A fun carny-ride on a first pass, but it doesn't hang together NEARLY as well as the book on a revisit. Yes, I think he would make this movie so he can make the other ones?
  3. Ceetar wrote: I read this one, and enjoyed it. I don't think I saw the film but I can't remember now. Dennis Lehane's excellent book , really liked that , the movie IIRC was enjoyable.
  4. This thread is better than the movie IIRC . Watched it in Ireland with Lorcan and two Aussie kids, none of them were impressed with the movie
  5. I enjoyed it , some good performances
  6. Creed sat on my DVR for a year and I finally watched it last night , glad I did, enjoyed it more than I expected
  7. Really liked this , I was all in on Oasis growing up in Ireland , made some great music, really liked the insight to the writing of "Talk Tonight ", absolutely love that song . B-side compilation album, The Masterplan is really worth checking out . The whole thing with their dad showing up at THe Point in Dublin made for tabloid fodder in Ireland at the time .
  8. Going to watch this at the weekend
  9. Agree with this , especially on Hardy, he is brilliant in most anything. Ever see The Drop?
  10. Skellig Michael looked great , overall I liked the movie , I'm not a Star Wars nut but I def enjoyed the whole thing
  11. I really ,really like this movie, watched it twice and it was better the second time
  12. On Netflix , a brilliant documentary on current cardiac care, really, this knowledge could save your life http://widowmakerthemovie.com/
  13. I am sure this is what we thought all Yanks were like growing up in Ireland of the late 70's early 80's....it still pulls in the tourists apparently ... Mary Kate Danaher, what a name .
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Complete piece of shit. Awful. Worst father-son bonding flick since "Over the Top." Review of the year
  15. Saw it on the plane over from Ireland, fell short and a bit force fed, as mentioned the twitter placement was a lot but that's how these trucks roll, kind of hated that after finding himself with the truck he then.........well, see it for yourself.
  16. Went to see it last night, very enjoyable.
  17. Very sad, I saw Dead Poet's Society a few months back after not seeing it in years, still brilliant , it is in those performances i liked him best.
  18. themetfairy wrote: It's beautiful, but ultimately a bore. It just didn't engage me. this , I was so looking forward to seeing this that maybe the expectation killed it for me.
  19. Watching this now, have not seen it in years, had forgotten what a gem of a movie this is Director David Fincher followed the success of his dark and atmospheric crime thriller Seven (1995) with another exercise in stylish film noir, this time lifting the pallid atmosphere a notch to indulge in a fast-paced trip through the cinematic funhouse. Michael Douglas plays Nicholas Van Orton, a Scrooge-like San Francisco investment banker following in his father's Scrooge-like footsteps. On Nicholas's 48th birthday (the age at which his father committed suicide), his younger, free-spirited brother Conrad (Sean Penn) blows into town and gives Nicholas a special gift for "the man who has everything" -- a ticket to CRS (Consumer Recreation Services), a company that constructs games custom-fit for each participant to provide, as CRS salesman Jim Feingold (James Rebhorn) cryptically puts it, "whatever is lacking." Nicholas's secure life begins a downhill slide as CRS masterminds a series of elaborate pranks, harmless at first, that quickly become malicious and life-threatening. Stripped of financial resources and convinced that he can trust no one, Nicholas begins to wonder if CRS is a front for a more covert operation, and if the game is in fact an attempt to steal his fortune and leave him for dead. Determined to fight back alone, Nicholas infiltrates CRS in order to "pull back the curtain and meet the wizard." ~ Anthony Reed, Rovi
  20. Kickboxing is the sport of the future sir....... few things were more cheesy in the 80's than the boombox being held aloft ....if memory serves I quite enjoyed this film.
  21. Christ, the tension at the end between NY and Derry was intense ..... Have to say I enjoyed this immensely, never mind the awful makeup the kids and people involved more than made up for it.
  22. California Joe had that cool about him didn't he?, he knew he was great, his coach knew it and he killed his set.....you could tell watching that he was brilliant. Loved seeing Birmingham John come though, nice moment.
  23. Hard not to feel for the Sri Lankan kid from Holland, when he says it is all he has and it keeps him out of trouble....shit is real.
  24. Half way through, enjoying it more than I thought...makes sense that the Russians are joyless, it's what we believe about them.....but great to see them at it.....I like the young kid from Birmingham ....I grew up in Tipperary where Irish dancing was huge, I never remember all this awful makeup etc. How about the family that relocated to Birmingham from California? dad gave up mutli million dollar homes and a medical practice to move to one of the most depressed cities in England.
  25. Going to watch later.....
