  1. There have been 22 V-Mets, but only two have really ridden the V for all it's Vorth, shorthandwise. Bobby V, as we'Ve seen aboVe, and this pie-loVin' fella who went by JV1:

  8. Winning streak ahead. Next stop Philly. Thor vs. Eickhoff. Let's Go Mets!
  9. Information on Amazin' Again's first Long Island promotional appearance here. Also here: I'll be reading, discussing, signing, perhaps drinking at the lovely Turn of the Corkscrew, purveyor of books and wine, in beautiful Rockville Centre, ancestral home of at least one CPFer and a George Stone's throw from the current home of another (me). It's 7 PM, Monday night, May 16, 110 N. Park Avenue, convenient to the LIRR, Sunrise Highway and not too far south of the Southern State. Did I mention they traffic in wine and (as the proprietor emphasized) craft beer? The Mets are off that night, but the Mets have been off most of 2016. Either way, a good excuse to imbibe if that's your thing. And for all who have asked (which, admittedly, is nobody here, but it does come up from time to time in other places), personally inscribed signed copies of the book can be wrangled here. The eBay business is my sister's, I'm just along for the content.
  10. Rubber game: be sure to use protection against losing it. Matz vs. Kluber. The latter's real good. The former might be too, but wasn't in his last outing.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Nice Terry has got to let Fiery Terry out of the office. The manager issued his first "stinkin'" of the year last night, so he's getting a little fired up, perhaps.

  13. I'd like to hear more about where Tom Koehler went to college. It never comes up anywhere.
  14. Kind of nice not seeing Tom Koehler this series.
  15. Throwbacks are awesome in concept, feel more like a tribute to 1991 than 1986, though. Unis need to be skin-tight.
  16. Met No. 1,011: Jim Henderson, debut April 5, 2016. Met No. 1,012: Antonio Bastardo, debut April 8, 2016.
  17. Chris Chambliss, all is not forgiven, but I so fucking hate the Royals that I'm genuinely curious who I'll root for when they play the MFYs.
  18. We left off at 1,007 and Tim Stauffer (sorry, Sittin' Matt Reynolds). Five brand spankin' new Mets have been tabbed for the Opening Day roster, including two -- Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera -- projected to be in the lineup. By my bookkeeping, whoever is actively involved first Sunday night as a batter or fielder gets to be No. 1,008. Walker (likely batting fifth) is up in the top of the first, moot point. Mets don't get that far in top of first and Harvey throws a pitch that goes to Cabrera before one that goes to Walker, then it's the shortstop who is listed first. Or perhaps De Aza leads off and skews everything.
  19. Even more stuff than was originally reported.

  21. I'm, what, the fourth 'Pooler to predict... 94-68 National League East champs. World Series winners. Good company to be in if we're all on the nose.
  22. I'll take the first two Nationals series in May.
  23. Chad Ochoseis wrote: He'll knock 'em dead with his variety show featuring topical comedy and audience participation. After he's released from the 51s, he'll be opening for Penn & Teller at the Rio. Wednesdays at 7, Fridays and Saturdays at 8. My parents saw Buddy Carlyle and his old partner Dana Eveland in the '70s. They seemed to like the act.
  24. TransMonk wrote: I got down to reading this a little later than I thought I would...but I finished it in one sitting yesterday afternoon. Great work, Greg! I'm sure I'll be coming back to this book to recall the 2015 season again and again. Thanks Monk. And thanks Mole for a lovely review on Amazon. And I was so happy to see the Fairy, D-Dad, Kase and JCL at Foley's yesterday. Appreciate the support always.
