  1. Hey, hey, Jason Bay How many Mets Did you strand today?
  2. Hanson isn't as cute as he was when "MmmBop" came out.
  3. Pelfdini escapes...again!
  4. Pelfdini needs another out.
  5. Last thing on Mike Pelfrey's mind: Being snubbed for the All-Stars.
  6. Big city markets get All-Stars elected. Just ask Evan Longoria and Ryan Braun.
  7. Jose Reyes: most expressive Met face since Al Leiter.
  8. Pure hustle from Omar Infante. Well, it was.
  9. That was a home run at Shea. (I say that about every deep fly ball that doesn't go out of Citi, conveniently forgetting there weren't that many home runs flying out of Shea.)
  10. That was great -- Pagan was doubling to second live (or live-ish, since the radio is well ahead of the Foxcast) and then they cut to the between inning tape of Manuel, and Pagan was walking in front of the dugout. That Angel, he's everywhere!
  11. Thole a smart kid to be hanging out with Dickey on the bench -- why yes, I am his personal catcher, keep me on the roster.
  12. It's raining 20 or so miles south and east of Citi Field.
  13. A friend of mine who attended Mets games at the Polo Grounds and was at Shea for the first-ever night game is making his Citi Field debut today. Win this one for Joe!
  14. Reserving the right to change my mind, but I kind of liked Kevin Millar last week, until late in the game, anyway, when I hated everybody. There was a hint of Dizzy Dean to him. I had dreaded the Buck-McCarver combo, per usual. Buck still sucks, but at least it was different. Albert's a pro (a legacy broadcaster who appears to have worked at his craft, as opposed to Joe Buck). Hopefully he'll keep Millar on the relatively straight and narrow. I think he has potential. Couldn't believe how much I didn't hate Millar, actually. I hate Eric Karros, to use an example of Fox dragging someone into the booth just off the playing field. Mark Grace is another one who's awful. A Mets win makes everybody sound better...except for Joe Buck. And I didn't care for his father either.
  15. Dickey 4.0 Reyes 0.5 Wright 0.5 Pagan 0.5 Thole 0.5
  16. Cam set off fireworks on the Fifth of July: a double and a triple while grilling two ribeye steaks (per Mr. Hernandez) in four at-bats. An ohfer three days later brought him back to earth a bit. In four games this Gulf Coast season he's posting .308/.438/.538 and has yet to get in trouble with the law as far as I can tell.
  17. If only Ryota Igarashi had played in the 1970s and showed up in every other pack.
  18. Once more, with your 25-man roster complete: The starting lineup for your National League East All-Time Team: C: Gary Carter, MON/NYM 1B: Keith Hernandez, STL/NYM 2B: Ryne Sandberg, PHI/CHI SS: Ozzie Smith, STL 3B: Mike Schmidt, PHI LF: Tim Raines, MON CF: Andre Dawson, MON/FLA RF: Vladimir Guerrero, MON The reserves: C: Mike Piazza, FLA/NYM 1B: Willie Stargell, PIT 2B: Chase Utley, PHI SS: Jose Reyes, NYM 3B: Chipper Jones, ATL LF: Barry Bonds, PIT CF: Andruw Jones, ATL RF: Darryl Strawberry, NYM UT: Todd Zeile: STL/PHI/FLA/NYM/MON The pitching staff: RHP: Tom Seaver, NYM RHP: Greg Maddux, CHI/ATL RHP: John Smoltz, ATL LHP: Steve Carlton, STL/PHI LHP: Tom Glavine, ATL/NYM RP: Bruce Sutter, CHI/STL RP: Lee Smith, CHI/STL/MON RP: Pedro Feliciano, NYM The manager is Bobby Cox, his coaches are Davey Johnson and Bobby Valentine. Now get out and beat the crap out of the American League Central!
  19. A late and calculated switch (I'd originally voted for Willie Harris since our team does not have a National...but screw them) gives the Extra Non-Met (non-exclusive Met anyway) slot to Todd Zeile. Zeile will be valuable to N.L. East manager Bobby Cox as he can fill in at third, first and behind the plate. Remember Todd Zeile came up as an N.L. East catcher with the Cardinals and went out an N.L. East catcher, his very last game, with the Mets. Plus, he can pitch, should Seaver, Carlton, Maddux, et al really get into trouble.
  20. Feliciano indeed gets into the game, defeating the Krane (and Ron Hodges). He is your All-N.L. East Extra Met and a handy reliever to have, no doubt.

I had got Westrum and Torborg pretty much by process of elimination, but never would have gotten Bamberger. (He was one of the ones I eliminated. I completely forgot about his post-Met fate.) Sam here. I got Westrum easily because I'm currently reading Ryczek's Amazing Mets. I should write a post about that book in the What are You Reading thread. Ryczek wrote what might be the best Mets book ever (historical category). Flogged that book on multiple occasions. It's fantastic. Every serious Mets fan should read it.
