  1. I currently have only three bobbles. A Seaver (ugly, but priceless), a Kiner-Murphy (just love it) and a Mr. Met. Have a Cespedes Gnome in the box if anyone wants it. Free + postage. (are we wading into new thread territory while awaiting tonight's IGT?) I have plenty of the Mets giveaway bobbleheads, though I haven't acquired one in five, maybe even ten years. I think that the Kiner-Murphy bobble is the best one ever released, at least from the standpoint of actually resembling the subjects they purport to represent. I would think we should definitely be concerned that he game back from that injury WAY too quickly. You know, that's a thought. That's what I've been thinking, too. He was in a hurry to get back because he was on a pace to hit about 60 HRs before he got hurt and wanted back in real soon, mainly for personal goals. My theory/guess is that he was still hurt when he returned but that the source of his pain wasn't showing up on the diagnostics and so he was able to fool the Mets into coming back prematurely. Or maybe he didn't fool the Mets and the Mets were complicit given the sports culture of rushing players back from injury.
  3. Seven out of nine. Fucking Rays. Had a great rarity score going on, too. [FIMG=555]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53056723613_fb08258532_z.jpg[/FIMG]
  4. I dunno. This schadenfreude doesn't resonate with me. They're over .500, six games better than the Mets and only 2.5 games out of a wild card spot. Meanwhile the Mets are not only blowing a chance at post-season play this season, but more importantly and with more long-term implications, Shohei Ohtani.

  6. That Pirates logo is incredible. Of those logos, I think of the Pirates logo more than any of the others. I'm not necessarily saying it's the best of the bunch, but I miss it the most and I think of it everytime the Mets play the Pirates and I see their more modern logo. Which I dislike. [FIMG=222]https://content.sportslogos.net/logos/54/71/full/uorovupw0jagctt6iu1huivi9.png[/FIMG] The newer logos tend to be fiercer, angrier. I prefer the more innocent, Eisenhower era friendly logos. I miss the old (other Pirate) Buccaneers logo, too. It's exactly the kind of personal touch that was completely missing in the early years of CitiField where being in the stadium showed almost no indication of which team called it home.

  11. Nimmo's on a mashing tear. Six HRs in his last 14 games. Plus two that he just missed. One in yesterday's game and a 425+ foot blast in Philly just before the ASG break that couldn't quite clear the part of the outfield wall that was 20 or 25 feet high.
  12. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Cards Orioles is all-star Immaculate Gridder Todd Zeile From those baseball card threads I used to post, I've got six players that were one-time Mets and played for a lot of teams. That's part of my strategy: to work through those players when I'm stuck, though I haven't had to put up any of those four players as an answer yet using this method. The four players are Todd Zeile, as you mentioned, Latroy Hawkins, already noted in this thread, Octavio Dotel, Bartolo Colon, Bruce Chen and Jesse Orosco. Actually, I once used Orosco for an Imgrid answer, but I wasn't stuck or working through this methodology. The answer came to me immediately because one of the rows/columns was Cardinals and I remember once making a custom Orosco Cardinal baseball card for a baseball card thread because Orosco was a Card only briefly and there is no real Card card for Orosco, as far as I remember.

I wasn't entirely certain that Vada Pinson played for the Royals but took a chance anyways. He did. Pinson, that is. Also, my first thought for Cards 300 game winner was Bob Gibson, but I didn't put Gibby up as an answer because I assumed that he would've been the most popular answer for that box and I was going for a low rarity score. So Carlton, instead, whom I would've preferred to use for Indians 300 game winner for rarity score purposes. Turned out that Gibby was short of 300 wins, someone here posted.
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Obviously, he gives a shit. Save your breath, he obviously can't help himself. What puzzles me is that posters here think this behavior is ok. No. What's puzzling -- what annoys the shit out of me to no end -- is that you could obsess on me and abuse me for at least ten years running before I ever retaliated and without any poster ever saying anything. Get a life. The Mets are scheduled to play 162 regular season games -- like every other normal baseball season. What do you? Need for the Mets to play all 162 games in one week? Get a life. Or just pretend that there was a rain-out yesterday. A whole thread to complain that the Mets had an off day? Do you hafta write posts even when there's nothing to write about? At least you didn't also start this thread with some stupid Spinal Tap-like song.

  17. There Should Be Games Today! Who gives a fucking shit? Besides, all it means is an extra day of baseball games at the end of the season.
  18. =G-Fafif post_id=131588 time=1689280523 user_id=55] [Tellez] used Tom Seaver for a square asking for Mets and 20-game winner; afterward, he says, “One guy was like, ‘Who's that?' I was like, ‘He's like a top-15 best pitcher ever.'” He shakes his head sadly.
  19. 7/9 [FIMG=555]https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53043719080_8dc74ce34f_c.jpg[/FIMG] I guess now that BBRef acquired this game, we won't be seeing too many pictureless players.
  20. =metirish post_id=131538 time=1689195499 user_id=72] ..anyway, IL.play has also diluted the game
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Yeah, I'm not interested in the game at all either, but I'm not a hater. And I don't think I missed anything. I could have watched, but no matter how exciting the game may have been, I would have been bored. I can't sit through a sporting event if I don't care about the outcome. This is me. I used to love the ASG growing up but I've gradually continued to lose interest. The very last straw for me was these uniform uniforms the all-stars now wear. I always felt that one of the game's biggest charms was seeing all the different baseball uniforms on the field all at the same time. I've no doubt that the change was motivated entirely to get fans to spend more money on another uniform.
  22. The Mets have been around just as long as the Astros, yet almost twice as many Mets played for the Dodgers compared to Astros. When I used to post those baseball card threads, the Dodgers threads were the largest of all teams.
  23. Good analysis on the 200 hit club. I almost went with Duke Snider over Garvey but then remembered that Garvey was known for 200 hit seasons. Wanna know why Garvey had so many of them? Because he never fucking walked. Not so hot OBPs. And the Dook? Turns out the most hits he had in a season was 199. Twice. And one 198 hit season.
  24. I agree. I watched the Alonso/JRod round. It was the only round I watched. I knew for sure that Pete had no chance after seeing just two or three of his pitcher's deliveries. He took too long to throw his pitches. Big fucking wind-up. JRod's pitcher, by contrast, was a goddam machine. The contest shouldn't hinge on the quality of the pitcher. Either get a pitching machine or give each batter a finite # of swings. And the format sucked because you couldn't even see the HRs or the flight of the batted ball. What then, is the point?
