  2. ]using the advice of esteemed pitching coach Leo Mazzone to take his game to a higher level. Hmmm. Considering some of the "games" they've reportedly played, maybe she should have stuck with him. Later
  3. And Rick Reed, too. I think Petit fell into that same category, despite all the minor league strikeouts. Later
  4. I still feel bad for Roberto. The guy is a power hitter and gets a chance to stick with a major league team. Then he ends up playing half his games where the outfield fences are in a different area code. Later
  5. Diaz should stay for at least one of three reasons: Floyd gets hurt, or needs an occasional rest. (Chavez doesn't have the bat for more than occasional duty for a corner outfielder) And Floyd will be a free agent at the end of this year. Nady can't cut it. Milledge may not be ready until mid next year. Later
  6. Edgy DC wrote: Not remembered: Dallas Green got three points in the 1995 Manager of the Year vote. They held the election in a crack house? IMO those votes prove that the use of drugs wasn't only limited to the players. Later
  7. Bret Sabermetric wrote: I don't really get the reasoning here. If every single violator of a law is not convicted and given a precisely equal sentence, then the law should be taken off the books? (Putting on best Mr. Spock voice) Your conclusion is logical. Later
  8. OK, since you're looking for additional nominations, I'll add Glavine. Let's see how well his very good second half of last season, and his "I re-learned how to pitch" pronouncements carry over into this season. Later
  9. Willets Point wrote: That Mitchell is a busy man. Negotiating peace in Northern Ireland, director of the Red Sox, chairman of Walt Disney Co. and now rooting out 'roids users. And, more importantly, he's my almost-look-alike. Steve Somers said on his show last night that this is NOT a racial thing, it is about honesty and integrity. He added (my paraphrasing) that while much of the negative reaction Aaron got when chasing Ruth, and Sosa got while contesting McGwire for the single season record, was racist, this is not. I agree. And Mr. Moore doesn't know either basebal history or Barroid if he says it is. Later

  11. Braves manager Bobby Cox, commenting on his catcher, McCann getting hit in the,uh, crotch in today's game: "He still has two hands and two feet and hopefully two of something else." Later
  12. from prospectus: David Bell is opening the door for one of the best spring training stories around. With Bells back a lingering problem, the Phillies are going to break camp with 33-year-old rookie Chris Coste, who can play third and short. The author of two books, Coste is a Disney movie waiting to happen Anybody know about him? Later

  17. My boss once asked me if I spoke any foreign languages. I told him that since I was raised in New York, I probably knew some words in over 20 different langiuages (OK, hyperbole). The bad news was, the words that I know would probably get me tossed out of those countries. Later
  18. I'm getting this image of a 6'-plus girl with Unit's face. *shudder* Hope she's good at volleyball or basketball, because I don't think 'runway model' is in her future. Later
  19. Bret Sabermetric wrote: Can I get some action here? I say the Mets will score and surrender above league average in 2006. Do you want to take "They'll score and surrender below league average"? Contact Pete Ropse and find out the odds and the over/under. Then get back to us. What about score more and give up fewer? Later

  23. Now THAT was a meaningful thread title. KC, you owe me something to clean off my monitor and keyboard. Oh, and a can of soda, too. LOL! Later

  25. "He's a veteran. He's just getting his work in" Jim Rome has said the Lima was "on the bubble" to become the Mets' fifth starter. Looks like the bubble just burst. Later
