  1. I came across this odd Mets poster on the web of a purported all-time Mets team: [FIMG=611]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52956563304_0f865021c3_h.jpg[/FIMG] Ray Knight and Lenny Dykstra are among the all-time Mets featured on the poster. I might get that if the poster was from maybe 1989 but the short-haired Jacob deGrom is on the poster so the poster can't be older than 2018
  2. Buck gone before Vogey? I'll take the "No way" on that one.
  3. The Rangers may indeed have been able to insure deGrom but I cant read the article because of the paywall. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/12/03/sports/injury-protection-included-jacob-degroms-big-money-deal-with-texas/https://www.bostonglobe.com/2022/12/03/sports/injury-protection-included-jacob-degroms-big-money-deal-with-texas/ This is weird. I can read the article through this forum but not through my smartphone browser. Anyway, that headline is misleading. The article doesn't mention insurance. Instead it appears that deGrom's contract might get reduced if he sustains certain injuries and/or is sidelined for a certain period of time.

  5. =ashie62 post_id=127767 time=1686090614 user_id=90] The Texas Rangers did not, could not insure the contract? Source is the local abc sports guy
  6. There's no way deGrom's Ranger contract was insurable, I don't think. The Rangers are gonna pretty much eat deGrom's contract.

  9. Lefty Specialist wrote: This is a team that's just out of synch. It seems every time they start to get it going, they stall out. Pitchers have good games followed by bad games. Hitters are going into funks. The good people in the bullpen are being overused and the rest of them just suck. So after 60 games, they're just spinning their wheels. The Diaz injury really hurts. Not only was Diaz historically great last year, but he was also one of the very best relievers in baseball the year before. Diaz's presence would have eliminated the worst reliever from the rotation. That's a huge gap in value - swapping Diaz for whoever is the least effective Mets reliever. Marte's off. Lindor's under .220 and not doing enough offensively to compensate for that and especially, taking at-bats from the very top of the lineup. And like I said, McNeil this year is a singles hitter with virtually no power. His isolated power is practically non-existent. His 2023 is a repeat of his disappointing 2021 season, except that his BA is somewhat better this year. If you looked at his 2021 and 2023 season stats, you'd never imagine that he could sandwich a batting title in between.
  10. So what do the A's have to do to outworse the '62 Mets? If they finish 41-121, they'll have lost more games than that Mets squad but will have finished with a better W-L percentage. 40-122 is indisputably worse.
  11. So how often have the Mets homered four times yet scored only four runs in a game? Five games with four solo homers and no other scoring, all losses. This was the fifth. Wrote up the first four in 2019,last time it happened. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/04/22/cant-any-bunny-here-play-this-game/http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/04/22/cant-any-bunny-here-play-this-game/ I knew you'd be the one to respond. Didnt figure it'd be so quick, though. For this quick an answer, I would've guessed Grimm and his database. Did the Mets ever do this homering five times in a game?

  13. =ashie62 post_id=127532 time=1685894330 user_id=90] Canha gets a bump. Baty and Vogelbach sit against the leftie and Jeff gets dropped No day off for the big boys
  14. =ashie62 post_id=127526 time=1685886769 user_id=90] Anybody think Pete should get a day?
  15. Hey! Met Hunter has my avatar. I feel honored. Unless that's a computer glitch.

  17. Luis Guillorme's "incredible play". https://www.milb.com/syracuse/video/luis-guillorme-s-incredible-playhttps://www.milb.com/syracuse/video/luis-guillorme-s-incredible-play This video has been lingering in my news feed for about a week and nobody's yet posted it here.
  18. My John Sullivan memory is buying a minty condition copy of his 1967 Topps Mets card on lower Broadway from a sidewalk vendor for one dollar about 30 years ago. That card is a "high number" and worth hundreds of dollars today depending on its condition. I guess the seller didn't know. It was probably worth about five or maybe 10 bucks when I bought it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/384784640870?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-222657-2056-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=384784640870&targetid=&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9004359&poi=&campaignid=18943809114&mkgroupid=&rlsatarget=&abcId=9303523&merchantid=223143695&gclid=CjwKCAjwyeujBhA5EiwA5WD7_cyVftXia-EVLFi7dmkaWXIXi6DkkzKjY5USIR5k4sDH2-5iEL7mmBoCLYUQAvD_BwEhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/384784640870?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-222657-2056-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=384784640870&targetid=&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9004359&poi=&campaignid=18943809114&mkgroupid=&rlsatarget=&abcId=9303523&merchantid=223143695&gclid=CjwKCAjwyeujBhA5EiwA5WD7_cyVftXia-EVLFi7dmkaWXIXi6DkkzKjY5USIR5k4sDH2-5iEL7mmBoCLYUQAvD_BwE Sullivan was a one-year Met and caught, among others, the rookie Tom Seaver. Was made expendable next season when the Mets promoted Duffy Dyer and got J.C. Martin in the Tommie Agee trade.
  19. =metirish post_id=127415 time=1685822325 user_id=72] Well Ed only got a new kidney, Steve looks like he got a new face

  21. Hojo's had like ten times the Mets career that Gary Carter had. But Carter 's number is in mothballs and supposed to get retired?
  22. =ashie62 post_id=127304 time=1685736641 user_id=90] I guess you could make a case for removing McNeil from the three hole. Maybe he could use some time in the two hole
  23. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: They are said to have a fearsome offense but aren't doing any better than the Mets this year. In fact both clubs are 30-27. Sounds like Jeff McNeil. What's happening with him this season? He's having a decent season but it's all singles. This year, he's a light hitting singles hitter with no kind of power and with a decent command of the strike zone. He's kinda killing the Mets from the #3 hole.
