  2. Normally cautious sort I know calculated magic number to clinch division, scolded himself for even doing the math. But it's 52.

  8. Tweets from the beats indicate Juan Uribe's giving a pretty good needle to David Wright for bolting the team to move on to his PSL rehab assignment. Damn, I thought, that's just what this team and this Captain have been dying for since, I don't know, Cliff Floyd made young David tote his luggage around: a veteran who plays a good game and talks a good game and loosens up a good player. As with everything dating back to tossing Syndergaard's lunch in the trash, it will make great backstory if the Mets win something this year...and not matter much if they don't. But given the dizzying heights of first place, it reads really well.
  9. Wears 44. Tougher on lefties than Mayberry.
  10. Giddy, but like on seven-second delay as if it's taking me a few extra beats to comprehend what's been happening since last week. My supergiddiness was in April, which was in real time. Being beaten back a bit by the circumstances that ensued once the streaking was over has made me a touch wary of so much happiness all at once. But I'm getting there. Boy, am I getting there.

  20. Trying to decide if Mets are sharpening their skills even more during these unnatural seven Sunday hours of waiting or are Nationals remembering how to play ball...or becoming beside themselves with impatience and thus getting rattled ahead of the 8:08 PM start. Sunday Night Baseball -- we should know when it's over whether it's worth a damn.
  21. There've been good games, fun games, entertaining games, milestone games, memorable games before. But there have never been big games until now.

  24. A friendly reminder from the folks at Schaefer Beer that there's no better way to commemorate the closest thing the Mets have played to a crucial game in years than by voting for its heroes in the Schaefer POTG contest. Threads for this great game and all recent Mets games are open up and down your favorite local messaging board. And be sure to have plenty of ice cold Schaefer on hand for when the pennant races really heat up.
