  1. Have a great time and boo Utley for All of us. Later
  2. well, the good news is, they kept Freddy F'n Freeman in check. SM= 9.7 Later
  3. If they're going to sell (or trade) veterans who other teams might want, Adam Ottavino should be on that list. Later
  4. However they're pitching to Will Smith, they should try something else. Later
  5. It will also allow them to send him down to the minors to "rehab", which means time to work out his problems and hopefully regain confidence. Later
  6. One who surprised me one was Bader. I would have guessed, based on the number of key runs he's driven in, that his number would have been higher. The others look consistent with the eye test. Later
  7. Edgy MD wrote: I didn't say I preferred one over the other. This is silly. Of course you did. You literally wrote that you thought a voodoo shrine was needed. You literally wrote that it would take Ernie Banks in his prime to make a difference. "Of course you did" ??? No I didn't. It happened to be the sequence in which I wrote them but had nothing to do with, nor did I use the word "prefer"., nor did I mean to imply preference. That was your interpretation. Later
  8. I didn't say I preferred one over the other. We have both recognized the need for a reserve infielder such as Iglesias to balance the roster (and give some others a rest). But I feel the hitting needs a boost that a reserve infielder could not provide. They need more. The Jobu figure was in jest. But when you said they need another infielder, I felt it would have to be a strong bat and Banks was the first analogy I thought of. And I named a name. At this point, I'd take anyone who can jump start the offense. Who would you suggest? Later
  9. (because, as John Franco alleged, he "has a plane to catch") - If we had known that, many fans (and players) would have driven him to the airport before the game. Later
  10. What kind of infielder do you suggest they need to get this team going? Later
  11. The way this team is hitting, that infielder would have to be Ernie Banks in his prime to make any difference. Later
  12. Time to build a shrine to Jobu in the locker room. Later
  13. Don't fret. Just when you think they've hit the floor and can't go any lower, they will. I'm not sure whether it is approach they're being taught, inability to hit, or they really do just choke. But something has to change. Later
  14. My dad (may he rest in Peace) passed away in 1997 at the age of 90. He was a baseball fan all his life. He saw them all, including Cobb, Hornsby, Ruth, Gehrig, Williams, Musial, Aaron and Mays. I once asked him who was the best hitter he ever saw. Without any hesitation, he said, "Josh Gibson". Just sayin'. Later
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Joe West was a proud ump. With a chip on shoulder. If you complain about one call, he's going to make sure you don't get the next call. And probably one after that. Old man pride is a bad form of pride. My friends and I used to say that about Lee Weyer. We called him 'The bully". He used his imposing physical size to intimidate managers during arguments, leaning close and towering over them in face to face situations.. Didn't stop him from being elected to the Hall of Fame, though. Later
  16. About effing time. The IN-COM-PE-TENT cheer will have to be put aside for a while. Later
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Pud Galvin is a legend. But alas, he's a Galvin, not a Gavin. Your "Galvinic Circles" got me. Later
  18. Because of the story of his struggle to get to the majors, Jay is gone, but not forgotten. Later
  19. If you count last names, Pud Galvin won over 300 games and is in the HOF. Later
  20. We celebrated Lag B'Omer... the "B" stands for Bader. You have to spend it outside. What better choice than a ball game? We had a family barbecue and missed the game. Later
  21. What am I going to do? I'm going to wonder why they just didn't bring up Iglesias. Later
  22. F'n nepo baby. And I didn't like his father, either. Later
