  2. I'll rescind the vote...I tend to agree with the point. He did play a valuable role in the game on more than one occasion, and he is a player rather than a coach or manager...but his, as well as other players' contributions on the bench, probably happen more often than we ever see anyway and our votes should probably be confined to the numbers in the boxscore. I'll switch his .5 vote to Bradford on edit.
  3. Beltran 1 Martinez 1 Wright 1 Delgado 1 LoDuca 1 Floyd 1 Nady 1 Sanchez 1 Reyes 1 Bradford 1
  4. Beltran blasts bomb for the boo birds... no curtain call...good for him. on edit - Julio made him give one
  5. Hernandez is a waste of a lineup spot. He's the new Rey.
  6. I agree...make Schneider beat you. Pitcher leading off an inning used to be something golden. Crappy D cost the lead.
  7. Bannister 4 Delgado 1 Nady 1 Hernandez 1 Beltran 1 Heilman 1 Sanchez 1
  8. Looks like Willie lifted the ban on facial hair as most of the lineup has what looks like 3 day growth around their mouths...either that, or they fought over a box of Jello pudding pops in the clubhouse. I'm glad...I hate that rule.
  9. Lots of love to go around... Nady 2 Glavine 2 Lo Duca 2 Wright 2 Wagner 2

    FIVE!!!

  15. No swearing...I've watched maybe 5 full games this spring. Darling is the one who says the most stuff between innings. SNY must know that some feeds don't break during the commercial break because during one of Heilman's starts Darling talked about him before the game during commercial. Said something about how his new delivery really paid off for him, how someone really messed him up his first couple of years in pro ball, and how he's got huge cahones. Then he said, "what we can't say cahones? But, it's cable." Then Gary said, "Only in SAP." and the booth erupted in laughter. When I was young, we had a satellite dish, one of the old fashioned 10 foot tall ones where it took 2 minutes to change the channel while the dish turned. Anyway, we also got to keep the feed during commercials back then, and I remember Mike Schmidt cussing up a storm during the commercial breaks during the 1990 All Star Game. It was quite funny.
  16. Watching the game on MLBTV, I found it interesting that after the inning that they made the Japanese scouting comments, Keith went off during the commercial break: Keith: Why would you bring someone [iriki] to camp that throws like that that? It's just a waste of time. Gary: Because Willie likes the funk. Keith: It's just a waste of time. Gary: Our pitchers have thrown 80 pitches in 3 innings. Keith: That guy couldn't get Molly Putz out. Gary: Who? Keith: Molly Putz After the next inning: Gary: Who's that? Oh, you think? They got Chad Bradford up in the bullpen. That's always exciting. (sigh) Get me to opening day. Let's hope we pitch a little better. Keith: I'm not...I have not been confident with this staff like everybody else is. Gary: Well, the guys who are pitching are not the... Keith: I understand, I'm talking about the other guys too. Commercial free insights into how the announcers really feel...the best thing about MLBTV this spring.
  17. Always starting pitching. I agree with giving Bannister the #5 spot, but only because Heilman is much more valuable in the pen. This rotation is not a playoff rotation, so in order for the Mets to win the division and compete for the championship, Omar is going to have to make a move or two to strengthen the starting 5. The only spot in the lineup that concerns me is the bottom. I can imagine a lot of 1-2-3 innings with Nady - Hernandez - Pitcher. But I don't share those concerns about 1-6 in the order. Willie is going to have to prove he can solve a regular lineup where he is getting the best out of all of his players. The musical lineup card is not going to get it done this year.

    SIX!

    Von Oy!
  19. Pedro looked decent throwing 3 innings of shutout ball. Didn't seem like he was throwing at 100% velocity, but he did mix in all of his pitches but the cut fastball. Leaves the game with a 1-0 lead.

  21. I will be interested to see if the American players take getting ready for the tournament more seriously in '09. I don't think any of them expected this to be as competitive as it was, and if the WBC is played in March again next time, I wonder how many players (or even the team itself) takes much more time preparing. It could be similar to the USA basketball team, which is preparing NOW for the 2008 summer Olympics. Korea, Mexico and even Canada looked much more like machines than these individual cogs. Pundits keep whining about the timing of the game...well, if these guys want to win they may have to cut their 3 month vacation short and prepare better. In their defense, if this was played in November I don't see them losing.
  22. Well, the best thing to do in Milwaukee is Summerfest, which is a 10 day music festival in late June - early August. Walking around downtown is neat, there is some distinctive architecture and the Third Ward is interesting. They have a beautiful zoo and, of course there is the Miller Brewery and a bar every 2 blocks. If you are for coming into town for a Mets game, I would recommend visting The Pfister Hotel in the morning. Not only is it an historic hotel right downtown, but it's also where the Mets stay and if you're into autographs you will see players departing for the game. As previously mentioned, the park is a great place to watch a game, but not really near any of Milwaukee's landmarks or sites to see. Let me know what game you're planning on attending. I plan on seeing one or all of them in Milwaukee and it would be great to meet another Forumite.
  23. Selig is a boob. He spent a half inning not addressing the Bond's situation, or any other relevant question that was asked of him. He uses a lot of words to say absolutely nothing. But, hey, another attendance record...yada, yada, blah, blah, snore.
  24. Korea wins 2-1. Undefeated...who'da thunk?
