  1. Such antipathy to the black uniform tops that it has produced apathy in answering the questions on the table. So the answers: First Met to debut in black: Masato Yoshii, starting pitcher the first day the Mets wore them, April 5, 1998. Seven shutout innings, strikeouts, three hits en route to a 7-0 Mets win. First Met to drive in runs in black: Butch Huskey had the first RBI, though Bernard Gilkey hit the ball that produced the first two runs..but he wasn't credited with RBIs because Pirates third baseman Freddy Garcia made a throwing error. First Met to record a putout in black: Huskey again, on a Tony Womack fly to right.
  2. It's a rainy night in Flushing, but not at The Happiest Recap. 037: 1973 -- Mets win in 19 in L.A., which makes it very late or early in N.Y. 038: 1981/1 -- Lousy team pounds world champs; fan self-esteem briefly rises 039: 1981/2 -- Mookie Wilson called it "the most exciting game of my life," and it's still pretty electric Honorably mentioned: 037: 1997 -- Everett! Huskey! BAM! BAM! 038: 2004 -- Piazza takes a W away from Clemens, the creep 039: 1986 -- Memo to Niedenfuer: Don't hit Ray Knight because you can't get out George Foster
  3. None of the above.
  4. Still raining on the Mets, this thread still three-quarters unanswered: First Met to play his first Mets game in black uniform top? First Met to record RBI in black uniform top? First Met to make a putout in black uniform top?
  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I'd love it if he said it right HERE! Wouldn't it be a panic to have Keith in the pool? If a Met joined CPF and reached his own status, I assume the software would melt down.
  6. Laid down a helluva sacrifice bunt last night.
  7. The most rewarding flavor in this man's world...
  8. Deriving joy from another team's misery: Posadenfreude.
  9. A little recollection, here.
  10. A staple of the American League Leaders cards of my youth. Synonymous with home runs. And one of the sweetest HOF speeches ever. My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, Youre tearing up the grass. Were not raising grass, Dad would reply. Were raising boys. And, of course, the man made for a great beverage.
  11. David not yet officially DL'd -- but based on his usage Monday night, it's Wright accompli. Perhaps Niese can fill in at short. Only guy on that bench in whom I have faith right now.
  12. Pelfrey 3.5 Niese 2.0 Turner 1.5 Beltran 0.5 Reyes 0.5 Rodriguez 0.5 O'Connor 0.5 Isringhausen 0.5 Harris 0.5
  13. Hu and Iggy to Buffalo. Wright to DL. Beato back. Tejada up. Evans coming.
  14. Came up during one of the Snighcasts.

If it's Wright's third inning tag-out of Carlos Lee in the top of the third on April 19th, then there was no collision, and Lee never landed on Wright. Wright dove at a sliding Lee from behind and tagged him before Lee tagged third. But on the dive, you could clearly see Wright's head snap and, without hitting the dirt, bounce up and down rather violently two or three times. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN201104190.shtml I'm waiting to see the Zapruder film.

  19. Good thing this isn't happening with the Subway Series just up the tracks. Oh fudge.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: I'll give Terry one day to reconsider playing Murphy at third. Terry has been flexible as needed, so I wouldn't be surprised. (Terry's flexibility = previous managers' indecisiveness.)
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Maybe they can activate Wayne Garrett. For the booth? Better than Wayne Hagin.
  22. Joel Sherman says Wright's back is aching from carrying this sad franchise all by himself. Jon Heyman says a real captain like Jeter wouldn't have allowed this to happen. Ian O'Connor indicates this lets Posada off the hook.
  23. Terry had said he's not likely to use Murphy at third since he hasn't played there in the majors (didn't stop him from putting him at second). Willie tonight because of numbers against Johnson. Otherwise, he'll make it up as he goes along.
  24. DW caught himself saying "they're" as in "they're gonna have to go out there" against Fish and changed it to "we". "What you mean, 'we,' Kimo Sabe?" added Jose Reyes.
