  1. Santana threw a Perfect Game? 'Nuff said. Edit, beat to the punch about the perfecto. Later
  2. Please forgive the writer. He's off to cover the Underwater Pretzel Throw in Provo, Utah, or a yacht race somewhere. Maybe someday he'll be assigned to see an actual baseball game. Later
  3. That VYF (Virulent Yankee Fan) in my office took the day off to go to their opener. I was going to ask him how he liked the game. But the more I thought about it, that is something he would do if the situation were reversed. So I'm just going to sit at my desk, say nothing, and drive him bonkers waiting for me to say something. 5. Ceetar wrote: What do you think, 4:1 odds they sign Santana? Sure. He can take Feliciano's spot on the DL. Later

  7. Mr. Wheeler to the red phone in the lobby, please. Later
  8. Early Wynn's teenage son once got a hit off him during batting practice. Early knocked his kid down with his next pitch. That Wheeler throws a 97 MPH fastball, and hit one of his teammates after the teammate got a hit off him will be something batters will hear about and remember when they step in against him. It will be another weapon in his arsenal. Later

  11. The human being in me wishes him well. The fan in me wonders if there is an insurance policy that will pay (at least part of) his salary. Later

  13. G-Fafif wrote: Lukas says red, white and blue caps will be back for the Fourth of July. This is Memorial Day's salute (MLB overlooking that Memorial Day isn't exactly the same thing as Veterans Day). MLB used up all of its promotion brain cells with the Spiderman-on-the-bases idea. http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/4918975/ Later
  14. Fron CBS New York: SportsNet New York, better known as SNY, announced on Thursday that it has hired Valentine as an analyst for the Mets pre- and postgame shows before and after game telecasts. 17. Since my adoptees Lutz, Duda and Davis have moved up to the majors and out of my house, there is now room at the dinner table for another kid. So we're giving a home to a forgotten kid, the "other" player obained by the Mets in the R.A. Dickey trade - outfielder Wuilmer Becerra. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=becerr000wui Welcome to the family. Make us proud. Later
  18. I realize it will only be an American League team, but I'm guessing that Josh Thole will drop off that list in about a week. Later

  21. He was officially named Captain by Terry on SNY today. I tuned in during his presser, thought it might have been a re-run of an old one. But then they ran it as a scroll (like current stuff) at the bottom of the screen. Oh, David: .294 - 28 - 103. Later
  22. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: They also like Laffey but see him as a starter candidate, The Puma reports. The Cougar reading the Puma? There's got to be a joke in there somewhere. If someone finds one, please post it. I'll be outside shoveling my driveway and thinking of the first day of Spring. Later

  24. .278 - 17 - 68 in 145 games, playing wherever Terry needs him. Hey, if they finally convinced him to wear a cup, anything's possible. Later
