  1. There was a time when it seemed like you could have fielded a WBC winning baseball team just from the city of San Pedro de Macoris in the DR. From Wiki (yeah, I know, but its pretty close if not 100 % accurate): Players from the city with at least 400 games played or 250 innings pitched in the Major Leagues include: Manny Alexander Joaqun Andjar George Bell Daniel Cabrera Robinson Can Hctor Carrasco Rico Carty Luis Castillo Starlin Castro Jess Colom Johnny Cueto Mariano Duncan Tony Fernndez Pepe Fras Pedro Gonzlez Pedro Guerrero Jos Jimnez Manny Jimnez Manuel Lee Josas Manzanillo Guillermo Mota Jos Offerman Rafael Ramrez Ben Rivera Juan Samuel Julio Santana Alfonso Soriano Sammy Sosa Fernando Tats Salomn Torres Jos Valverde Later
  2. Is it possible to un-see something? That vision could stay with me for a long time. Later
  3. I started to discuss my amazement at all the Jeter references in an article about Wright with a virulent Yankee fan co-worker. He said that Jeter IS Captain America, and has been for 15 years. That I didn't Valdespin him is a tribute to both my self control and my merciful pity for lower phyla. Later
  4. The message is the same, but you wrote that better than O'Connor ever could have. Later

Her number was "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets", and you can find it on the cast recordings from both the Broadway show and the movie. Oh, you mean her phone number. If I could find THAT, I'd be playing centerfield and leading the Mets to the championship this year. It might be worth it. Later
  6. From Rotoworld: Daniel Murphy (intercostal strain) will take batting practice, run the bases, and field grounders and turn double plays on Wednesday. I wonder, If the Mets hadn't moved their ST facility from St. Pete to PSL, would he just have had a coastal strain? Later
  7. Vic Sage wrote: can't overcome non-roster status to take Hicks' spot. Only gets a callup if there's an injury. This, especially since Hicks has been hitting homers this spring. Later
  8. Fman99 wrote: Verlander threw the heater but it turned into a 'breaking ball.' Go to your room. That wasn't up (or is it down ?) to your normal standards. OK, I laughed. Later
  9. I hated "The Boy In The Plastic Bubble". But I'm not afraid to tell that to Lucas Duda. I can take him. Later
  10. I'm hoping that one day, they'll say WTF about his strikeouts and let him play, so he can turn out to be a lefty hitting this guy: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/thomago01.shtml But its not going to be this year, so: 246-7-35 in 50 games, with 80K on 240 AB. Later
  11. As Confucius said, "Act like a hot dog, get hit in the hot dog." Or, was that Early Wynn who said that? I forget. Later

  13. Saw this trivia question the other day, and never got the answer - who hit the first ever spring training home run for the Mets? EDIT: The guy who asked the question finally answered it. Choo Choo Coleman. Later
  14. According to ESPN New York, Mejia is being examined for a "thyroid problem". I wonder if Jose Reyes left Thyroid problems in the clubhouse as his legacy. Later
  15. 15-6, 3.34, 170 IP (they may limit him) 185K. All Star. Later
  16. It looks like Parnell has been grabbing at the closer spot this Spring, and I think he'll get it. So it's setup man for FF. Some closers don't take that too well, and I think Frankie will pout his way to a 2-2 4.06 in about 25 games before he is traded to a team that just had their closer injured. In that scenario, the Mets might even leverage him into a starting outfield prospect. Later
  17. Recent photos have shown he has trimmed the C. Everett Koop beard. I think he has the potential to be a contributor in a big way. His stuff does not melt the radar gun, but he did set a modern franchise record for strikeouts at Buffalo. He seems to know how to pitch and has good command of his pitches. I see a 13-8 3.96 year, in over 175 innings. (160K) Later
  18. 1-4 5.50 in about 14 games, 41 IP. Later
  19. Vic Sage wrote: he seems to be a double threat... he can't hit OR field. Well, at least he's consistent. .205 - 1- 11 before he is sent to the minors or released. Quintanilla deserves this spot, and will earn it ere long. Later

  21. I like the chance to look at minor leaguers we've only heard about but haven't seen. I Like to see how the position battles work themselves out. When a veteran is having a rough time, we hear "he's working on new things (swing or new pitches)". When a rookie hitter gets off to a hot start, we hear, "Wait until they start throwing breaking balls". Is it a veteran minor leaguer finally getting a chance? I remember Jim Gentile getting blocked for many years behind Gil Hodges in Brooklyn and Gus Triandos blocked by Yogi Berra. Maybe they can find a player like that. There are a lot of games to find out. But most of all, it is a harbinger of Spring, building anticipation for the coming season. Later
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: I didn't see/hear any of this but nice job piling on some runs towards the end and pulling out the tie after being down big earlier. I may be wrong on this but I believe they've tied every game played so far this spring; it's like their record is now 0-0-8 or something. Nope. The beat an American League team (the Tigers), so I guess they are just tied against major league competition. Those other guys play with funny rules. Later
  23. Heard Sandy say on WFAN today that Montero will most likely start the season at Binghamton. Later
  24. Not Johnny Bench, but once he comes up in May, I'll take a Ted Simmons year: .285- 16- 92. Later
  25. .278-38-118. Later
