That stuff has been going on for years. The guy with the "sick relative" tried to buy our Tom Seaver bobble-head dolls.(My wife and I each got one and still have them.) We said "sorry" but were thinking "Are you f-ing kidding?" Later

Didn't see any of this in Sherman's column. This is the Post article that talks about McNeil's down numbers wrt the new shift rules: https://nypost.com/2023/07/17/jeff-mcneils-mysterious-slump-might-stem-from-mlb-shift-change/https://nypost.com/2023/07/17/jeff-mcneils-mysterious-slump-might-stem-from-mlb-shift-change/ Later

Basketball player Adrian (Odie) Smith used to end every sentence with ""You know". And that's EVERY sentence. It made listening to him in a post game interview torture. People who are going to do a lot of public speaking should join a group like Toastmasters (If that's still around). When you give your first speeches, they assign "um" and "er" counters. They remind you after every speech how many times you do it in order to help you stop saying them. Later

More signing news:(for those of you who get pop-ups on their site) The Mets have signed first pick Colin Houck. The Mets have also officially signed the following picks: RHP Austin Troesser ($128,200 underlsot), sixth rounder RHP Jack Wenninger ($74,800 underslot), seventh rounder Noah Hall ($58,750 underslot), ninth rounder 3B Nick Lorusso ($125,100 underslot), and 10th rounder C Christian Pregent ($115,800 underslot). The Mets have also signed undrafted free agent RHP Dakota Hawkins to a six-figure signing bonus. The biggest bonus given by the Mets prior to Houck signing was for eighth round prep shortstop Boston Baro that got $700,000. Baro's pick had a slot value of $192,900. Houck instantly becomes one of the Mets' top five prospects in their farm system. https://metsmerizedonline.com/mets-sign-first-rounder-colin-houck/https://metsmerizedonline.com/mets-sign-first-rounder-colin-houck/ Later

Here's a recap of all the draftees, with some scouting notes on each one. https://www.sny.tv/articles/mets-2023-mlb-draft-recap-breaking-down-23-picks?fbclid=IwAR3EjIgjCOoLjmWZ1a4duMiGqR4K4SrsYA2MJmeOUJLxcU_HET3nwxPy58ohttps://www.sny.tv/articles/mets-2023-mlb-draft-recap-breaking-down-23-picks?fbclid=IwAR3EjIgjCOoLjmWZ1a4duMiGqR4K4SrsYA2MJmeOUJLxcU_HET3nwxPy58o The #8 draftee, Boston Baro, a shortstop - "Power isn't a big part of his game right now, but possible he can grow into average power." That reminded of the Baseball Digest scouting report on Bud Harrelson. It said "Good power for a shortstop". You never know. Later
