  1. Well, that's one way to describe it: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/justin-verlander-laughed-saying-astros-122334554.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/sports/justin-verlander-laughed-saying-astros-122334554.html Later
  2. His credentials are so good, it makes me wonder why they hired Beltran in the first place. It seems like he checked off more qualification boxes (except for being a well known ex-player) than Beltran did. And, I'm doing a happy dance that it wasn't Dusty. Later

  5. Like many ground balls, the opportunity for unanimous election passed Jeter by. Later

  7. Hold your nose and keep a barf bag handy- an article that says Jeter may be underrated!! https://www.mlb.com/news/derek-jeter-an-all-time-great-hitting-shortstop?partnerId=zh-20200120-156907-47943&query_id=1026&bt_ee=iZZD5G5ucz6g4Wl6ZSMjt7hEpGNyEwkB0b5eXU0qlGsLXBTPK8925DTijoXKZmsl&bt_ts=1579523828369https://www.mlb.com/news/derek-jeter-an-all-time-great-hitting-shortstop?partnerId=zh-20200120-156907-47943&query_id=1026&bt_ee=iZZD5G5ucz6g4Wl6ZSMjt7hEpGNyEwkB0b5eXU0qlGsLXBTPK8925DTijoXKZmsl&bt_ts=1579523828369 SPOILER ALERT: the part where he says "If you take defense out of it.." is like saying, "Other than the result General Custer, how did the battle go?" 8. =whippoorwill post_id=30119 time=1579458002 user_id=79] Okay so if you discount all that errorship, can you agree the performances were good? Plus did you really know all that stuff when you walked into the theatre?
  9. =G-Fafif post_id=30120 time=1579461496 user_id=55] Matt Wieters re-signs with Cardinals.

  11. The 53rd home run was an all-time feat and deserves enshrinement as the most memorable moment of the past season. Later

  13. A "local kid" who fit perfectly into the history of the Mets - a second baseman who was good - before he came here. Later
  14. On WFAN today, the host was saying that Cee Cee has been whining publicly about how the MFYs wuz robbed because Huston had an unfair advantage.. How about all those steroid-stuffed MFY teams playing in a bandbox, fat boy? STFU! Later
  15. =whippoorwill post_id=30054 time=1579379953 user_id=79] Watched it today and I don't know what the eff you guys were watching but I thought it was sensational
  16. The Baseball America Almanac for 2020 does NOT have Pete Alonso on the cover. The cover is usually reserved for the player from the prior year who had the most outstanding season. I guess leading both leagues in Home Runs and setting all time rookie and team home run records wasn't outstanding enough for them. It has some Los Angeles NL guy who didn't lead his team or league in or to anything except total bases (by 3??? over Pete). And since it was sold in the NY area (Connecticut, actually) I'm guessing it is the only cover they used. I sent them a message on their website asking why they did that and have not yet received a response. Later
  17. =G-Fafif post_id=29552 time=1578704580 user_id=55] Hal Smith, the Pirate catcher whose eighth-inning three run homer in Game Seven of the 1960 World Series set the stage for Bill Mazeroski an inning later, 89.

David Wright would be far more likely on the 'ex player' list, especially considering the "they are already paying him" angle Heaven help us! But speaking of that, if they want someone squeaky clean, a great motivator, and already on the payroll, how about Tim Teb .... I can't finish that. Later
  19. Considering the Wilpons' reputation for throwing nickels around like manhole covers, I'll just guess it is someone already on the payroll. Collins and Perez are in that category. Later
  20. At least Alex can feel good that he's better looking than his brother Joey. IIRC, there was one baseball card picture in which Joey (wearing a turtleneck under his uniform) looked like E.T. Later
  21. Frayed Knot wrote: Wow, four years for Donaldson! At a just-turned 34 he's not that old, but at this time last year the one-year deal he got from the Braves was considered risky on account of age and past injuries. They will be able to forget about his age (or at least his glove) in the American League because of that, you know, silly DH rule. Later
  22. =G-Fafif post_id=29617 time=1578940813 user_id=55] Still think the Gary Carter Spring Training Complex would be a nice umbrella for the whole spread.
  23. Because I can't think of a more over-praised New York baseball player than Derek Jeter. I remember when there would be a countless baseball magazine cover articles each year proclaiming Bobby Richardson "The most underrated player in baseball". In my circle of friends, he was "the most overrated underrated player in baseball". Later

  25. And there was the "best Hitchcock movie he never made" - Charade. (Directed by Stanley Donen) I wonder what Hitchcock thought of it. Later
