  1. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=74418 time=1628905806 user_id=68] =G-Fafif post_id=74413 time=1628905020 user_id=55] I didn't think of Orosco. I wondered for a sec about Teddy Martinez, but Heep (as with Grote) I remembered for sure.
  2. Late entrant in the general election?
  3. =bmfc1 post_id=74410 time=1628904678 user_id=73] LAD scored a run because our C could not throw the ball back to the P/the P could not catch a ball thrown to him by the C. Either way, that's pathetic.

  5. The death of Groth whittles the roster of living St. Louis Browns to four.
  6. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=74407 time=1628903756 user_id=68] Name the two players that appeared in the WS for both the Mets and Dodgers.
  7. Former Post sports columnist Jay Greenberg, 71, remembered here by colleague Mike Vaccaro. He came in with both feet kicking the door down, you bet he did. When you read the first column Jay Greenberg wrote for the Post, Feb. 22, 1994, it's not only 100-percent Jay's voice in the words, you can actually hear Jay's voice, too, the gravelly lilt of his Pennsylvania upbringing still evident, the joy ever-crackling behind an impish smile. “I woke up in the city that never sleeps,” he wrote, by way of introduction, “and I couldn't get back to sleep. On the street below, taxis blared like Dallas Green. In the hallway, doors were slamming, like Ray Handley applying for head-coaching jobs …” https://nypost.com/2021/08/13/rip-jay-greenberg-so-much-more-than-a-great-post-columnist/https://nypost.com/2021/08/13/rip-jay-greenberg-so-much-more-than-a-great-post-columnist/

  9. Rooting for a Mets' run differential of +1 or better tonight and in all games going forward.
  10. Remarkable setting. Spectacular (not to mention desired) conclusion. Imperfect but ultimately moving movie served as inspiration for baseball to do something out of the ordinary that came off as extraordinary. Tim Anderson was transcendent. It was the most brilliant baseball ending of the day, and that's taking into account Pete Alonso's exploits hours earlier. Here's to a little joy on a Thursday night.
  11. MFYs lose, so yes, it is heaven.
  12. The A's played home games in Nevada (Las Vegas) early one season while the Coliseum was undergoing some renovations.
  13. 1,149. Trevor Williams
  14. Trevor Williams is today's 27th man and Game Two starter. Since yesterday's regularly scheduled night game never got underway, its 27th man, Geoff Hartlieb, seems to have never been fully activated. You can always try to unplug him and plug him back in to see if he still works.
  15. Metsies sign Josh Reddick to minor league deal. https://www.mlb.com/news/josh-reddick-deal-with-metshttps://www.mlb.com/news/josh-reddick-deal-with-mets
  16. Corbin Burnes has joined Aaron Nola in tying but not surpassing Tom Seaver's record of 10 consecutive strikeouts (against the Cubs).
  17. Nimmo CF McNeil 2B Alonso 1B D. Smith LF Conforto RF J.D. Davis 3B Villar SS Nido C Stroman RHP (7-11, 2.83)
  18. 1,148. Javier Baez (July 31)
  19. Geoff Hartlieb is thrilled there's suddenly a call for a 27th man (night game only).
  20. The lead actors from Nickelodeon's “The Adventures of Pete & Pete,” Michael Madonna and Danny Tamberelli, reflect on their Mets fandom for The Ringer. Actually, I had a question about that for you, Michael, because we were talking about sports for a while before we started: In that episode, you reach a point when you no longer want to win on the strength of your brother's mean-spirited insults and your coach's magic frozen orange drink. Are you, in your actual life, an Unwritten Rules of Baseball guy, the kind who wants to win The Right Way? Maronna: I know that that's the character that I played, and I'm going to try and raise my son like that character. Tamberelli: He's the kind of guy that I know would never take a called third strike looking to potentially go to the World Series. Maronna: No, I'm no Carlos Beltrán. But then again, I also did not have to quit just after being announced as Mets manager due to a horrible scandal. Tamberelli: Well, that's because you're not a cheater, buddy. Bring it all full circle. I don't appreciate the heartbreaking Mets stuff. Maronna: Oh, bro, he's one of us. Tamberelli: I was at that game. I was at that game. I walked underneath the train for like 30 fucking blocks in the rain just like, “What just happened?” I called my father and he was like, “Yeah, well, that's what it means to be a Mets fan.” I'm like, “Thanks, Dad.” Maronna: He's like, “I've had a lot more years of this than you.” Tamberelli: “I only got turned on in '69!” Fuck you, Dad. https://www.theringer.com/tv/2021/8/11/22618601/the-adventures-of-pete-and-pete-interview-michael-maronna-danny-tamberellihttps://www.theringer.com/tv/2021/8/11/22618601/the-adventures-of-pete-and-pete-interview-michael-maronna-danny-tamberelli
  21. In covered Excelsior seats with good friends whom we http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2020/08/13/what-counts/missed seeing last year for our annual Tuesday night in August game, the rain delay was almost a bonus. Almost. Somehow TPTB waited for our major 9:30-ish concessions purchase (‘cause, you know, we're gonna be here quite a while once they take the tarp off and continue the game) to call the fucker. That and the rain to stop. Bone dry on Mets Plaza. Ah, Mets. We'll be back for more of this next August, too.
  22. What a spectacular month for 1970 Topps. Jose Peraza turns in a strong 2nd place bench showing, but once he got hurt, it was inevitable his chances would be Druryfied. Good stuff, BG!
