I liked the headline in a Philly newspaper after the club brought back the players from the 1980 WS team, Rose gets into it with a female reporter who had asked him about the rape , he was dismissive and called her babe , anyway the healine was ROSE COMES OUT OF EXILE LONG ENOUGH TO REMIND US WHY HE WAS THERE IN THE FORST PLACE

A four episode doc looking at Pete Rose on MAX. Rose as ever doesn't help himself, it's an interesting watch though , with Rose though you never know if he's telling the truth or telling lies,and that is central to this doc. The statuary rape is brought up and Rose's answers are infuriating. Not many ex teammates are interviewed, two I think, I thought that was interesting. Rose I think still doesn't get it and the doc shows it

Exactly, this is happening a lot in European soccer too, Lucas Paqueta has been found guilty of betting on himself to get booked in games for his team West Ham United, he could not only cost himself a huge $$$ move to Manchester City ,but now might be banned for life , euro soccer is rife with betting companies

I'll admit I'm not much of a Tim Burton fan, this bombed IIRC , probably didn't help that Independence Day was same year , a movie that took things seriously, while Mars Attacks didn't, big cast , lots of weird stuff. I don't think I would ever watch it again, a five for me

I think as a movie it is excellent, with a great cast , Stone's views are dubious though and he's made a whole other career with JFK . 3.5 for me

Streaming now on Netflix. I watched it last night , probably haven't seen it since the 80s a beautifully shot movie about a terrible time in Cambodia's history. Nothing is held back , some gruesome stuff. New York Times reporter Sydney Schanberg (Sam Waterston) is on assignment covering the Cambodian Civil War, with the help of local interpreter Dith Pran (Haing S. Ngor) and American photojournalist Al Rockoff (John Malkovich). When the U.S. Army pulls out amid escalating violence, Schanberg makes exit arrangements for Pran and his family. Pran, however, tells Schanberg he intends to stay in Cambodia to help cover the unfolding story -- a decision he may regret as the Khmer Rouge rebels move in.
