he was for us (I know, he was hurt allatime). One afternoon I was out back cutting the grass listening to Benson fail to get out of the 2nd inning agaisnt the Expos or something, and thinking: Could I hate a Met starter any more? (bravely hits submit before verifying that such a game ever happened) This game perhaps http://leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=6089
  13. 07/26/2004 David Wright hit his first Met home run in Montreal , opposing pitcher was John Patterson .It was a crazy game with the Expos winning 19-10.....yes , 19-10. Look t that Mets team , geez but those were the days. http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=6834&tabno=A then 07/30/2004 Scott Kazmir traded to the Devil Rays more interesting looking back though was the trade for Benson July 30, 2004: Traded by the New York Mets with Matt Peterson (minors) and Ty Wigginton to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Kris Benson and Jeff Keppinger. Jose Bautista and Wiggy were All-Stars this year. Bautista is having a huge breakout year this season, I have no memory of him in the Mets system, was he on anyones radar? Not posting this saying we should have kept Bautista , just looking back at history is all

They supposedly had a couple of offers out, at the same time, on guys like Molina and Piniero, which had they accepted would've been a decent boost in payroll over what they have now. Hard to believe they were bluffing those guys. I believe none of the nonsense floated in the offseason about the Mets allegedly making offers to this guy or that. I think a lot of that is crap floated by agents to drive up the price on whatever teams are actually talking seriously. Pineiro and Molina both confirmed that they had offers from the Mets, well after signing. either way, it's certainly more evidence than "someone told me that the Mets may not possibly be able to spend because of the possibility that they may have lost an undisclosed amount of money from Madoff" Really though, I don't think it is. Either the Mets evaluated what they thought the guy was worth and didn't offer him any more, or they evaluated what they thought the guy was worth and lowballed him because they were broke. Believe what you want to believe, but that's not evidence in my book. I'm perfectly happy they didn't up their bid on Benjie Molina. As am I. But if both players were to sign the contracts that were offered, the Mets payroll would be higher than it is now. More than Lily higher for example. So to say the Mets cannot afford to add a player would seem to me to be not true. All the quoting here makes my eyes sore.
  16. Tony LaRussa is a genius , if you don't believe me just ask him.

Lol, obviously Bay is having a poor season but I hate to see go on the DL with a concussion, who knows how long this will linger. I almost want him to go on the DL, because that would help keep it from lingering. say he feels better tomorrow, they sit him the rest of the series to be sure, and he plays Friday and ends up jostling his head again and feels it? Yeah , fair enough point.

  19. Lennon @lenno212: Takahashi's start pushed back to 31st - trade deadline. A move in works? #mets
  20. Gotta keep Chip Hale, the rest can go.
  21. Is that done cos Heyman says Francoeur will go too and Guillen comes back with Meche, Castillo part of talks too.
