  1. thanks for the update...i've gotta give that a big ::yawwwwn:: after the buildup Carroll gave it.
  2. Edgy DC wrote: I also think we are swimming in more or less solid relievers and don't know it. i agree, i think we lack a "closer" (a guy we can honestly put in the top 20-25 relievers in basball) but we have alot of good guys, now if only those guys would be given playing time instead of sent to Norfok to work on a changeup...
  3. i still think he's a DH only at this point and if we signed him i doubt he'd appear in 100 games.
  4. ] Omar: So Furball, how is your family? Furcal: Just fine thanks. I sure miss them though. I've felt like I was 15 million miles away from them for the past three years. Omar: I'm sure it's gotta be tough. I agree with everything you've said. Well, thanks from coming in, and we'll see you on the eleventh. kinda like how they do it in the bronx.... George (to Rudy): we can offer that guy 8mil Rudy (to FA pitcher): i think the yankees can offer you 8mil FA pitcher (to Rudy): i was hoping the yankees could offer 9 mil Rudy (to George):...... ....
  5. maybe Depodesta and Epstein can switch jobs now?
  6. oh and the Mets declined Graves' insane $5mil option, i think i'd have hunted down minaya if they exercized that. I'd bring him back for AAA if he was interested, if he looked good enough down there i'd call him up when the need arose...if he's not ok with that idea he can look elsewhere theres no way he's worth a major league deal right now.
  7. good, good, and good. Whether we have room for Traschel right now shouldn't matter, we can make a trade later if we feel the need to have less good pitching. If the plan was to go forward with Jacobs at 1B i'd want to keep Mientkiewicz around as his backup, but if we're going after a big 1B bat theres no room or place for him on this team. I was obviously a member of the "i don't like looper" contingent. regardless of how you felt about him we all knew he wouldn't be back. Hopefully this is a sign that Ryan/Wagner is on the way.
  8. Edgy DC wrote: Well, Carroll answers an explicit yes when asked if it's a name people will care about. i know, i just have a feeling that his definition of a guy "people will care about" is not the same as mine.
  9. of the guys on that lost i'd take Konerko, though depending on what you think of Jacobs the DIFFERENCE between konerko and jacobs may not be as wide as the gap between our current 2Bmen and Soriano.
  10. teams have "hated each other" and won before. the only people i can blame for bad "clubhouse chemistry" are the players themselves, or maybe you can say its the manager's job to "keep the clubhouse together." either way Depodesta wasn't there long enough to choose the players or the manager in that clubhouse so any chemistry problems arent his fault.
  11. jd drew is an injury risk fine, but milton bradley and eric gagne getting hurt like that isn't something you shoulf forsee, they're still stuck with bad contracts from the old GM, and Depodesta should be commended for not trying to hard to re-sign Adrian Beltre who had a career year in 2004 and got too much money from Seattle, it is often hard to walk away from guys like that but the dodgers did the right thing. Minaya has done well so far (imo) so i'm not advocating we get rid of him, but i hope Depodesta is given another shot again somewhere.
  12. ] MATSUI SUCKS!!!! Shit, sorry. Wrong thread. I'm just on autopilot here. just make it your sig quote, it saved me from having to repeat it  Depodesta really was given the short end of the stick here though, a GM needs to be given AT LEAST 4 years in my opinion unless he does something really stupid, and Depodesta didn't do anything stupid, all his bad contracts were the previous regime's leftovers.
  13. my feeling is that its not really a name that anyone but a fan of the team will care about, its the 4th or 5th outfielder for one of these teams. i dont think 1 guy on a championship team usingroids makes me want to take away the trophy or anything, but it would certainly be a black mark on them and something the fans of that long suffering team don't deserve.
  14. maybe to these long island folks they all look alike :? edit- a google search for him and cameron found me no pictures.
  15. Aurilia was good once, I'm not sure what he has left or how he plays at 2B. In 2005 he did this: .282/.338./.444 (in cincy's bandbox) for an OPS+ of 99 (matching his career number of 102 nicely.) He is a natural SS, but played 68 games at 2B last year, does anyone know if he's good there? Can he replicate the .282./338./.444? I's say that is VERY doubtful since he is 34 years old, those were his best numbers in 5 years, and Shea is almost the opposite of Great American Ballpark. If you reduce those numbers to something more like .275/.325/.420 for Shea Stadium and other factors i'd say that a group of Anderson Hernandez, Jeff Keppinger, Kaz Matsui, Marlon Anderson, Chris Woodward, etc. would put up equivalent numbers. IMO Aurilia is nothing we don't already have. Durham definetaly intrigues me more, but trade rumors and fre agents are two entirely different things and i can't get my hopes up on aquiring him just yet.
  16. ]See that's the problem. Everyone wants a second baseman like this, speak for yourself. i'll place power well above speed and "hitting for average" doesn't mean much when your OBP stinks and you have no power.
  17. i just found my "trade benitez" shirt, now if only i could find "Phire Phillips" and "Slow Mo"....
  18. well, nobody is ever literally nothing. when i call someone "nothing" you can translate that to "better players are readily available and possibly already within the organization." thus making my victim worth next to nothing to his team. that is the context in which i'm calling matsui "nothing." if you want to put forth some stats showing that none of the internal (or easily available external) options are better players i'm all ears
  19. in Furcal's 6 year major league career he has had an OPS+ over 100 only once. now maybe you'll take that out of a gold-glove caliber Shortstop, but from a guy learning a new position at 2B? i'd pass.
  20. Edgy, YOU picked one stat (the 32 doubles) and i said that even with them his SLG% wasnt so good. besides which, that slg% wasn't even this year! this year he was down in the land of rey ordonez.
  21. ]He hit 32 doubles in 2004 he still had a disgusting .396 slg%
  22. ]And just maybe the teams each being 2nd in team ERA had something to do with the winning thing? bingo!
  23. so does half the yankee bench/bullpen (yeah i'm exaggerating.) how about taking advantage of playing in new york and not keeping a player at a position just because he's making big dollars?
  24. his obp has been .331 and .300, his slg .396 and .352, i'll revise my statement to say he hasn't shown anything good at the plate. i don't want to have a fielding argument at this point, i'll just say that if you assume he is an average defensive player at 2b (not that i assume that, just that i dont want to argue it) that wouldn't justify keeping him in the lineup.
  25. Kaz has shown nothing in the majors but i still hate to completely dismiss him after looking at his japan numbers. i'd be very upset if he were plan A next year with a guy like cairo as plan B. i'd be ok with matsui as plan B at 2B, SS, and 3B if he can play there. i guess i'm ok with him as part of a platoon until he plays himself out of the job or someone plays their way into it.
