  1. Isn't that Endy next to Delgado's right (our left)?
  2. Sigh. Next year, the Mets black uniforms will set a franchise record for uniform longevity. Nice way to commemorate the team's 50th. Buzz: on Black Uniforms, Blue Stripes April 8, 2010 at 12:45 pm 15 comments by Matthew Cerrone I was able to confirm an e-mail I got yesterday I believe he also e-mailed Shannon at Mets Police saying the Mets will be keeping the black uniforms next season, and might look to ditch the blue stripe running along the collar and down the center. http://www.metsblog.com/2010/04/08/buzz-on-black-uniforms-blue-stripes/

I would guess that the Polo Grounds was a great triples park without specifically researching this ... but simply based on my knowledge of the stadium's configuration. Perhaps the NY Giants might be a contender for those triples records FK was wondering about.
  4. Gordon Richardson was the last Met to wear #41, immediately prior to Seaver. I'm sure of this much. I don't know the other 41's, though.

  7. Who better to restore the Mets franchise than Torre? And what better way is there for Torre to stick it to the Yankees .... Because the Mets will always win the comparison between the Torre managed MFY's of the late 90's-early 00's and the the Torre managed de Roulet Mets.
  8. Ceetar wrote: If we really want to stick it to the Yankees, which signing Torre would do, Mets roots aside, we should get Mattingly to be the manager. Here's an idea: Let's stick it to the Yankees by hiring Willie Randolph. That'll do it.
  9. I grew up in the Land of the Giants. I played for The Tiny Tee Giants, The Tiny Giants, The Little Giants, The Light Giants, The Little Light Elite Giants, The Purple Elite Giants, The Elite Medium-Sized Middle Giants, The Colorless Purple Giants and The Color of Purple Black Giants.

This is not a quiz. No historical significance. They are on display at the point where the line between museum and gift shop merge. The lamps retail for something like $4,900. Chump change.... Aha! Thank you. So .... what's bigger? The gift shop or the museum?
  11. Can someone please post tomorrow's Mets lineup? I'd like to bitch about how David Wright was buried at the bottom of the lineup five seasons ago. Thank you.

  13. Keith Hernandez, who has been around, said he had never heard trainers being booed. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/06/sports/baseball/06vecsey.html
  14. Meet the Mets Memorabilia By KEN BELSON With their 7-1 victory over the Marlins on Monday, the Mets officially opened their 49th season. With just two championships to their name, the Mets are eons beyond the Yankees, the Cardinals and the Dodgers. But the teams history is fabled nonetheless, from lovable losers to miracle Mets to Cinderella upstarts in 1973 and so on. That narrative has found a home in the Mets year-old home, Citi Field, too. Perhaps a year late, the teams Hall of Fame and Museum just opened with a tasteful and modest display of jerseys, bats, awards and nods to the teams most influential characters. The showcase to the right of the entrance included a nice collection of 1960s memorabilia, including a 45-r.p.m. record of Meet the Mets, a Mr. Met bobblehead and Gil Hodgess contract. There was also a bat used by Duffy Dyer, catcher Jerry Grotes light-hitting understudy for many years. It was unclear whether his bat was a whimsical gesture or a cruel joke, but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless. Tom Seaver and the 1969 championship team were rightly given extra space. One of Seavers Cy Young Award trophies was there, as well as his Sportsman of the Year award from Sports Illustrated. Keith Hernandezs Gold Glove award was impressive, too. There was an interactive exhibit for the Mets broadcasters with a selection of their most famous calls. I chose several of Lindsey Nelsons, which I had trouble hearing in the crowded room. But it was great to see some of the old game footage. This years Mets are wearing uniforms that are basically updated versions of the teams original home pinstripes. One showcase included jerseys from various eras, like the 1980s look with those wide stripes on the arms. For some reason, the only jersey they could find from the late 1970s and early 1980s was that of Ron Hodges, another backup catcher. A time line stretched across another wall, with lots of historical nuggets. Apparently nothing notable happened between 1973 and 1983, the Mets lost decade (except perhaps that the team was bought for a record price). Still, there were enough artifacts and curiosities to make the museum a must-see, at least for those with tickets. The museum, for now, will be open only on game days. http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/04/05/meet-the-mets-memorabilia/

  17. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: "Mercury Mets" makes my cut.... Also, is there a Mets uni-history exhibit? If not, that's an easy fix, innit? In one display, uniforms are presented in historical chronological order. But several uniform styles are missing from that display, including (or not including) a Mercury Mets jersey.
