  2. An adequate bench player. Nothing to get all excited about unless you wanted something better. But, for what he does (hit, with some power, and play multiple positions) there really isn't much out there. I'm ok with this. Later
  3. It didn't have to be a "leak" at all. IIRC the trade was announced as Wagner for two PTBNL. That usually means the players have to pass through waivers before they can be moved. (It can also mean the player is on the DL and can't be moved util after he is off it.) All the teams (and reporters) had to do was watch the waiver wire to see who Boston was putting on it, and draw their own conclusions. Once they saw the name(s) it was up to the them what they wanted to do with that information. Later

And didn't Omar, as Expos GM, trade Grady Sizemore, etal, for Livan Hernandez? oh, wait...never mind. Actually, the trade was Grady Sizemore, Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips and Lee Steevens for Bartolo Colon and Tim Drew. But Omar may be forgiven because it was a salary dump mandated by Expos management. IIRC MLB istelf was calling the shots in the last days of Les Expos. As for Bedard and Bay, they are from a backgrounds that are a continent, as well as linguistically, apart. I don't see an automatic affinity there. Going back to the potential starters, I would like to see Nieve have a real shot as the #5 starter. I saw some good things there before his injury last year. Later
  5. Thank you for posting that. Later
  6. OK, but let's get back to the theme of this thread, the Free Agent market. This is what I should have posted: With a lot of free agents signing elsewhere recently, Omar may have to go the trade route to improve the club. Later
  7. I have been an ardent fan of the team since its inception. But I cannot be Max, blindly overlooking what Nora Desmond has become. If all you want is happy happy, so it will have to be. Later
  8. Omar couldn't get laid if he walked into a cathouse with thousand dollar bills hanging out of his pockets. It's beginning to look recently (i.e. - post Bay) like no major free agent wants to be part of this team if they have any other options. So Omar may have to go the trade route to improve the club. Later
  9. As a high school pitcher who tried to come back from an arm injury in college, I'll try to shed some light. The previous posters had it. It involves a combination of Physics and muscle memory. Force = mass X acceleration. When throwing off a mound gravity comes into play, and throwing "downhill" adds a degree of acceleration that throwing off flat ground doesn't. And that additional force subjects the repaired injury, as well as the muscles that hadn't been fully used during rehab, to necessary stress testing. As for muscle memory, pitchers had probably been throwing off a mound since they were in school. It had become their "natural" throwing motion. It is necessary to re-train those muscles in a manner in which they will be used. Later

    Mini-Camp

If choosing between ham and turkey was one of Santanas concerns, well that could be a bad thing. He yelled out "turkey" and Omar entered the room. Coincidence? Later
  11. Regardless, Minaya feels like his winter work is largely complete, even as the Mets' roster continues to have openings. "We're close to the team that we're going to start with," Minaya said. I'm waiting with nervous anticipation until I find out how he defines the word "close". Later
  12. Some thoughts: I'd like to meet Ryne Duren and congratulate him on conquering demon drink. And I'd love to meet two of my all time favorite pitchers- Al Jackson and Bob Gibson. I met Whitey Ford often when I was a teenager - he used to bowl at an alley on Northern Blvd. on Saturday mornings. He bowled right handed, so as not to injure his pitching arm. (IIRC he was a 180+ bowler.) I'd tell Ron Davis that we'll be rootin' for his kid - Ike. I wonder if Phil Linz will play the harmonica for the crowd. Later
  13. I also read some writers a while back who pussy-footed around that Bedard might also have some head problems playing in NY. Nothing specific, just my reading between the lines. Later
  14. But he's nice to small animals? So, with some lower cost alternatives still out there, ....., why? Later
  15. I certainly wish him the best in his endeavor. A noble calling. But it also makes me hope that Jenrry Mejia is an athiest. Later
  16. It is Stokes, confirmed by Fox Sports. (The security on the computer where I am won't let me post the link). Later
  17. I had a Putney Swope commercial moment* when I read that Cory was second on the team last year with 5 triples. (To Pagan's 11) Later * if you don't know what that means, see the movie.
  18. Heard that other tweets are saying that this may be part of another, bigger, deal. Stay tuned. Later

  20. Speaking of F, Fernando Martinez had hit 5 hits in 6 AB yesterday (homer, 2B and 3 hits) Also with 6 RBI's...he has HR in two consecutive games in the final series of the DWL between Escogido and the Giants of Cibao. his line is .345/.333/.621 in 9 playoff games...an XBH machine right now.... * Hmmmmm. Later * = The numbers are from a subscription site.
