  1. Slow and steady wins the race. And (some of you may remember this) "The big "E" lights up on the Schaeffer scoreboard" But in David' s case, it stands for Excellent. Good job, David. And good job, Yancy. Thanks Later
  2. ] It came as a shock when Connie Mack started him in the World Series opener against the Cubs. Mack reasoned that the sidearming Ehmke had the perfect mix of stuff to keep the predominantly righthand-hitting Cubs off balance. Ehmke struck out a then-record 13 in pitching an eight-hit, 3-1 victory. Ya' gotta' believe. Later
  3. Congrats, Carlos. How ironic would it have been if ElDuque had won? Absolutely O'Henryesque. Later
  4. Is the world ready for a double dose of Joe Morgan? I read that there will be a car waiting for him outside Shea. As soon as the Mets' game is over, he will be rushed to Yankee Stadium to "cover" that game too. To all the baseball fans who will only be able to catch the games on radio - you are lucky. Later

    Relax!

    Relax!

Its 7 O'Clock in Europe. Maybe we can call over there and find out the final score. Yes, I'm a sick puppy. Later
  7. According to my Ranger fan friend, bench coach Don Wakamatsu, and Trey Hillman (who managed in Japan the last couple of years) are the leading candidates to replace Buck. Later
  8. This just in; ]El Duque off Mets' roster; Maine to start Game 1ESPN.com news services First Pedro Martinez, now Orlando Hernandez. The Mets lost a second starting pitcher as the postseason starts as El Duque was left off the roster with a torn calf muscle. John Maine will get the start for New York in Game 1 Wednesday afternoon against the Dodgers. Oliver Perez will take Hernandez's spot in the Mets' postseason rotation. Hernandez felt discomfort in his right leg while he was jogging in the outfield Tuesday and was pulled off the field and went for an MRI exam, which diagnosed a Grade 2 proximal gastroc tear of his right calf. Ugh. Later
  9. That's not poopie. He's standing on the warning track - the place made famous by Dave Magadan's fly balls. Later

  13. Here's an interesting fact; Shawn Green has hit three home runs this year off both Lowe and Maddux. Later

  15. Slap Slap Snap out of it! A few weeks ago, everyone knew that the Mets were so superior to the rest of the National League that they were going to roll through the NL playoffs. But think of what this would have done to the poor networks. No mystery. Ratings would have been in the pits. They would have been forced to show reruns of old sitcoms or X-Files episodes. I have it on good authority (and I'll go to jail to protect my sources) that they pleaded with the Mets to make this more interesting. So the Mets decided to throw the other teams a bone by going into the playoffs without their best pitchers. They can, and will, still win. You know it. And they know it too. Now sit back, relax, and have another sip of this delicious Kool Aid I've been drinking. Later
  16. Peterson; The Good; He told Williams to move to the other side of the rubber - immediate good results. The Bad: He tried to change Heliman's delivery (from 3/4 to overhand). After getting knocked around, Aaron went back to the delivery that had been successful for him in college and his performance improved. The Ugly: Well, Mother Teresa couldn't have cured what was wrong with Jose Lima. Later
  17. Thanks, KC. I'll try. Later

  19. ="Rotblatt"] At this rate, they look like they could both go 9. Well, they won't have to pinch hit for them because of that stupid AL rule. EDIT: every time I hear the name "Bartlett" I think of The Great Escape. Later
