  1. Reyes will probably come cheaper and with more versatility, though it's hard to picture him not deteriorating further from age. I admire the heck out of Cabrera for continuing to stand upright, but if he's here, he's demonstrated the capacity to evince unhappiness without a role he can buy into. I don't want to see Asdrubal starting at third next year, and if he's here, I picture the Mets settling for just that. Depending on how much stock they put in Cecchini (shame they don't have a slew of games to try him out during right now...oh wait), I can see Jose at second, continuing to shepherd Amed and using what's left of his legs and such. I'd lean a little to Jose relishing being a Met versus Asdrubal ultimately being a journeyman. I'm glad his journey took him through here in 2016, but I don't know if he's the right man at the right time, particularly at the Wright spot. To be fair, I'm not particularly attached to most of the roster at present.
  2. The Cabrera buyout essentially makes him a $6.5 million player. He's getting $2 million no matter what.
  3. If you've got the time, Warner Wolf has a lovely chat with Rusty Staub. http://710wor.iheart.com/featured/the-wor-sports-zone-with-pete-mccarthy/content/2017-09-11-rusty-staub-with-warner-wolf/
  4. Darryl gave a friendly interview the night before to Warner Wolf, filling in on WOR. http://710wor.iheart.com/featured/the-wor-sports-zone-with-pete-mccarthy/content/2017-09-11-darryl-strawberry-with-warner-wolf/ Maybe if he'd been asked, he would have ripped the Mets there, too, but he was serious about addiction and otherwise affable about baseball. His answer regarding the Dar-ryl! taunting, that he'd hit a couple of long home runs and his detractors would sit down and be quiet, reminded me how much I loved him in his prime. Darryl will never win the most consistent answer guy award. I've heard and read him say how he never should have left, how he'll always be a Met...I wish him peace.

Gimme a hundred on the Metropolitans.” —The Deuce pilot, 9/10/2017, James Franco as Frankie, laying action in Times Square, 1971 (Tug didn't start a game at Cincinnati in 1971, but that doesn't seem to be what the new HBO series is about.) It seems, uh, very much about Tugs. Oh snap.

  7. I've gotta believe that if you were a fan of a team that didn't play the Mets in 2017 and these names were thrown in front of you, you might not get the ballclub on the first try.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The trade has been officially logged in the Ultimate Mets Database. Some day, Eric Hanhold will be a household name. At least, in his household. The Hanhold household? I wonder what Paul Householder is up to.
  9. The young man is going to wear No. 77, further making a mockery of protocol.
  10. Hey, another Met! James Wagner of NYT reporting Mets are calling up Tomas Nido, your Rumble Pony catching prospect. About time they have a backup backup backstop in September.
  11. They do a handful of 4 PM Saturday starts in the course of the season. This would be a good time to do one of them. 1 PM would be better, but let's not go crazy here with taking fan comfort into account.
  12. If this dude doesn't enter to the Beatles or at least Hootie & The Blowfish, he doesn't deserve to pitch.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I also still have to add the Neil Walker trade to the Brewers (once known as the Seattle Pilots) but I'm waiting for the players to be named later. Eric Hanhold's his name, RH relieving is his game.
  14. The Mets have received righty reliever Eric Hanhold from the Brewers as the player not named Neil Walker to be named later in the Neil Walker trade. High-A in 2017, sixth-round draft pick in 2015, 23 years old at present, anything else I'd be cribbing or faking knowing.
  15. Alex Anthony and scoreboard went with Phil Evans upon his debut. Press notes have switched to Phil. Looks like the birthday boy prefers to face MLB pitching without his lip.
  16. Aoki to LF, Taijeron to RF, @Mets have amended.

  18. UPS doesn't deliver on Sundays, nor do FedEx or the United States Postal Service, yet the Mets have their asses handed to them weekly on this day. Enough. Stop signing for this particular package, do not accept delivery. Brooms are another matter. Those you should take, along with this series in full. Wrest a sweep from Cincinnati. DeGrom, who used to be clockwork-good on afternoons in general and in daylight at Citi Field in particular, attempts to whisk up his mojo versus former Sterling Cooper art director Sal Romano. Limit your exposure to losing, Mets. C'mon. We have so little left to look forward to. Give us this.
  19. If I read the press release correctly, they're only bothering with Field Level seats.
  20. Next on Flex and the Citi: As the Mets attempt to go "four" it, Samantha is determined to get it on, Charlotte lets her insecurities get the best of her, Miranda tries to take a little time for herself away from the office, and Carrie discovers that Chris is miffed because with Robert back in town, Terry has chosen to spend Saturday night with Rafael. What's worse, Chris will be left alone for the weekend because Terry is going with Jake on Sunday. Meanwhile, across the hall, Homer will try not to give up too many homers, but not if Jose and his crowd have anything to say about it. It's not TV. It's SNY on PIX.
  21. 1,042. Phillip Evans, announced at Citi Field as Phil Evans. "Call me anything you like," Evans said. "You can even call me up late to the Mets."
  22. Apparently MFYS III was already booked for a human sacrifice or some such event, thus the need to find a real ballpark.
  23. Swelling reportedly down on Rosario's finger, still day to day...as are we all.
  24. Gonna need a heavy-duty cleaning afterward.
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: The young man (his 25th birthday is Sunday) will wear No. 72 out of a lifelong allegiance to Carlos Torres's final months as a Met. As was predicted in Edge of Seventeen! viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25322 Kreskinish!
