metirish wrote: No Sandy did not have that but his numbers are just cool.. http://www.baseball-reference.com/k/koufasa01.shtml Heh. One of the funniest things I've ever hear a sports radio host do to an ignorant caller happened one day when a young caller called Russ Salzberg on WFAN. The caller said he looked at Koufax's stats and wondered "Where's The Beef" and Russ laid into him like the caller was defacing a sacred landmark. What made it funny was, Russ didn't actually answer the question, just basically acted all "How dare YOU QUESTION the greatness of Sandy Koufax ya punk!" and hung up the phone! I really wonder how Salzberg lasted as long as he did on that station

Heh, ARod with a HR to put the Skanks ahead, but yeah he's not clutch!

="abogdan"]The late, great Ray Traylor once wrestled as The Guardian Angel between stints as the Big Boss Man. Heh, no relation! No clue if Sliwa even knows about what WCW was back in those days (or even if he knows anything from the current pro-wrestling scene) Would have been funny as hell if he did and tried to sue WCW! Around the same time they had a masked wrestler in a yellow and blue suit with some VERY familiar markings, named "Aranchid-Man"

Which is odd coming from a fellow who looks like he hasn't realized that the 80's ended 17 years ago! Mr. Sliwa has surrived couple of Gangland attacks by the way

Listened to a MFY Fan named Curtis Sliwa trash Pedro for this this morning on WABC radio, 77AM here in New York City. Course he hates Pedro since the Red Sox days, and hates the Mets since childhood, and I'm not sure a guy that dresses like this should be making comments about people's toughness:

83 and WP, the OP by Elster had to do with the fact that Elster and Mazzilli had that Boy Toy look that jealous guys tend to say "Awww he's obviously gay" about. Think Derek Jeter, Keith Hernandez, Mike Piazza, ect, basically their manhood is questioned because, they tend to court the ladies and play the part of a great romancier. AAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNYYYYYY Way, Bret noticed that when Ellie was at the Maz Avatar level (Elster is now at the more "manly" I guess Bobby Jones level) that it made for an "Ambigously Gay Duo" type of combination, like Met Fans do when they see Jeter and ARod in the same photo. Elster agreed and suggested other combos, specfically Piazza and Elster. Apparantly this disscussion has ended since the page has been edited

I side with wanting to not even to THINK about the Braves untill we play them again in late July. In other words I don't want to see the Braves hovering on the fringe of the Mets-Phillies race in August, which is where they tend to make their push (see last year) towards yet another divisional title. Wild Card will probably again be from the Central, so thats why it's important for the Mets-Phils to get the Braves so far in back that they can't knaw their way back into the thick of the race like they've done year after year, after year, after year...

Uh Yance, I can't seem to find that post with your official criteria for head shots, so do you mind posting it. I think its more than just the All-Blue Cap
-
Great stuff G, but the reason Yance doesn't just swipe every headshot image from MLB.com's Mets page and the "Official Headshots" is that he actually wants the images to be, well Metologically correct. With a Blue topped hat on. There is an actual criteria list somewhere, I'd have to search for it on some old UMDB Request thread...

By the way, great suggestion, can you embed the instrumental Meet The Mets into the Mug shot page? Seems like every time I click on it that song enters my head, be nice if the rest of the Net had that experience every time looking at that huge page

Elster88 wrote: ="Bret Sabermetric"]The Kaz-Victor contest now has a victor, and it ain't Victor. Fix this in ten minutes, Peterson, expert handler of pitcher's arms and careers. Kaz now has 4 times as many victories as Victor In-Name-Only in 2006 and twice as many IP, figures that of course can only get higher as the season goes on. Kaz is now 10th in the AL in ERA, while Victor is probably somewhere in the NL's bottom 5 with a season's ERA of 6.75. The big difference of course is that Victor's arm is now totally screwed up, and Kaz's is healthy, and that was most of the rationale behind swapping them--they feared that Kaz's arm wouldn't hold up. Good one, assholes. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7292 http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6752 I wanted to post my own "I told you so" message (aimed at Mets' management of course, I don't remember anyone here saying Kazmir/Zambrano was a good trade), but I think Bret's will do just nicely. The only media guy I know of who actually was for the trade when it happened was Wally Matthews, then on 1050 ESPN Radio. Essentially saying that he didn't know anything about Kazmir and knew that Zambrano was a Major League caliber starting pitcher and that it was a sign that the Mets were going for the pennant RIGHT NOW! Funny thing is, and probably why I remember it, he did a complete 180 after the Mets lost that first weekend series after the deals, saying it and the Benson trade were horrid deals, and that the Mets should start trading off all the veterans (specifically Leiter and Glavine) and stock pile youngsters his next show I think he pulled a hammy backpeddling!

This is the same guy who was convinced the last two Aprils that Roger Clemens was a sinch to be in Yankee Pinstripes because of a "handshake" agreement (which eventually became something actually written into the contract) between Roger and Drayton McLane that guarantee that if Roger requested he'd be traded back to New York, no questions asked. To discuss everything in a paper at face value even though there isn't any tangilble difference between what Jon Heyman says and if Greg at FAFIF, would say if he heard the same thing from someone in the front office? Or even if I came on this board and said I heard the same thing. Or if Chris Russo said he heard it from a "Little Birdie" on his radio program Unless I, Heyman or Greg or Russo revealed exactly whom we heard the tidbit from I would take that tidbit with a grain of salt. Not sure if there is kernel of truth in it or not, if there is, then that would be the job of an investigative minded reporter, and that would be who I'd trust more than someone who either paid for their opinion (Russo/Heyman) or spouts their opinion (Me/Greg) and occasionally will have nuggets of information that may or may not be verified because the person spoting the nuggets doesn't reveal exactly who they got the nugget from Bret Sabermetric Posted: Sun May 07, 2006 1:49 pm Post subject: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You may want to open up a different thread to discuss this in, but I think there's far more latitude granted to reporters and columnists using unsourced material to based pro-Mets speculation on than there is for using anti-Mets stuff. Basically, you'd have about a third of the sportswriting if you demanded hard, multi-sourced, OTR material for every bit of Mets coverage, but you only object to it when it implies an anti-Mets stance. I think your rooting interest prevernts you from seeing this, so you think you're just objecting to unsourced material in principle, but actually the sports pages would dry up completely if you kept to the high standard you're calling for here. Fair enough, I didn't say they shouldn't print it, I'm just saying everything printed by a columnist should be taken as 100% gospel. If I were a Met beat reporter (especially Newsday's) I'd be on the phone right now with contacts in the Mets Front Office and Glavine's agent's office seeing if there is a kernnel of truth in it and/or why I haven't heard about this before (assuming that I wasn't one of those sitting on the story)
