  1. Alex, we need a ruling on ex-pitcher Paul Moscau (pronounced Moscow). Later
  2. Davis, still tied for fifth on that list, makes me want to whimper. Later
  3. Who is going to break the news to Igarashi that he doesn't get a save? Later

Place names? Later Alex Trebek would ask you to be a little more specific before he'd give you credit for a correct response. Who are ballplayers who have the same names as cities, Alex? Later

  8. I remember a few years ago, the WFAN-droids were talking about trading for this great power hitting catching prospect on the Red Sox who was being blocked from the majors because Boston had Varitek. It was Kelly Shopach. Well, he made the majors, has been here awhile, and hasn't exactly lit it up. Prospects are just that - prospects. But you certainly have to try if the price (Flores plus maybe a mid tier prospect) is right. Later
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Ceetar wrote: And this one seems even easier to avoid. He'd need to play like 150 games in 2013 and the more he sucks, the more he'll get pinch hit for, the further down in the lineup he'll bat, etc. It's even simpler than that. They can (and likely will) just release him. If they do and another team signs him, they only have to pay him the major league minumum, with the Mets picking up the balance of his contract. What happens if he reaches the milestone in that other uniform? Are the Mets stuck with the extra year? Or the team that allowed him to reach the milestone? Later

  11. Just got home. Only was able to catch the bottom of the ninth in the car radio. The guys in the booth also commented that the Mets hadn't gotten a hit off the bullpen until the ninth. Hagin belaboring the obvious "All the hits were off the starter". From the box score, it looks like the losing run was put on by Thayer, but it was driven in off Parnell. Is that so? If they're grooming him to be an eighth inning guy or closer of the future, shouldn't he starting an inning? Later
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: Look folks, as much fun as it is to lump this all on Torre I think it's pretty clear that he's being used here as the pr guy. Selig's office probably said to itself; "Hey, we really suck at pr, but we also got Torre here on the payroll and he's from New York and everyone there likes him, so if anyone can smooth this mess over it'll be old Joe". Probably went down that way. Its the kind of thinking that all New York baseball fans hold hands and sing Kumbaya. It is the same kind of thinking that gave us a Brooklyn rotunda in the Mets ballpark. But that doesn't mean that Torre didn't relish the chance to stick it to the Mets, who once fired him. Yankee pinstripes don't fade easily. He's still JT,FS in my book. Later

  16. I knew Heath Bell and I shared a birthday. Hadn't known about Doc Medich. Thanks. Boy, there are a lot of short-Mets-careered players on that list I had liked but forgotten. (e.g. - Bill Sudakis, Roy Staiger and Buzz Capra) Later

  19. If I weren't aware of his contract situation, I'd swear Jason Bay has been on a salary drive. Later
