Frayed Knot wrote: Conforto: 10 HRs in 119 PAs Aaron Judge: 14 in 132 Both totals include a HR from today's in-progress games. But one is the toast of baseball with talk about challenging records while the other is going virtually unmentioned ... Just sayin' I know what you mean. As of a couple of weeks ago, Conforto's been appearing on the batting leaderboards, without any accompanying national attention. He's been one of the league's best hitters this season.

That's got to be the highest set of digits to be worn the number of times it represents. Let's see! First 1: Richie Ashburn Second 2: Jimmie Piersall .... A few years ago, I ran your post as a quiz. I posted the first 10 names on the list as baseball cards and asked who was the next Met in the sequence (Tucker Ashford). The quiz was a stumper. I remember posting a pic of Piersall in #34 because otherwise, the visuals might've given the answer away.

Maybe I'm not following. Is there another way to label the anonymous source(s) that would, in your view, enhance the credibility of the story? Or is your beef the fact that the sources are anonymous and no re-lableing would fix that beef?

Frayed Knot wrote: The story may very well be true but "baseball sources" could be anything from a teammate or front office guy, to someone in a different organization or just some fan who claims to know something. Hell, Paul LoDuca has been all over everywhere since this story broke, claiming to have the inside word on this and the facts on that, and I had no idea he was in any way actually still connected to a sport that didn't involve betting on horses and chasing underage girls, and yet he could be the "baseball source" on this one. But why would the phrase "baseball sources" hurt the credibility of the story (as opposed to some other wording for an anonymous source or sources)? I read it that the source or sources are connected to the baseball industry, as opposed to regular civilians who might be close to Harvey but not connected to baseball, hence "baseball sources". I mean, if Sandy Alderson, for example, was the leaker, the writers couldn't describe him as an anonymous GM in MLB, could they? I look at the big picture and see a new story that's plausible and consistent with everything else that was disclosed about this incident.

Frayed Knot wrote: Not to denigrate the fine reporting history and taut journalism that 'Page Six' has long represented, but forgive me if I question the validity of phrases like: Lima “really messed with Matt Harvey’s head,” baseball sources said. Baseball sources ... Really?!? The story makes sense to me, not that I would know one way or the other whether or not its true. But it certainly passes the plausible test. And "baseball sources" because the source or sources don't want it to be known that they're "ratting" on Harvey. If it's true, it means Harvey went out drinking on Friday night at the same exact club where earlier, Lima was photographed with Edelman. The old "What a coincidence, I just happened to be in your neighborhood" High School move Harvey played. Heartbroken Harvey. Did Ralph Kiner break down when Elizabeth Taylor dumped him?

The plot thickens. Or wrinkles. Matt Harvey sent over the edge by gal pal’s reunion with ex By Emily Smith and Ruth Brown May 9, 2017 | 8:01pm Mets pitcher Matt Harvey skipped Saturday’s game and got himself suspended after seeing pictures of his supermodel gal pal out partying with another man, sources told The Post. The “Dark Knight” became an emotional wreck on May 2, after paparazzi photos came out showing Adriana Lima stepping from a limo and heading into Rihanna’s Met Gala after-party with her former boyfriend, NFL star Julian Edelman. Both the Victoria’s Secret stunner and the Patriots wide receiver — with whom she had broken up several months earlier — wore grins on their faces like they were having the time of their lives. Inside the party, Lima and Edelman were “flirty,” Post sources said. And, to add insult to injury, Lima unfollowed Harvey on Instagram after the event. Apparently, Harvey was unaware that Lima was just not as into their relationship as he was. “Adriana’s relationship with Matt was never serious,” a source said. “They are no longer seeing each other.” A depressed Harvey, who was in Atlanta on the night of the Met Gala, had to take his turn pitching in the Mets rotation a few hours after seeing his gal pal out on the town without him. He wound up getting hammered by the Braves, giving up 6 runs in 5 innings. Modal Trigger Julian Edelman and Adriana Lima are seen arriving at Rihanna’s Met Gala party.Splash News Lima “really messed with Matt Harvey’s head,” baseball sources said. Harvey got hammered again early Saturday morning, when he went to the Meatpacking District hot spot 1 Oak — the same club where Lima and Edelman were photographed — and partied until 4 a.m. The feeling among other players on the Mets was that Harvey was out Friday night blowing off steam and trying to get over Lima, baseball sources told The Post. If he managed to relax at all is unknown, because Lima called him while he was playing golf before the Mets game Saturday and had a conversation that made him even more upset, sources said. A few hours later, he would turn up AWOL for the Mets Game at Citi Filed against the Florida Marlins, telling the team he had a “migraine,” and leading Mets brass to suspend him. Sources said that Harvey had little chance with Lima — who was married to Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric for five years and who has been linked celebs such as rocker Lenny Kravitz and Yankees great Derek Jeter. The stunning Brazilian brunette isn’t looking to be tied down with any man right now, a source said. “She dates men like male sports stars go through women” the source said. “She’s beautiful, one of the most desired women in the world, she’s fun, has already been married and isn’t looking to settle down.” Harvey is also known for playing the field, and Lima was just the latest in a series of models seen on his arm. He has previously been linked to beauties Ania Cywinska, Ashley Haas, Anne Vyalitsyna, Shannon Rusbuldt, Asha Leo and Devon Windsor. The Amazins hurler reportedly blew off a mandatory team workout after calling it quits with Polish gal pal Cywinska in 2015 — although their eight-month relationship lasted longer than most of Harvey’s trysts. But the 28-year-old lothario recently claimed that he is planning on settling down sooner rather than later. “I don’t think I will [follow] the Derek Jeter model. I’m not afraid of [marriage],” he told The Post in March. http://pagesix.com/2017/05/09/matt-harvey-sent-over-the-edge-by-gal-pals-reunion-with-ex/

Just to really confuse things, Harvey'll probably pitch a gem worthy of a Cy Young candidate in his next start.

I recall reading several quotes over the years that it's Cincinnati. Even Led Zeppelin noted that you're lucky to get a decent meal there after 10PM. Are you sure its not Cleveland? Now I remember the context of the Zeppelin quote. They were justifying wrecking their hotel rooms in Cincy. They recalled that by the time their Cincy concerts had ended, there wasn't a thing open in that city and so how else were young men on top of the world supposed to release all that energy?

Centerfield wrote: batmagadanleadoff wrote: I don't think this game's any more important than any of the others. Who cares about the order in which the wins come? Its the total that counts. OK, it's against a division rival so there's that, I suppose. But not much more that I can see. I feel like the order does matter. I have no way of proving this, but it certainly seems to make a difference. Psyche, morale, etc. In the same way it feels like the order in which runs scored matters. The Mets were up 5-0, and eventually won 16-5. You could say it doesn't matter how the runs were scored, at the end it was not a close game. But I feel like had the Mets jumped in front 5-0, and then let Atlanta tie the game, the end result could have been much different. No way to back it up, but just a hunch. Maybe you and others are talking about something totally different. I agree that the order of runs or wins might yield a more pleasurable feel-goodiness factor. But I doubt that the order will affect the likelihood of the team winning any of its future games. And from that perspective, this now postponed game was no more or less important than any other. -

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that a player can refuse an MRI. But upon further thought, though, it makes sense. I mean, what the hell can you do? You can't ordinarily force an adult to receive medical treatment. Of course, MLB isn't an ordinary society and this could've been covered in the bargaining agreement. But even if MLB could force a player to undergo medical testing, how does a team handle something like this Thor incident where the player refuses testing? I guess the fringier or more expendable a player is, the more he risks being cut or suspended or some other meaningful penalty. But when it's a star like Syndergaard, what can you do other than to bench him? And if you bench him, for how long do you bench him if he continues to refuse an MRI? If he said he felt fine yesterday, he'll probably say he feels fine tomorrow and the day after, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. It's pretty obvious that Syndergaard put everybody connected in a really bad spot. -
