  1. Well, I think Ollie will now officially have the fan-ire-target on his back. This one is squarely on him.
  2. Sit down, Votto! Is it Sheff time?
  3. I'm stoked by Stokes' two scoreless. A three run 8th would be awesome.
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: Lots of Gay Dames today (it's like a Lilith Fair broke out in MLB!) Yanx 3 - Os 1 in the 4th (Teixeira & Swisher HRs) Burnett has 5 Ks.
  5. Chipping away. Would like to feel more secure about tying the game.
  6. Stokes works around a Votto (surprise, suprise) hit. Hey, top 'o the order: runs please!
  7. Oh, Ollie! Final line: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 8 ER, 5 BB, 7 K Blech!
  8. I called it after it happened Sac fly plates one as the bottom of the order manufactures a run out of a leadoff double.
  9. Church = doubles machine. Gotta get at least one here.
  10. What a clusterfuck.
  11. Ollie makes me sick.
  12. Great first for Ollie...10 pitches.
  13. FLA 6 WAS 4 is the final as the Nats lose out on a bases-loaded, one out situation in the ninth. I've been doing MLB.TV for a few years and I swear by it. You won't get local games, though...so make sure you check your zip code with their system before ordering. My TV isn't nice enough for Extra Innings.
  14. OO: There was actually a recent SI article about fielding metrics that partially focused on the concerted effort which Seattle made to rebuild quickly through improving their defense, and how Franklin Gutierrez and Endy Chavez were very much their main targets in that 3-way trade over the winter because of their fielding prowess. I saw one of the heads on the MLB network say something similar a few days ago when talking about the Mariners outlook this season. Could have been Verducci...which makes sense.
  15. They're at the stretch in FLA and the sweep-hungry Fish lead the Nats 5 to 2. The final game of the Bravo-Phils series is a gay dame as well which is scheduled to start in about 45 minutes.
  16. As always, the admins do a great job with this site.
  17. Ben Shpigel weighs in: http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/07/ryan-churchs-role-in-2009/ Manuel said the spacious outfield, quirky angles and limited foul territory at Citi Field would make him align his outfielders differently, bunching them toward the gaps. But he also said that he is afraid of Beltran's "weighing 145 pounds" by the end of the season from all the running he'll have to do. Surrounding him with Murphy and Sheffield could make for some, umm, interesting moments out there.

  19. Like Cliff Lee yesterday, defending NL Cy Younger Tim Lincecum was not quite stellar today and was pulled after 3 innings and 78 pitches. He gave up 4 hits, 3 ER, 3 walks and recorded 5 Ks vs. the Brewers. He also hit Ryan Braun with a pitch. The Giants are still winning 4-3 in the top of the 4th. On edit: Lincecum's replacement Joe Martinez has allowed 3 hits and hit a man in the first 5 batters he has faced and the Brewers now lead 5-4 and are still batting with one out.
  20. ="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr"] Caught Murphy's adventures-in-outfielding yesterday? We'll see that a bunch (he was exceedingly lucky). On days when Sheffield is starting in right-- especially Citi right-- and we've got one of the three extreme-flyball pitchers (Santana, Perez, Maine) in our starting rotation going... you'll see that more often. You'll likely want to pluck out your eyes when you do. Beltran's among the best, if not the best, CF in the league and Church's RF is above average IMO. Reed is available in late innings and is advertised to be a fine replacment for Endy. Tatis is average as well. I'm not concerned about Murphy and/or Sheffield's defense enough to list it as a top concern. I'm inclined to think our starters, bullpen, hitters with RISP, 3rd base coach and questionable managerial blunders will each lose us as many games if not more than Murphy/Sheff's defense.
  21. I'm always worried about injuries. Although, this year looks like a younger crop than we've had in a while. Only Delgado, Tatis, Anderson and Sheffield are older than I am. Not that you need to be older to get injured, but I'm guessing it doesn't help the prevention and recovery processes. I think the bullpen and offense can compensate for what I still consider an above average (but not exceptional) starting pitching staff. Outfield defense? Really?
  22. In today's USA Today online crossword: 51A: Yankee rival for ink (3 letters) Most interesting clue I've seen in a while.
  23. Santana 3 Murphy 3 Church 1 Green 1 Putz 1 Rodriguez 1

  25. Already a game up on Philly.
