  1. 6!
  2. 7
  3. The Braves have also played 13 games in a row without an off day. (Insert joke here about games against Washington being a half-day off).
  4. Don't forget the racist chants. Lots of bad juju in that place.
  5. Tim Healey of Newsday reporting: [bLOCKQUOTE]All of these are in play for Mets-Atlanta this weekend, according to a source: * changing the Friday game from night to day * a split doubleheader Sunday * using next Thursday (Oct. 6) to make up one or two games if they are needed to decide the NL East[/bLOCKQUOTE] —- Needless to say, expecting these teams to play 1 (or 2!) games on 10/6 is completely unreasonable.
  6. Oops! The MLB.com standings page is listing the Giants as eliminated in the Wild Card race.
  7. =Fman99 post_id=108878 time=1664371899 user_id=86] Split doubleheaders suck. Fuck these teams and MLB for squeezing every last nickel out of fans during a hurricane.
  8. One correction to above: the Giants have been eliminated.
  9. Should it matter for WS home field advantage: Mets are 5 games behind the Astros, and do not have the tiebreaker, meaning they need to finish 1 game ahead. With 7 games remaining, this is likely a lost cause. Mets are +1.5 over the Yankees. Too early to calculate the applicable tiebreaker (intradivison record). Mets have clinched a better record than any other potential AL playoff team.
  10. The Nationals games referenced above (vs Mets) are at Citi Field. I don't see a situation in which those are affected (unless there's bad weather in NY).
  11. It strikes me as odd to see the NHOP above .500 when the teams are tied in the standings. The Mets and Braves could each go 4-3 down the stretch, remain tied at the end of the season, but if the Mets have won 1 of the 3 games in Atlanta, they get the tiebreaker and the division. Example: Mets win Wed vs MIA Mets win Fri at ATL Mets lose Sat at ATL Mets lose Sun at ATL Mets win 2 of 3 vs WAS 4 happy outcomes of 7. Braves win Wed at WAS Braves lose Fri vs NYM Braves win Sat vs NYM Braves win Sun vs NYM Braves lose 2 of 3 at MIA 3 happy outcomes of 7. Cumulative: 7 happy outcomes out of 14 (.500) (Alternately, if we only count the Mets/Braves games as having only one “outcome,” then it's 6 happy outcomes of 11, which then is .546 — but then the outcomes aren't all created equal).
  12. I didn't have the best angle to see it but my take was no; there were a LOT of lucky dinks, including at least 2 that sounded like broken bats.
  13. Diaz was also good.
  14. Buck needs to hit for McCann here.
  15. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they win 1. They had better roll over and play dead for us next week.
  16. One would expect the Braves would think carefully about what serves them best. Obviously there is a financial component with big crowds expected for all 3 games. But if there were to be 2 days of washouts, a doubleheader on Sunday would still leave a meaningful game to be made up. Making up that game on Thursday, October 6 would be very unappealing to the losing team (which would have to play the wild card series starting the next day). There is also the possibility it won't matter, but that's not going to be known in advance. Interestingly, the Mets and Braves both have an off day Thursday. They conceivably consider moving Friday's game forward one day if Friday weather looked like a washout.
  17. It doesn't seem practicable to start scheduling around religious holidays, given the length of the schedule. There are of course games regularly scheduled on all sorts of holidays across many religions.
  18. 58 1/3 with one scheduled start to go.
  19. ??
  20. Not just “basically;” those are the only two possible seeings. As #4, if they win the WC series (likely against the Padres), they face the Dodgers in the DS. As #2, they would face the Cardinals/Phillies (or Brewers) winner in the DS.
  21. Mets: 103-59. Win division by 1 game. Mets over Cardinals in 3. Mets over Dodgers in 7. Mets over Yankees in 6 (yes, I said it).
  22. With the threat of Hurricane-related weather complications, there is a non-zero chance of needing to play the games against the Braves somewhere else. Neutral sites available this weekend include domed stadiums in Miami and Tampa (though Tampa could also be hit by the hurricane) as well as Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and Philadelphia. Miami may be preferred since Atlanta is headed there anyway to finish the season. Precedent for moving games due to Hurricane: 2004: Marlins vs Expos, at Comiskey Park in Chicago 2008: Houston vs Cubs, at Miller Park in Milwaukee 2017: Houston vs Texas, at Tropicana Field in Tampa 2017: Tampa vs Yankees, at Citi Field Additionally, there is also precedent to just move these games to Citi Field (the Braves can play as the “home team”): 2010: because of the G20 Summit, three Phillies at Blue Jays games were moved to Philadelphia. 2011: because of scheduling conflicts regarding time required to construct the stage for a U2 concert, 3 Mariners at Marlins games were moved to Seattle.
  23. The Guardians, having clinched the AL Central, can no longer be a wild card team. Guardians can only be the #3 seed (unless they win out and the other New York team loses out).
  24. 8
  25. With two out in the 9th, Schwarber walks and is pulled for a pinch runner. If there were no outs, sure. But 2 outs and taking his bat out for extras is curious.
