About effin' time. Eight games without a homer? What kind of shit was that? -
Frayed Knot wrote: I feel bad for Betances cuz he not only got screwed over via the arbitration process .... This is, perhaps, the biggest reason why MLB is still in this stupid state where the best relievers are reserved for the ninth inning "closer" role and why the stupid save stat still carries so much weight. Because closers and relievers with high save totals get disproportionately rewarded in the arbitration process. You'd think that the arbitration setting is a more intelligent process, where players are assessed objectively, removed from the emotional and psychic value of "the save". You'd think that arbitrators, by now, have been exposed to mountains of evidence on behalf of so called set-up relievers whose stats are just as impressive as those of the ninth inning guys, other than that they don't get to rack up the saves because they don't pitch the ninth inning. But no. So we're in this loop where the best relievers want to close because they want the saves, which will make them more money. Of the save guys get more money in arbitration, they'll also make more money in free agency. And so it goes.

=batmagadanleadoff post_id=22155 time=1568749493 user_id=68] They should spend more money. They play in a tough division and yet their real payroll - the payroll that doesn't account for insurance covered payments to Wright and Cespedes -- is league average -- even though they play in New York City. This isn't rocket science. The Wilpons will half measure us to death next year, too, because it's what they've done practically every season. Jesus Christ. Too fucking cheap to get a third baseman befitting of a major market team so instead, they pay through the teeth for a second baseman whose inevitable decline is minutes away and move everybody else around the field like Alice in Wonderland chess pieces in the baseball equivalent of shifting your left tackle to the quarterback position.

Joe Torre, traitor to NYC: https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/joe-torre-explains-why-mlb-wont-let-mets-wear-first-responder-hats-on-911/310758556https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/joe-torre-explains-why-mlb-wont-let-mets-wear-first-responder-hats-on-911/310758556 Everyone needs to make a huge deal out of this. As soon as you remember that the Yankees don't have to wear NOB's on the road even though every other team does, Torre's explanation is completely undermined.

Oh c'mon. They have a .513 winning percentage. They're the '75 Mets, who had their own Cy Young award winner and HR title contender. But they weren't a playoff team. It's incredible how the Wilpons have lowered everybody's expecitations through their perennial incompetence so that everyone's goal is the stupid wild card game which would be fine if this were Kansas City instead of New York Cty. Two first place finishes in thirty one seasons.

IGT 9/15/2019: LAD @ NYM — See You Next Month

h How can it be that your eighth slot hitter was batting leadoff just a few days ago? -
He doesn't want Mets tickets. He's still a Yankee fan. He sez he'll continue to watch on TV and maybe, catch 'em on the road. He can. boycott the owners and still go to home games by not. buying his tix directly from the team. That's what I do. I've never bought a Citi Field ticket directly from the Mets. Though they still get my yearbook and food .money, I suppose.

A coupl'a days ago, I thought Alonso was gassed. I thought he was really late on a few fastballs and I figured maybe he's wearing down as the season ends, never having played a season this long and maybe not knowing how to pace himself, him being a rookie, and on top of that, all gung ho with the season he's been having. Plus, he's. been so sensational that he's in the lineup every day. But then he hits two homers in one game against the DBacks and so I say to myself: "what the hell do I know"? -
=Centerfield post_id=21795 time=1568383189 user_id=65] The Wilpons don't care. Or don't care to stand up to MLB. Which is why this goes no where.

I've been down on him for a coupl'a years now. Understandably, right? We said we were gonna take a brief hiatus here at Typewriter, but we can't help ourselves. We stopped by the ol' Bat-offices just for some housecleaning but we decided to bring back the Batman Juan Lagares card in honor of today's hitting sensation. It's a Batgirl card and she's the star of the 3rd series so this all works out. Batgirl just might turn out to be the good luck charm the Mets need. Confy bashsed his 30th today, too, with a little help from Batgirl, I'd like to believe. Where does she come from and where does she go? We're all Batgirl this week. I'm still processing Edgy noticing that TV Batgirl's colors are also LA Lakers colors. Never thought of that one. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48599867106_5eb18c2dfb_c.jpg> https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48721717616_d707fbfc77_c.jpg>

We're closing out the third series of Batman cards with a card featuring the star of the series -- Batgirl. Typewriter Chewing Gum will then be taking a brief hiatus. But we'll be back with a first look at the brand new fourth series real soon. Meanwhile, we've been up to our Bat-Ears in Batman history this whole summer. So much so that I couldn't help but pick up this terrific DVD boxed set of the Batman TV show. [fimg=333]https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/91bc9821-7bca-4362-ad71-1f6ea73daf84_1.7e5aa422cac9cb96ec168cea648a0710.jpeg[/fimg] Youse might think I'm a Bat-maniac, but truth be told, most of my Batman TV show memories are from my elementary school days, when I hero worshiped Batman for a while and probably ran around the house once or twice with the biggest bathroom towel I could find tied around my neck like Batman's big swooping cape. Didn't every superhero fan do that? If you're a fan, this boxed set is worth getting. The shows were remastered and the colors, rich and deeply saturated pop out of the TV like one of those Batman cartoon fight words. Zonk!. I couldn't help but notice how much the TV show was influenced by the pop art movement that had broken big by 1966. Delightfully absurd sets in brightly intense colors -- youse should check it out. We've also went on a cyber-hunt for a cool Batman T-shirt and in the process, discovered this hip t-shirt company that's new to me, but, I learned, was a big deal a few years ago -- name of the company is Threadless. They've got endless cool stuff and quite a Batman inventory. I'll post a few of my favorites and the links. One particular Batman T-shirt captures the essence of Typewriter Chewing Gum perfectly. But the T-shirt's a provocative attention-getter and to tell youse the truth, I'm not sure I have the balls to wear that shirt in public. But I'll pick up a few, nonetheless, for our terrific and loyal staff, who keep this show going. See youse soon. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48721717616_d707fbfc77_c.jpg> [FIMG=400]https://cdn-images.threadless.com/threadless-media/artist_shops/shops/creativeworkings/products/778959/shirt-1538158912-c038a769e208ed952e00372dc3e309de.png?v=3&d=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[/FIMG] https://www.threadless.com/discover/s/creativeworkings/design/batman-1966-fight-scene-onomatopoeia-eeeyow/mens/t-shirt/extra-soft?color=royal_bluehttps://www.threadless.com/discover/s/creativeworkings/design/batman-1966-fight-scene-onomatopoeia-eeeyow/mens/t-shirt/extra-soft?color=royal_blue [FIMG=400]https://cdn-images.threadless.com/threadless-media/artist_shops/shops/ikrim4/products/1113003/shirt-1565766151-a66ea482ef8985d279a0b3bb04cebb33.png?v=3&d=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[/FIMG] https://www.threadless.com/discover/s/ikrim4/design/new-batman/mens/t-shirt/regular#mhttps://www.threadless.com/discover/s/ikrim4/design/new-batman/mens/t-shirt/regular#m [FIMG=400]https://cdn-images.threadless.com/threadless-media/artist_shops/shops/LusciousLollipop/products/840295/shirt-1542835647-c556b6d62e2ba75e7643076e29942a49.png?v=3&d=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[/FIMG] https://www.threadless.com/discover/s/LusciousLollipop/design/batman-thinks-youre-a-****/mens/t-shirt/premium?color=olivehttps://www.threadless.com/discover/s/LusciousLollipop/design/batman-thinks-youre-a-****/mens/t-shirt/premium?color=olive

IGT - 9/11/19 -- DBacks @ Mets
batmagadanleadoff replied to Frayed Knot's topic in Archived Game Threads
Pete Alonso's at-bat was so long ago, that for a second, I thought this was the second inning. -
=kcmets post_id=21576 time=1568233500 user_id=53] I was taking you literally again. Thanks for not calling me the village idiot, oh wait that's ....
-
=G-Fafif post_id=21571 time=1568232183 user_id=55] You know whose rookie season never gets mentioned despite starting 35 games in a rotation that accomplished something people are still amazed by 50 years later? Gary Gentry. 13 wins in his first year when that was a stat people took seriously, yet not a single ROY vote or slot on Topps All-Rookie team. I guess the ring had to suffice.
-
So then why do they say "let's take two out of three"? It's dumb. I agree, that's not the part I'm disagreeing about haha... Oh I know. You're disagreeing with the part of my post that any other person would know by now is tongue in cheek.
-
This take two of three is moronic. What's a team that wins the first two games of a three game series supposed to do: lose the third game on purpose to fulfill the two out of three trope? Or not try as hard with two wins already in the back pocket? We're getting a little silly here. I can't imagine a team, a player or a fan no thinking of not sweeping. Bill's Brooms is not just a thing here, it's spread nationwide include clubhouses. So then why do they say "let's take two out of three"? It's dumb. Now winning two out of three is good because if you win at that rate all season long you've won 108 games and you're a goddamn juggernaut. Like the '86 Mets. But taking two out of three is backwards looking. A professional Major League baseball team that wins the first two games of the series and then loses the third should be fucking livid pissed in the hours immediately following that third game defeat rather than rationalizing and saying "oh, well, we won two out of three".
