  2. "Start Spraying the News" did it for me. I voted "Champs". Another thought for you professional writer types - Why do newspapers use an apostrophe in Amazin's? It shouldn't be there unless its a possessive, right? Like the plural of Pizza isn't Pizza's. Later
  3. Nymr83 wrote: Nice to see Beccera showing up in so many places, the Dickey Trade is the gift that keeps on giving Unfortunately, he has been left off the 40 man roster and exposed to the upcoming Rule V Draft. He may be giving his gifts to some other team next year. Later
  4. He hates the Mets, doesn't he? Later
  5. There was a KC first round pick in 1971 named (Alan or Roger) Schmuck. In German, it means "Jewelry". In colloquial Yiddish, it means the, er, "family jewels". Later
  6. Derek Jeter was interviewed by some YLDB Toady the other day, and he denied the "gift bag" stories. He and the toady had a big laugh about it. (It looked like the toady was getting paid by the laugh.) I wonder what the girl who got two of them thought about that. Later
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: Those of you who paid attention to the above advice from your Unca Frayed were rewarded with the answer to Friday's 'Final Jeopardy' which ended their 'Tournament of Champions' contest. Only one of the three contestants (not the winner) knew the correct answer/question. Category = Philosophers A: His last name means a type of burial place & in 1855 that's where he went. Q: Who is Soren Kierkegaard You're welcome. I always pay attention to you, Unca Frayed. Later
  8. I couldn't read the fine print on the latest graphic, but according to SNY, Nimmo, Lugo, Walters, Gsellman were added to the 40-man roster. That means Becerra wasn't. Later
  9. I remember getting excited over his minor league K/IP numbers. The Mets have searching high and low for a lefty reliever and then get rid of the Leather Rocket? Puzzling. Later
  10. He was the hot speculation trading target earlier this year, when wright's return/status wasn't known. But I'm with JCL on this one. No incremental benefit to doing this, not even knowing who the Mets would give up. Later
  11. RealityChuck wrote: Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish I saw him pitch when he was with Cleveland. And every announcer would tell the listeners Cal's full name every time he pitched. I guess they thought it was funny. Later
  12. Saturnino Orestes Armas (Arrieta) Minoso I think his brother's name was Mickey. Later

Now that he has rejected the QO, isn't there a rule about the earliest they can re-sign him? IIRC its well into Spring Training. (or has that changed?) Later
  14. Ty Tyson? Did his parents have Tourette's? Or just a stutter? Later
  15. Zobrist is a valuable asset to a contending team. Worth kicking the tires to see what he'd cost. As mentioned in this thread, length of contract (up to three years) shouldn't be a major factor at his age because speed is not a big part of his game. Later
  16. Any newspaper that uses "Mess" for "Mets" should be boycotted. The sports editor should call in the headline writer and slap him up 'side the head. Later
  17. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Of course they wouldn't. It would be Betts OR Bogaerts but not both of them. Didn't someone say in another thread that nobody in the front office looks here for guidance? It was a WATP, and this is the season for them, isn't it? Why not ask for the moon? Let's find out how much they really want Harvey. Its all for fun. Later
  18. OK, Betts and Bogaerts for Harvey, Nimmo and Cecilliani(or Reynolds). Get it done. And if they throw in Schilling's bloody sock, we can throw in Bobby Parnell, too. Later
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Handed out regardless of league, but most of these guys are National Leaguers That's because the National League plays baseball they way its supposed to be played. Every player on every roster is expected to be able to field his position(or at least try). None of those "hitter only" players for us. Later
  20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Willets Point would surely know better than I would, but I get the sense that there's been a fair amount of background buzz in Boston about Matt Harvey being a Red Sock in 2016. There were a lot of stories/ sound bytes floating around a few months ago (later on Yahoo sports) in which several BoSox reporters were heard on WEEI radio (The Boston equivalent of WFAN) discussing how good Harvey would be atop their rotation. And, according to them, Matt is very high on their trading list. This wasn't caller blithering, this was guys who cover the team. Also- because the sports reporters on 3 of the 4 Connecticut TV stations think they're applying for jobs in Boston, they give us a lot of Boston sports results and even lead with Boston sports news. They have made similar comments about Harvey being a BoSox target, but I'm not sure if they were rehashing the comments made on WEEI. Later
  21. If he's that good, why are they trading him? If they have someone in the minors who they think is better, why not go for that guy? The price might be cheaper, since that player hasn't proven himself in the majors yet. And if they're going to get the inexperienced player, they might as well wait for Rosario, because reports indicate he'll be worth the wait. Pass on Simmons, unless the asking price is less than reported. Later
  22. Lou Brock, a player famous for using his legs* has had one amputated below the knee. https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/hall-of-famer-lou-brock-recovering-after-partial-amputation-of-left-leg-003749704.html?soc_src=mail&soc_trk=ma Wishing one of the class acts of his era all the best. Later *= he was also one of only three players to hit a home run into the centerfield bleachers in the Polo Grounds.

  24. Will they trade him to the Dallas Cowboys? Later
  25. Centerfield wrote: Good article. I don't know if he's right, but I like the size of the contracts he is predicting for the top line guys. None seem overly stupid. I don't get the buzz around Desmond. .674 OPS with 27 errors. A team with Ian Desmond should be looking to upgrade by getting a guy like Wilmer Flores. Exactly. Wilmer showed over the last half of the season and in the post season that he is capable of handling the position defensively. There are other holes to be filled during the off season - second base, center field, third base, bench and bullpen that have a higher priority. Later
