Trevor Bauer is your NL Cy Young Award winner if the season ended today. Bauer hasn't allowed more than three hits in any of his starts. deGrom is one of this year's 10 best, stats-wise.

I know that clutch is mostly a dirty word in these them parts but the Mets haven't been very clutch. Yet! It's coming... "Clutch" isn't a dirty word and "clutch hitting" isn't a dirty phrase. Or at least, they shouldn't be. Clutch hitting happens all the time and doesn't happen all the time. There are definitely clutch hits. What there aren't are clutch hitters. What clutch hitting isn't is a skill -- a repeatable skill -- like hitting home runs or stealing second base or being able to consistently throw a 96MPH fastball on the black.

The Mets next 13 scheduled games (four series) will all be against either the Marlins or the Yankees, assuming, of course, that the schedule holds up. The earliest deGrom might next pitch would be this Wednesday against Miami, having been definitively ruled out for today and tomorrow.

Either that or there's more important Mets stories to cover right now -- like how Luis Guillorme might be the next Ty Cobb all thanks to a coupl'a lucky grounders that got through the infield for singles, soaring his batting average to three zillion and a half based on like six at bats. Who the fuck cares when deGrom's next start is. Besides, if the Mets can win two more games, they probably clinch a playoff spot.
