  1. The Volstad Act prohibited the Mets from being swept by the Marlins. The Volstead Act was something else altogether.

  3. Tatis could use a start. He hasn't had a hit in a month. Lefty going, it's all taking place in what amount to international waters, why not?
  4. To be fair to the Mets, they haven't asked a soul to vote for Daniel Murphy or Carlos Beltran this year. But what the hell is CB doing on the ballot? Murphy was penciled in 'til the final weekend of spring training, OK, but Beltran's been out since January. Not that Gary Matthews Jr. on the ballot would have looked any better.

  6. Paid for by the committee to give Placido Polanco a blow, some pessimistic moron Mets fan chairman.
  7. Ceetar wrote: G-Fafif wrote: "So come on you pessimistic morons and vote for David Wright 25 times!" Now that's a slogan we can all get behind. Maybe it just needs the right twist.."Vote for Polanco to get a much needed nap and spend three days on the couch!" "Make Placido's All-Star break that much more placid."
  8. On page 1 of today's game notes, here, the world that doesn't read CPF or FAFIF learns that a Met record has just been tied regarding homegrown starting infields.

  10. 1959 to 1962 -- also proved a bit too much of a good thing in public perception.

The voting system is just such a thorough insult to my sensibilities, it's just too depressing to validate it with my participation. Hmmmm. Can I borrow your e-mail address..... Sounds like you've been covering politics lately.

  13. I got caught up in Wright Fever and cast several ballots moments ago. I certainly hope whichever non-MFYs I all but randomly chose on the A.L. side appreciate my support as well.
  14. Dumb thought: is it too late for Valentine to jump into the Connecticut Republican Senatorial Primary race and beat Linda McMahon? For a year (middle of seventh to middle of eighth grade), I was classmates with one of the other candidates: . He talks about his Connecticut roots, but our junior high was on Long Island (and nowhere near the Sound) and he had moved up from Miami. Bobby V could filibuster with the best of 'em.
  15. Dave Lennon reporting: Now very loud thunderstorms in the neighborhood. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Puerto Rico...or as Jay Ferguson calls it, Thunder Island!
  16. I think one of these days Joe is going to find himself disappearing from MFY photographs like some disgraced Politburo member from the Stalin era. Cue the John Sterling voiceover for Yankeeography: Derek Jeter Vol. XXXII It was the first of FOUR Yankee World Championships captured under the guidance of the young player-manager...

Can any team that isn't or wasn't Canadian say or ever been able to say that? The Mets played the Blue Jays in Toronto 7/15-7/17/2000 and then played the Expos on 7/18 and 7/19 in Montreal. That's pretty good. Obviously this is the franchise the world wants to see.

  19. Ensuing debate on offense notwithstanding, this was meant as an expression of exhilaration over the defense demonstrated thus far in their young career as a unit. The exhilaration continues here.
  20. I've got Ban Johnson's signature on the bottom of my shoe -- and I'm coming back for more in October.
  21. Two different blogs (Real Dirty Mets Blog and Centerfield Maz) each wished Mike a happy birthday. He turned 59 on Thursday. No need to look up current players, perhaps. They're doing their Ultimate on the field.
  22. Casey Fossum is pitching and blogging Japanese style. Also, Jon Heyman's reporting he'll be managing the Marlins any day now.
  23. To pick up on an earlier thread, an definitive account of Mets 2010 walkup music here. Author of report does not approve of most of what the Mets swing to.
