  1. Baseball teams have been getting through nine innings forever but Boone can't hack the occasional blowout in the wrong direction? Wanker.
  2. The best defense is a spit ton of runs scored.
  3. The search for a substitute left fielder led me to notice UMDB doesn't have Jose Reyes's two OF appearances listed, one in center (May 13, 2017), one in left, (August 29, 2017).
  4. Estes Kefauver was of course named for Shawn Estes, who once homered off Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as the Rocket Man, or Elton John, today most famous for the elbow surgery that bears his name. That's according to Gary Apple.
  5. Yost thinking about replacing Sparkman with Kefauver.
  6. Panik. Triple. All the verbs.
  7. Amed Rosario – SS Joe Panik – 2B Pete Alonso – 1B Michael Conforto – RF Wilson Ramos - DH (yeech) Todd Frazier – 3B Juan Lagares – CF Aaron Altherr – LF Tomás Nido – C Zack Wheeler - RHP
  8. This is also not the IGT, but here's Sunday's lineup should anyone wish to mull it. Davis still sits to protect his calf and Ramos plays the bullshit AL non-position. Amed Rosario – SS Joe Panik – 2B Pete Alonso – 1B Michael Conforto – RF Wilson Ramos - DH Todd Frazier – 3B Juan Lagares – CF Aaron Altherr – LF Tomás Nido – C Zack Wheeler - RHP
  9. Lagares Altherr Panik The LAP Attack will be featured on the cover of next week's Sporting News.
  10. Gsellman and his sore triceps to the IL. Lockett, who conveniently happens to be in KC, to the active roster.
  11. A familiar, deserving crew of winners here. Dom looks splendid in '75, back when, according to Phil Mushnick, players on "what we were comfortable calling the disabled list without fear of offending the PC police" didn't need "pimped-out knee scooters of the sort favored by gangsta rappers" to celebrate game-winning victories that "didn't carry the absurd 'walk-off' label" achieved "at an hour too late to be savored by anybody but workers on the third shift who might have accidentally tuned their radios away from the Milkman's Matinee as they fought sleep amidst the onrushing dawn." Great job, Grimm!
  12. Walker Lockett is loitering on the taxi squad in case Robert Gsellman requires a ride to the IL.
  13. Amed Rosario – DH...HUH? Joe Panik – 2B Pete Alonso – 1B Michael Conforto – RF Wilson Ramos - C Todd Frazier – 3B Luis Guillorme - SS Juan Lagares – CF Aaron Altherr – LF Jacob deGrom, whose bat will be missed, pitches and will aim to miss bats. Davis and his calf sit, just like at the Missouri State Fair.
  14. Watch out Felton, Sewald's back in town!
  15. Mets have sent down Gagnon and recalled Sewald because, apparently, they don't recall how Sewald pitches. Tim Peterson DFA'd. Reached for comment, Peterson admitted he's considering a new profession, "because once somebody says they'd rather have Paul Sewald instead of you, fuck."
  16. Five years ago, Jacob deGrom caught and passed the speedy Billy Hamilton for NL Rookie of the Year honors. Perhaps anticipating the trauma defending NL Cy Young winner deGrom's Saturday night appearance on the Kauffman Stadium mound would cause the flamed-out speedster, the Royals have DFA'd the former Reds phenom.
  17. As did your keyboard.
  18. Adeiny's an enemy now, joining Atlanta to screw us over a million ways, or one for every buck the Mets wriggled out of owing him. We talked about him as this season's dark horse when he was filling in admirably for Cano. Sadly he faded before the stretch run. Terrific glove. Surprising pop. Good luck, except for what you do in a Braves uniform.
  19. Los Bravos have reportedly grabbed Adeiny Hechavarria.
  20. I realize it's a typo, but I really like renaming the St. Louis club the “Cadinals,” for they are truly Cads.
  21. Recent article on just this very topic... https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/the-single-season-home-run-leader-for-each-mlb-team-soler-alonso-and-others-on-pace-to-become-new-record-holders/https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/the-single-season-home-run-leader-for-each-mlb-team-soler-alonso-and-others-on-pace-to-become-new-record-holders/
  22. Zvon is alive and well on social media. Dick Grayson says Z was delighted to learn SNY helped itself to a few of his Fantazy card images for a segment on the 1969 NLCS the other night. I'm guessing they were plucked by an intern who didn't realize “BOB MURPHY DOES INTERVIEWS” might not have been issued by Topps, but it was exciting to see. PS: Simpsons reference above.
  23. You know, “I Give Up Day 2019” turned into a Batman card thread so gradually, I didn't even notice.
  24. Least comfortable 7-0 lead...EVER.
