Hitters are going into funks. The good people in the bullpen are being overused and the rest of them just suck. So after 60 games, they're just spinning their wheels. The Diaz injury really hurts. Not only was Diaz historically great last year, but he was also one of the very best relievers in baseball the year before. Diaz's presence would have eliminated the worst reliever from the rotation. That's a huge gap in value - swapping Diaz for whoever is the least effective Mets reliever. Marte's off. Lindor's under .220 and not doing enough offensively to compensate for that and especially, taking at-bats from the very top of the lineup. And like I said, McNeil this year is a singles hitter with virtually no power. His isolated power is practically non-existent. His 2023 is a repeat of his disappointing 2021 season, except that his BA is somewhat better this year. If you looked at his 2021 and 2023 season stats, you'd never imagine that he could sandwich a batting title in between.
