Unless the Mets finish the season with the best Wild Card team record in the NL (the #4 seed), they'll be the road team for the entire best of three Wild Card round. Under the current playoff format, the higher seeds are the home teams in every first round game.

  4. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=171040 time=1726808349 user_id=68] Mets ESPN playoff odds are only 8% better than the Braves, even though they're two games up on the Braves with just nine games left to play. Padres 87-66 (+2) (99.5%) Mets 85-68 (--) (63.3%) DBacks 85-68 (--) (82.0%) Braves 83-70 (-2) (55.2%) The DBacks are given an almost 20% better chance of making the playoffs than the Mets even though the two teams have identical records and the Mets hold the tiebreaker advantage over the DBacks. Must be that looming head-to-head series with the Braves, right? (But the DBacks and Padres end their seasons playing each other). Or that the Mets finish the season with a tough schedule, at least on paper, playing three playoff contenders.

  7. Sequels. Not remakes. Coming to America and Coming 2 America were many years apart. Bambi and Bambi 2, too.

  11. More shrimp salad. Come and get it. If your plate's not big enough to hold all the shrimp you want, stuff 'em in your pants pockets.
  12. Not quite dark horse stuff, but The Athletic identifies the most indispensable under-the-radar players for each of the playoff contenders: New York Mets: Mark Vientos, 3B Mark Vientos has been a key cog in the Mets' lineup and one of their most consistent hitters. He batted .291/.347/.549 in the first half with 12 home runs and has hit .250/.309/.495 in the second half with 12 bombs. On the season, he has a 140 OPS+. He ranks in the 86th percentile in batting run value and in the 92nd percentile in barrel percentage. Vientos has crushed fastballs (.333 batting average against) and changeups (.382) while struggling against breaking balls (.172). His defense has improved considerably since spring training. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5772020/2024/09/17/mlb-playoff-contenders-2024-analysis/https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5772020/2024/09/17/mlb-playoff-contenders-2024-analysis/

  14. i wonder where the Mets would be this season without either Vientos or Iglesias? Worse off, likely.
  15. BTW, speaking of IGT winning streaks, if we were to have a contest to see who would have the best IGT winning percentage, the best strategy to employ would be to hog them up. Being an IGT hog would give you the best chance of scoring the highest winning percentage. That's because given our unwritten IGT rules, claiming a win ensures that you'll then get every consecutive win that follows. But if the Mets were to, say, have a 10 game losing streak, no one would ever get stuck with all 10 of those losses because the rules prohibit you from claiming a game after a loss.
  16. =Centerfield post_id=170646 time=1726602743 user_id=65] I didn't realize until just how that the IGT argument was real and not tongue in cheek. To be honest, I'm still not completely sure. I

  18. I totally agree He keeps coming at me Should I just ignore him? I'm open to any advice Just run to Edgy whenever somebody criticizes you. What a big baby you are. Jesus christ. I'm not harrassing you. This is one disagreement between us. It's not personal. I have nothing against you. I would've written the same posts no matter who hogged up the IGT's like you did. In just one thread, I was called a troll and made a to be a villain and then "FAIL"'d just because I don't give a flying fuck about next year's schedule. I gp through that kind of a clusterfuck like every other month. So give me a break. But when I totally demonstrated that it was perfectly fine to express disinterest in the schedule so long as it wasn't me not caring, nobody said anything. Nobody apologized. Nothing. It's OK, though, when Grimm doesn't give a flying fuck whether someone hogs up the IGT's. Whatever. I'm done with this topic.

  20. Mark Vientos 406 PA .270/.328/.849 (24 HR) 140 OPS+ 2.7bWAR Jose Iglesias 239 PA .292/.372/.436 (3 HR) 123 OPS+ 2.7bWAR

All the more reason that it's cool to let each other share in the opportunity, and encourage each other liberally to participate. I knew that. IGT's matter. I'm certain of that and I base it on reading this forum for years and years and years. Edgy's post just confirms what I always suspected. If they don't matter to Grimm, that's fine, too. Different strokes for different folks.
  22. Thanks everybody My IGT percentage is about .800 That's the only reason I have been eager to do these Not even close. It's .667 and that's because you IGT'd the Mets longest win streak of the year, a nine game run. Without that streak, your IGT percentage would be at about the Mets season winning percentage. So you're breaking even. Of course you IGT'd that nine game winning streak. Somebody hadda get that streak and it was you because you hog up all the IGT's so it was likelier that it'd be you, instead of anybody else. You're that guy that shows up at the party and goes over to the shrimp salad and puts like 25 pieces of shrimp in his plate but only like one and a half pieces of lettuce from the shrimp salad. Then a minute later, the next guy goes over to the shrimp salad to help himself and after going through the now thoroughly scavenged damn salad with his serving tongs and unable to find a single shrimp, yells over to the host: "There's no shrimp in this shrimp salad! Where the hell are all the shrimp!?! What kind of a party is this?" And then you come over to that poor shrimpless party guest and tell him that he should've gotten to the shrimp salad at seven in the morning when the hosts were preparing the shrimp salad because if he'd gotten to the shrimp salad at seven in the morning, he would've gotten some pieces of shrimp.
  23. =ashie62 post_id=170488 time=1726528713 user_id=90] I have no interest in this game. He should have been suspended for a week
  24. I'd love to think it could also spur the veterans to step up (looking your way, Pete, Starling, and Brandon). Because whenever players feel like it, they could play a lot better than they usually do. They just turn on their mqgic clutch switch and voila, they become 50 homers a year hitters instead of 25 homers a year hitters. And they'll hit .600 the rest of the way out. Why they wait for Lindor to be out of the lineup before they magically clutch up is the big mystery because if they turned on their super-duper magic clutch powers from the start of the season, they'd all be vying for MVP and the Mets would have 110 wins by now. It's probably Mendoza's fault. He didn't ask for them to clutch up and play better properly. "Hey you! Pete Alonso. Lindor's hurt. So start hitting like the prime of Hank Aaron. And you, J.D. Martinez! You start hitting like Ted Williams. But from the right side. As if Ted Williams was a right-handed batter. Lindor's out of the lineup. You too, Jose Iglesias! Just pick a Hall of Famer and hit like him. Just don't pick a Hall of Fame pitcher. Or Bill Mazeroski." Yeah, that's it. The veterans aren't trying their best. Only a Lindor injury could possibly motivate them to play better. Not a playoff seed, or the enormous amount of money they might make from playing better or their personal self-interest in producing the best stats possible, none of that. It's Lindor's back problem that's gonna motivate them.
