  1. I for one like the weekend trip to Milwaukee. I was getting sick of taking off work to see the Mets play those 3 games during the week.
  2. I think it has merit. I've never read the book so I don't know how true to the story it is. I saw half of it a year or two ago and found it to be dated as far as the filming is concerned. It looks like it was made in the 90s. Leo DiCaprio gives a good performance. It features Marky Mark in his first true acting role, which is as good as any he's done. Jim Carroll makes a cameo. I remember really enjoying it when it first came out. Kind of a bummer film, but I would watch it again...and probably will. Edgy doesn't like it.
  3. I guess I was unaware that individual players got a WS trophy. I thought it was just a ring for each player and a trophy to the team. If I had a few thousand bucks lying around I would be one of the assholes bidding on this crap.
  4. The scribble on that pic does not look like Elio Chacon.
  5. Santos doesn't get the call on 9/9/09? Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9, Number 9.
  6. Not that any of this could ever happen due to labor disputes, revenue and fan revolt...but if I could magically arrange things the way I wanted to, it would go like this: Contract 2 teams and move an NL team to the AL. This would solve a lot of problems I have with the game. It would thin the talent pool, help balance the schedules and give the ability to realign with even teams in each league. For the sake of this exercise, Washington and KC get axed and Arizona moves to the AL. With these changes, the divisions would go from six to four: NL East: Atlanta, Cincinnati, Florida, Milwaukee, NY Mets, Philly, Pittsburgh NL West: Cubs, Colorado, Dodgers, Houston, San Diego, San Fran, St. Louis AL East: Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, NY Yanks, Tampa, Toronto NL West: Anaheim, Arizona, Minnesota, Oakland, Seattle, Texas, White Sox Each team plays their division opponents 15 times per year, non-division intra league opponents 9 times per year and only 3 interleague series per team. For interleague, there would be one series vs. your "natural rival" (i.e. Mets/Yanks) and the other two teams played would be based on who mirrored your division standing at the end of the previous season (i.e. the 4th place NL East team would play a series vs. the 4th place AL East team and a series vs. the 4th place AL West team). Home field would alternate each year for division, league and interleague opponents. I would expand the Wild Card to 2 teams per league based on best-record of non-division winners. Division winners would still get home field advantage over non-division winners followed by best record to determine home field. The team with the best record would get home field advantage in the World Series. The All-Stars would be voted upon by players, coaches and managers rather than fans. It would be a true exhibition game and have no bearing on anything other than pride. The WBC would be moved to November rather than March. As much as I hate the DH, it would be impossible to remove at this point...more impossible than anything above. I don't hate not having a salary cap, so that would stay the same as well.
  7. Rented it last week. Thought it would be funnier than it was. In my mind it turned out to be a long romantic flick with characters that I didn't really care about. Nice soundtrack, though.
  8. So this means 60% of our Top 5 ranked Mets players of all time will have served jail time. Bad Ass.
  9. I'm a sucker for career guys with one team, so: Todd Helton Jeff Bagwell Cal Ripken Tony Gwynn And Larry has grown on me over the years with all of his time in Atlanta.
  10. 1 Angel Pagan 2 Jeff Francoeur 3 Luis Castillo 4 Daniel Murphy 5 Fernando Tatis Not the top five for August I would have guessed back in March.
  11. I always forget how consistently good Todd Helton is. One of my favorite non-Mets players in the league.
  12. I hat baseball.
  13. I don't know what to expect, but I'm hoping that the offense from yesterday will show up so it won't really matter.
  14. Is it too early to start speculating about Bobby V. coming back as well? I dont hate Jerry, but I'd welcome Bobby back with open arms. I guess a lot of changes would need to be made in order for this to happen. At this point I'm all for change, though.
  15. I've got $47 in my wallet right now. Let's pool our resources and make him an offer.
  16. Ahh, the Cubs...if the Mets were competing for anything, I'd be in Chicago this weekend. ="LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr":1ri8iclf]Thanks for the bracing brew, TM.[/quote:1ri8iclf] Not me...kudos to Swannie. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 28 2009 07:33 AM ="seawolf17"]Between the hot dogs and Lou Malnati's, I'd gain 100 pounds if I moved to Chicago. Malnati's sits in your stomach like overfed leadshot. But agreed about the dogs. I like kraut... I love sport peppers. Gwreck Aug 28 2009 08:36 AM Yabbut, who needs Chicago anymore? You can get an authentic Chicago dog at our own Shake Shack now. --- Nice KTE. Vic Sage Aug 28 2009 11:00 AM this whole KTE is a BOC.
  17. Only the 4th time this season the Mets have scored 10 runs or more. First time since July 25th.
  18. ="metirish":1jphpnav]"Hey ....fans , Dad's been working out...."[/quote:1jphpnav] The starting leftfielder for your 2010 New York Mets. Ashie62 Aug 26 2009 05:29 PM Can they replace the inaugural patch with a Red Cross patch? LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 05:33 PM Well, hey-- meltdown averted. With a 400-foot out to the deepest part of the park, but still. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 05:41 PM Four hits, two runs, two innings? MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. PiggiesTomatoes Aug 26 2009 05:45 PM Did Pelfrey just pull up crossing first? Looked like a calf. Hope I'm wrong. PiggiesTomatoes Aug 26 2009 05:45 PM Yeah, wrong! PiggiesTomatoes Aug 26 2009 05:46 PM ="metirish"]"Hey ....fans , Dad's been working out...." Looks like Dad's on a box or maybe tippy toes. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 06:14 PM Just. Throw. Strikes. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 06:20 PM GUH. After giving in to Cody Ross, he walks both the 7th and 8th hitter. The pitcher, mercifully, grounds out to end the inning. All with two outs... while Pelf pitched from the stretch. Helpful hint from a relative layman: if you aren't very good at working from the stretch, DON'T WORK FROM THE STRETCH WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO SO. metirish Aug 26 2009 06:29 PM Oh now I'm going to cry , what with Kase and the Buckhardt story about Tatis I'm slobbering. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 06:47 PM BOOM. Upper-decker breaks the tie. But, to be fair, that's what happens when you leave it up to the #8 hitting, sub-.400 slugging catcher. You get PUNISHED. metirish Aug 26 2009 06:47 PM Ronny Paufuckinglino takes Big useless Pelfrey yard LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 06:54 PM Muffy with the leadoff double-- or as we say in Metland, "Flushing Dinger"-- sets things up for Francoeur. A "productive strikeout"-- wild pitch-- advances Muff to third with one out. I hope he brought a book. EDIT: Well, F me, then. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 07:02 PM KEITH, APROPOS OF NOTHING: "Josh Johnson can tow my plow anytime." LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 07:09 PM One out gotten, Ramirez given the free pass to set up a DP. And on a 3-1 count, Cantu swings hard... and grounds to Tatis, who throws to Castillo, who turns... it to sh*t, with Murphy's help. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 07:37 PM 1-2-3 for the Mets in the top of the 8th. This Matt Lindstrom fellow is quite good. Live fastball, sharp slider... where the heck do the Fish get guys like this? LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 26 2009 07:40 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Aug 26 2009 07:41 PM Up for the Mets in the 8th... Takahashi-Maru. (The no-win bullpen scenario.) Rockin' Doc Aug 26 2009 08:27 PM metirish - "I am switching back and forth to Nova on PBS , they have a show on black holes." That must be like watching a retrospective of the Mets 2009 season.
  19. Giambi gets minor league deal with Rox. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-rockies-giambi&prov=ap&type=lgns
  20. In Murphy's defense, he is still very inexperienced at the professional level. David Wright had more minor league plate appearances before he was called up to the majors than Murphy has had minor and major league combined. Wright's minor league career: 1675 PA, 1419 AB, 409 H, 111 2B, 48 HR, 242 RBI, 302 K, .288/.387/.474/.861 Murphy's minor+major league career: 1634 PA, 1450 AB, 411 H, 91 2B, 35 HR, 214 RBI, 195 K, .283/.347/.431/.778 Now, I don't believe that Murphy will ever be Wright, but he is still very young and can still progress to better than we've seen this season. I'm not ready to pencil him in at any position either, but I'm not ready to call him Joe McEwing or Matt Franco just yet.
