  1. deGrom doesn't give up a single run tonight -- or even a hit, but wont get the Win as he's pulled after four innings with his first place Rangers up 4-0 over the Royals. To be updated.
  2. Love that combination sleeve patch concept. /rollseyes. Maybe the Mets'll do a combo patch for their city connect uni, too, of the NY Presbyterian Hospital main building but with a gigantic Mr. Met head impaled on the building's flagpole. And on the inside of the uni, there could be an embroidery of Mo Vaughn and Daniel Vogelbach wolfing down a Domino's pizza pie because nothing evokes Citi Field like Domino's pizza. It's all about the symbolism. And then, last but most importantly, most important, one singular jigsaw puzzle piece. I say last because that's the last piece of the puzzle "symbolizing" the Mets human last piece to the puzzle, Gary Carter , who singlehandedly won a World Series for the Mets before he ever put on his Mets uniform. Or eight jigsaw puzzle pieces symbolizing Carter's Met uniform number, which hasn't been issued in about 20 years, the most puzzling thing in Mets franchise history.
  3. =kcmets post_id=122661 time=1681755600 user_id=53] That, and why are people so interested to talk about a non-and-never- gonna-be-a-Met-thank-god douchebag for seven pages.

  6. Francisco Lindor is leading all major leaguers in defensive bWAR and all major league position players in total bWAR. The only major leaguers with a higher total bWAR than Lindor are all pitchers (Cole, Ohtani, Freeland and Ashcraft). https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2023-batting-leaders.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2023-batting-leaders.shtml
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Kingman is the only guy on that list besides Strawberry who is a former franchise leader. Yes. The list is pretty much Dave Kingman and eight guys who never caught up to Darryl Strawberry. That's real quirky. But not as quirky as no Met ever winning the league MVP award.
  8. The Mets all-time HR record is extremely underwhelming for a 60 year old franchise.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Beyond that, whenever we use [decade in the past] as an analog, we are referencing an era that was not governed by the clock. That's right. But why bother with a clock back then when games were shorter, pitchers took about 10 seconds to throw a pitch and batters didnt use up a minute in between every pitch invoking their mantras and readjusting every item of apparel and equipment on their bodies?
  10. I posted many times that it would mainly be a pitch clock that would bring games back to 80s and even maybe 70s time-of-game levels. To me, this was so obvious if I may, for once, toot my own horn. All you hadda do is to watch one or two innings of a 50 year old game on youtube to see this. Back then, the pitcher got the ball and within 10 seconds, was throwing a pitch. The whole game was played at that pace.
  11. =whippoorwill post_id=122536 time=1681684607 user_id=79] Well max is probably toast
  12. ... and speaking of the 1973 baseball season, it's deja vu all over again. The Mets are on a four game winning streak but haven't gained a single game -- or even half a game -- on the first place Braves during their streak as the Braves are on a six game winning streak of their own.
  13. https://twitter.com/sigg20/status/1647694977756016641 Thanks Kase You gotta define 'prime' because by some definitions, I think Gooden's "prime" was better than Seaver's.
  14. If Vogelbach didn't beat out that throw to first to thwart the potential double play, he would've made all three outs in the inning.

  17. Tue A's current unis go back almost 40 years to the Tony Larussa McGwire Canseco Eck squads, back when the A's and Davey Johnson's Mets were the best teams in baseball. Also, Fosse and Tenace have virtually identical batting stances.
  18. Bill North's Earl Scheib job didnt exactly conceal his Cubs uniform. Sloppy crop. Also, I was certain last year that the '73 Mets would be celebrated this year. But so far, no 50th anniversary patch. And no Old-Timer's game. How Wilponian.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: [FIMG=170]https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/31YAAOxy63FS-DpC/s-l1600.jpg[/FIMG] That Rob Gardner card is him in a Mets uniform with an Earl Scheib paint job, right? Doubtful. Gardner had played for several organizations in between his Mets and A's stints. A photo of Gardner in a Met uni would've been at least six years old when Topps designed his '73 card -- not necessarily unprecedented but by '72 or '73, Topps wasn't using six or seven year old photos anymore. And Gardner's photo for his '73 card was take at a Spring Training facility. Back then, Spring Training photos that made it onto actual Topps card were taken at the home facility of the player being photographed. And the background of that card looks nothing like Miller-Huggins or the Payson Complex where the Mets spring trained back then.
  20. A rarely used baseball rule, discussed here last year, was applied in last night's A's-O's game. Reliever and ex-Met Jeurys Familia was in line for the "vulture win" last night after getting the last two outs of the 7th inning but giving up the tying run in the process. The A's then scored three runs to take a lead they wouldnt relinquish for the rest of the game in the following half inning. A's reliever Chad Smith pitched the last two scoreless innings to seal the A's victory ----and was credited with the statistical pitcher's win. The official scorer determined that Familia's outing was brief and ineffective and so did not award Familia with the win that a reliever similarly situated would typically receive.
  21. Maybe the Giants'll reinstate Edgardo Alfonzo to pinch hit a grand slam tonight for them or something.
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: So for all our worrying so far (not all of it unjustified) they've won three series out of four played so far this season so things can't be considered a total disaster. OK so that one series loss was a disaster (two of the three games anyway) and they've already burned more than half of their games vs the Marlins for the year. But, still, any series win is a nice thing to have so let's take it and move on. I'm not saying anything is a disaster, yet, (other than Diaz's injury) but that stuff about winning series always rang empty for me. I mean, if a team wins every series, that's one thing, and a good thing, But this season, so far, the Mets are 3-1 in series, yet only one game over .500. It's the games, not the series. Just like winning "two out of three" drives me fucking nuts. So what's a team to do after they've won the first two games of a series? Lose the third game on purpose? Take its' foot off the gas pedal a bit? Relax? To fulfill the two out of three stupid meme because it already won two games?
  23. Edgy MD wrote: I like Fergie's plan. If it's my dream, I want myself to be in there. Me, Walter Johnson, Leroy "Satchel" Paige , Tom Seaver, and Sandy Koufax. Good call on Satchel. Didn't think of him. Now I want him on my rotation.

  25. Oh, I see. He drove in nine last night, not four. I know Eddie Murray had that record. There was a Donruss Highlights baseball card memorializing Murray's feat.
