1. =metirish post_id=128788 time=1686767482 user_id=72] This is wild , and seems like something MLB should crack down on, although how would they?
2. A's score once in the bottom of the 7th and then again in the eighth to edge the Rays 2-1 and win their seventh in a row. The A's are now 19-50 (.275) and will go for the three game sweep of the Rays, tomorrow.
3. Scherzer's no longer elite, it seems.
4. Matt Harvey's at the game. Because he's a fucking Yankee fan, no doubt.
5. I'm the lone Alonso voter. So far. Though admittedly, the two are extremely close, almost inseparable. Offensively, they're having, rate-wise, virtually identical seasons. The flaw with this poll is that youse are being asked to nail a moving target. They're so close, that one or two very good or very bad games for Alvarez can change your minds. That's why I made the poll so that youse could change your votes.

7. Alvarez or Alonso? Who's having the better season rate-wise or pound-for-pound? Dont give Alonso extra credit for playing more often.
8. Steve Cohen wouldn't have let Murphy go away.
9. I noticed it also "If" Mauricio is called up tomorrow anyone's guess who might not longer be a Met It could be Vientos because if you're going to PH for him with someone incapable of hitting then that's not a good sign. If it's a position player, it's gotta be between Vientos, Vogey, Guillorme and Escobar, right? Some of those potential cuts would be way more dramatic than others. Baty's got options and also, hasn't been so productive.
10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I would be surprised if Buck is on the hot seat. I think many people are assuming that Steve Cohen is the second coming of George Steinbrenner. Maybe he is, but I'm not so sure. Sensible words from the owner: https://nypost.com/2023/06/10/steve-cohen-not-going-to-blow-up-over-troubling-mets-start/https://nypost.com/2023/06/10/steve-cohen-not-going-to-blow-up-over-troubling-mets-start/
11. I think that Harrelson was safe and that it wasn't even a close play. Look at the video at around the 1:16-1:17 mark. Umpire Donatelli had a bad angle. His view was essentially obstructed by Fosse's body or "pitch-framed" from seeing the entire play. Mays had the better angle, as did the Mets dugout, which was on the first base side. That's why several Mets came running out to complain almost instantly. I also don't agree that Harrelson had "no business going: especially since he beat the throw and in any event, it was a close play if you think Harrelson was out. Rudi made a good throw and Harrelson still beat it. And Harrelson had speed. He was not a slow runner. Check out the whole game here:
12. A's win their 4th straight. A win tomorrow and their WL pct. will be over .250.
13. Catch of de year! Senga gets his man!
14. Worst day of the season: this embarrassing annihilation of a loss and then finding out that Alonso's gonna miss about a month of baseball. Is this team even watchable without Polar Pete?
15. https://nypost.com/2023/06/09/mets-pirates-fans-brawl-in-stands-during-blowout/https://nypost.com/2023/06/09/mets-pirates-fans-brawl-in-stands-during-blowout/ Mets and Bucs fans brawl it out at PNC during game. Lotsa jerseys to be seen in Twitter video and pics, including Pittsburgh Jason Bay, Ralph Kiner and Barry Bonds jerseys and a black Mets Edwin Diaz jersey.
16. Still a Met. Nido clears waivers and accepts Mets AAA assignment. Excerpt: Tomas Nido cleared waivers Friday, the team announced, and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Syracuse. The catcher was designated for assignment Monday, when Omar Narvaez returned from the injured list. Nido could have refused the outright to become a free agent, but that would have meant giving up the remainder of the two-year contract worth $3.7 million he received from the Mets last offseason. Nido didn't have minor league options remaining, but as a player with less than five years major league experience was eligible for outright and is off the 40-man roster. https://nypost.com/2023/06/10/tomas-nido-clears-waivers-accepts-mets-triple-a-assignment/https://nypost.com/2023/06/10/tomas-nido-clears-waivers-accepts-mets-triple-a-assignment/
17. Great news for the 1980 Mets.
18. For all of rbe money Cohen's spent on payroll, there's only one top tier elite player in his prime on the Mets roster making huge money --- Francisco Lindor. Diaz is out for the season. The payroll money that put the Mets way over the top went to a pair of 40+ year old pitchers who are practically guaranteed to decline in a .Mets uniform. McNeil's hard to figure out Two of his last three seasons are nothing to get excited about.
19. Cohen could DFA Lindor and Verlander and replace them with Guillorme and Lucchesi. Really? Buck's on the hot seat?
20. Chris "Mad Dog" Russo sez so. Chris ‘Mad Dog' Russo makes shocking charge against Mets owner Steve Cohen Excerpt: ...the bombastic hot take-machine is questioning Cohen's loyalty. “First off, let's get rid of one of these myths, that Steve Cohen, growing up in Long Island had Ed Kranepool pictures in his bedroom,” Russo said on ESPN's “First Take” on Tuesday. “No, he didn't. He's the owner. He owns a fortune. He was a Yankee fan! He loved the Yankees! He didn't love the Mets. The Mets were for sale, and now he's got his Mets hat on and he's Mr. Met? Nonsense!” https://www.nj.com/mets/2023/06/chris-mad-dog-russo-makes-shocking-charge-against-mets-owner-steve-cohen.htmlhttps://www.nj.com/mets/2023/06/chris-mad-dog-russo-makes-shocking-charge-against-mets-owner-steve-cohen.html

I'd really like to know how they do it, calling up players with half the seasoning of other team's prospects, and having them arrive fully ready to perform at top level. I know, right? It seems every year, there's a new Brave rookie or sophomore that's a star, or even MVP/Cy caliber. It's scouting, drafting and then development. It's what the Dodgers have been doing for a decade now. It's what Steve Cohen wants to do. That sounds great- only it's not gonna happen just because Cohen wants it to happen. And you gotta be real lucky, too. And give the Braves big credit for not pursuing deGrom 'cause you gotta assume that the Braves were one of deGrom's preferred teams.

23. This team is just not very good. With more than a third of the season down, they are closer to the division basement than to first place, and find themselves looking up at teams such as Pittsburgh and San Francisco. I keep waiting for them to go on a tear, but I'm not sure they have a "ten wins in twelve games" type of stretch in them. Could've been even worse. Had the Mets signed both deGrom and Trevor Bauer, they probably wouldn't have either Scherzer or Verlander right now. They kinda got lucky there, in hindsight.
24. But do any of them come across their odd Mets posters?
25. DeGrom signed a 5-year, $185 million deal with the Rangers in free agency. Texas took a chance on him despite knowing his history because they were desperate for pitching help. And they took an even bigger risk than many people realized. In response to the news of deGrom's surgery, we learned that the Rangers did not purchase insurance on the pitcher's contract. According to an article published by The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal last month, the Rangers chose not to pay for insurance on deGrom's deal because the cost would have been “prohibitively expensive.” What does that mean? Rather than be able recoup some expenses had they insured the contract, the Rangers will just have to eat all the money they owe deGrom for 2023 and 2024 regardless of how much time he misses due to injury. DeGrom is owed $30 million this year and $40 million next year. The one benefit the Rangers have as a result of deGrom's injury is that due to contract stipulations, they now will have an option for the pitcher in 2028. The 2028 team option could be worth either $37 million, $30 million or $20 million depending on a few factors related to the pitcher's performance. Had deGrom not suffered a major injury/missed significant time during his contract, the team would not have had a 2028 option for the pitcher. https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/detail-jacob-degrom-contract-rangers-insurance/616033https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/detail-jacob-degrom-contract-rangers-insurance/616033
